  • Interested in learning how to dance with fire fans? Visit firelilydance.com/ and learn with me in the FireLily Dance online studio! My all levels FIRE FAN DANCE COURSE is out now, join the #firelilyfamily and find your flow😍🔥🌺
    This beginner fire fan tutorial covers some dance basics that I like to use. It also covers the fundamentals of our wheel plane, wall plane, floor plane, as well as our static and regular grip.
    I cover:
    ★ Static Regular Grip
    ★ Planes
    And three moves I consider to be Dance Basics:
    ★ "Flow arms"
    ★ "Top cross and fold"
    ★ "Switches"
    When I first started spinning, I found these really helpful in getting comfortable with my fans and discovering my own freedom of movement/musicality. Hopefully they can do the same for you!
    And here are some useful tutorials I referred to when learning myself:
    ★ Tommy Danger "The Fox Box Episode 1 "Grips & Naming""
    ( • Fire Fan Tutorial Th... )
    ★ Mike Doodle "Getting to know your fans"
    ( • Getting to Know Your F... )
    If you have any comments or tutorial suggestions etc etc, don't hesitate to ask :) And if you enjoy, don't forget to like and subscribe!

    Please do another tutorial for beginners. You're the only tutorial that is clearly spoken.
    I am getting so frustrated with my fans hahaha I can't seem to get any of the cool fancy spins down whatsoever lol. I have the basics but the actual tricks I'm clueless about. I subscribed so I'll definitely be watching

      Oh, I'm so glad to hear it! That you like my tutorial that is, not that you're getting frustrated with your fans! I'm very close to releasing my next TWO, so definitely stay tuned :D

    I didn't realize fan flow was a thing. I was going to starting hooping, but they're not very portable. I like this option, and they're so aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for the instructional videos!

    I really do enjoy your tutorials. They're super clear and easy to follow. As another person mentioned in the comments, it'd be REALLY lovely to have choreography "homework" with step by step guiding done by you. I'm defintiely a follower of channel. keep it up!

    For a video suggestion: I'd love to see a tutorial of a choreo suggestion using / combining the simple beginner moves you already showed including a bit of bodymoves that fit with them just to get a better understanding of transfering from one trick to another! I realised to have learned a couple of moves like for example a two beat weave but then struggle to get out of that trick and transfer i to another one..

    • @JessySpin
      @JessySpin  7 років тому +1

      Awesome, thank you for the suggestion! I have taken it on board :) I found the '"switches" move to be a good one for when I get stuck (e.g. one of my palms is facing the wrong way)...
      A good general approach is to think about where your currently position is, and where you need to be for the next move. Can you slide your fan to get there? Fold it? Spin? Even if it feels clunky, see if you can do it with purpose and (bonus points) musicality. Often I find this can make it look smooth/nice, even when the move isn't particularly fancy! To anyone else it just looks like it's part of your flow (which it is!) :)

    Hi! Thanks so much for this tutorial! Do you know where I can get beginner fans to practice with?

    • @JessySpin
      @JessySpin  7 років тому +1

      My pleasure! I wouldn't say there are exactly beginner fans - in terms or use, it's actually easiest to learn with the same fans you would use when you become advanced. The difference though is price, so as a beginner you might opt for a less expensive pair (to see whether you even like it or not!).
      I put this tutorial together on buying your first fire fans which has some useful info :) There are also some brands linked in the description which you can check out, and see what you like the look of!

    Hi! I just got some white laser cut fans that are non-fire. Could you do a demonstration for this type and one whole flow example? Also- if your fans were really on fire, your sleeves are dangerously long and that might not be a strong teaching recommendation, they could go up in flame! yikes. Thanks for doing this tutorial!

    • @JessySpin
      @JessySpin  3 роки тому

      Yes, this is definitely not an outfit I would wear spinning fire!! I have a general guide to Fire Safety in the FireLily Dance online studio - you might like to check it out! :)
      firelilydance.com/resources/
      There are also now lots of classes on FireLily, most of which have flows where we dance to songs and you can see how you connect moves :) Patterns will be the same for practice fans or for fire fans, but the grip may vary depending what type you have!
      Hope that hleps! :) X

    Hey Jess where's some good places to buy fans from for beginners ? On the not to costly side (also in my case within Aus ) I do poi spinning and muck around with staff stuff and hula hoop etc but haven't tried fans yet

    • @JessySpin
      @JessySpin  7 років тому

      Awesome! I first started with poi too :) This is a tutorial I put together on buying your first fire fans, you'll find some different brands listed in the description:
      ua-cam.com/video/CX1B5X5wfvI/v-deo.html
      It's hard to say which of the less expensive options is best, as I haven't tried them, but I'd probably go for some 'Spider Fans' or 'Medium Lotus Fans' from Home of Poi. You could also keep any eye out on the Aus Facebook group 'Circus Garage Sale' for some second hand ones too :)
      Just keep in mind which grip you might prefer (small ring VS big ring), that smaller is better (less weight means less tired arms means more spinning!), and that interesting shapes are pretty but often harder to spin because they are not well balanced.
      Good luck! :D Welcome to the fan army :D XX

    Also, could you address the audience more inclusively? Guys is a bit non-inclusive, out-dated and a little offensive :/
