Your tutorials have literally been an absolute game changer for my fan flow in just a few days. Thank you for all of this, I finally have something to work with and don't feel lost anymore!
Thank you for all your tutorials! They are the only ones I have been able to follow, you are a great teacher. I feel so much more confident with my new fans, I never wanna put them down❤ thanks for sharing the joy!
Aww thank you so much!! So glad you have found them helpful :D And thanks re mucha dress! It's reversible too with a different painting of his on the other side hehe
You’re not even watching me but the only way I can describe your tutorials is... patient. I feel like you’re a patient teacher without even witnessing your students. Thank you! ♥️
Wow! Thanks! Just got a set of fans and really appreciate the content you shared. It gives me a lot to practice. I love your dress btw. I used to have a favorite shirt with that same image.
These videos are really great. I fell in love with fans this past year and knowing nothing about them I just decided to go for it. I got my fans for christmas and I've been learning a lot on my own but mostly just watching performances and trying to make it work. Having things broken down and explained so clearly is making things click way easier! Thank you for making these tutorials and your performance videos are stunning I'm definitely a fan
Awww yay, I'm so glad to hear it!! Excited for you starting your flow journey, welcome to the #FireLilyFamily!! I'm so happy that you have enjoyed my tutorials and performance videos
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m just getting into flow arts and been really drawn to fans and this explained things so detailed and so nicely! Even I can follow along w it by watching it several times and practicing it 💕 Thank you!
Awesome, I'm so glad to hear it!! I also have more classes in the FireLily Dance studio (firelilydance.com), including free choreographies... new one coming very soon! Since making my UA-cam videos, I've refined my 'follow along format' for teaching too - so if you enjoy my YT lessons, you might enjoy the online studio too! :) And it's my pleasure! :D
You have the best fan tutorials ever! The only person who's been able to teach me anything 😅 do you ever use Russian grip fans? Those are the one's I have and they're a bit harder to spin it seems than yours might be, based on the grips
Aw yay, i'm so glad!!! More to come, though I've been a bit slow recently! I have some russian grips but they are not my preferred grip. They are no necessarily harder - it is just a difference style and is almost like learning a new prop despite a lot of cross over tech! It may also be personal preference to find one easier than the other :)
Hey so my brains are exploding a little bit but I mean that in the best way possible. I’m not sure I ever plan on actual fire fans but I have practice fans and I really appreciate these videos and this is such a challenge and I look forward to continuing this work. Thank you 🙏🏻☮️🕊
I really enjoy your videos. I've dabbled a little bit in fire spinning but I was basically handed some fire fans and told to "do what comes natural". Well, needless to say I didn't know a single move to do with the fans. I was a little disappointed that I didn't learn anything and felt embarrassed that I just waved them around. They are hard to hold if you aren't used to it! I like all the movements you explain and how you can make them look fancier with a subtle turn or extension but do all these moves work with fire fans because it seems at times you are very close to your body and clothing. Are there moves you would not recommend doing with fires lit?
Your videos are very well done! Thank you for sharing. I was wondering where you got your fans. They look very solid and I like how the ring is set up. Mine is odd and I have a 1 finger ring on top of a medium size ring and it is very hard to spin with out if falling off my finger!
I really appreciate all your tutorials! Fan tech is so different from poi and other props. I wonder about caps though. I always thought a cap was a petal vs an extension because the extension seems to encapsulate the petal. How do you define "cap"?
Hi Jesse! I have been having a great time learning from your videos! I have lotus style fans with five points. They are smaller but I do feel like many of the moves I see are difficult with style fan. Is this just in my head? Are there moves specifically for this style fan? Thanks!
I am having issues with my fans unevenly spinning while trying a basic buzz saw. My fingers also tend to get very "tangled" in my doodle grips. Any tips you can offer? :) I am working with 1.5 doodle grips.
Thanks for asking your question, and awesome that you have doodle grips! :D I'd first check the grip that you are using - I think for 1.5" having two fingers in the fan ring is best, but you can also try three and see how that feels to hold (even just letting it swing off your fingers to feel the momentum and whether it's comfy). Then I'd practice single spins with whatever grip feels best, being sure to point your fingers and thumb away from your fan, as well as not gripping with the fingers inside your fan ring. So it's kind of like an open-close motion (release and open during the spin, close when recatching). Then can try a couple of spins and see how you go. I'd also try one hand at a time before putting them together! It's tricky to give further advice without seeing what's happening, but that would be my general approach - and don't be discouraged if it's not happening straight away! I call it a 'basic' buzzsaw, but it doesn't mean that it is super easy or anything! I've definitely had/have extended periods of getting tangled/dropping my fans when learning a move. Hope that helps!!
Yes I do! Sometimes I even mist it with water before spinning. I have a general guide to Fire Safety in the FireLily Dance online studio, under resources, with lots of fire safety tips - you might like to check it out! firelilydance.com/resources/
Yes totally :) I have a guide with my fan product recommendations in the FireLily Dance online studio, under resources - you might like to check it out! firelilydance.com/resources/ Flow DNA also sell fire fans on their website now, which I will include in the guide (haven't yet updated it, but i do recommend) :)
My pleasure! And my boots are by the brand Free People, by Jeffrey Campbell :) I think they are out of stock now though but you can check out ebay! xxx
Great tutorial! I had to go and try this out :D can I ask you where you got your fans? Are these fire fans covered with cloth or is it some kind of training fans like with poi? And thanks again for your videos. They are very helpful :)
Anna Löwe thank you, so glad it helped! My fans are Doodle Grips by Forged Creations and they are fire fans with material covers on top of the wicks. I also have a tutorial on how to make your Fire fan covers if you're interested! 💗
Can these techniques be used on Russian grip? You have your finger in a “gun/trigger “ position (not sure how to describe it) but the grip of my fans are a big ring and that hand position seems impossible
Yes they can definitely be used with russian grip! You will have four fingers through the ring though, with your thumb around the outside. It might also be more comfortable to do with more momentum, depending how heavy your fans are :)
Hi, I am new at fan fire art, I am from Bolivia and here is so difficult to find a fire fan. I wanted to know if you can give the measures of your fire fan so i can make one. I'd be very gratefull.
Hi there! Ah, that's frustrating that you can't easily source a set of fans :( My fans are 2" ring Doodle Grips by Forged Creations - I believe they include the dimensions in the description of their etsy store if you wanted to check out their dimensions for ideas
This is so helpful, just got a pair of LED fans and have a month to practice before my state’s regional burn. Thank you!
oh I love these kind of tutorials that explain the whole concept instead of just some random tricks! Very well done :) Thank You!
Your explications are very clear, thank you so much, i felt lost with my fans and thanks to you, I can work it much easier ! 😇
It's very impressive how much effort you put into editing! Nice videos!
Thanks! It definitely takes a lot of time, but I think worth it! :)
