I just found a harmonica in my garage that was my great grandpas. I turned on Tom Petty and this song came on. It was destiny. I’ve never played hermonica but your tutorial is great
You do an excellent job with your tutorials! Many thanks brother!!! 😁
Guitarist here, trying to stretch my skillset and this was straight ti the point and easy to follow.
Much appreciated 🙏
Thank you so much. This is awesome!
So I'm a guitarist and I just got invited to jam with a band. One of the songs we're playing is this one. I couldn't resist, I had to cop a Harmonica. Wow I feel like I have rekindled my love for music with this amazing little device!!!! So excited to learn the ins and outs of it.
Subbed and gonna binge your videos 😂 thanks!
Another song from my learn to to play list!! Thank you much, You're the greatest!!!
Helpful and easy to follow as always. As I've said before, having the harp tabs and music dots is a great help with timing. Many thanks
Thank Tomlin. Massive Tom Petty fan. Just love this song. Now I can play along. I always play along to You Don't Know How It Feels as well.
Thanks Tom. I was trying to play it on a C harmonica, so using G instead in 3rd position was a revelation
Came here for this too lol
excellent harmonica lessons, thank you!
What a good lesson! Now I´ll get going.
Really fantastic lesson! Thanks for breaking this down so brilliantly
Very good,thanks a lot Tomlin.
Thank you Tomlin, love your teachings, !!
In front of the Gustav Klimt artwork! Love it.
Thanks Tomlin, love this song.
Awesome!, thanks a lot.
Great song and great lesson.
Thanks! I started playing a long time ago as a kid. Just started blowing on it and eventually could play some songs. Never had a lesson. I truly appreciate you doing this.
So well done!!!! I got it, and I thank you. :)
Thank you!!! 😊 you made my day!!🎉
Now I'm finding this one. Excellent
Thanks man, very helpful
Man, that was just want I needed!! My buddy and I play this tune and I have been struggling with figuring out the harmonica part (I pretty much fake my way through harmonica :) ) But this is perfect. Thank you for helping me be a more legit harp player!!
Ty great job!
You totally taught me to play this bro... I do guitar and this at the same time. I really appreciate your tutorials. Thank you!
thx sir u r always helpfull to us 👍🏻
Love this - using this tune to practice my bending!
Love the tune tomlin gonna post it to you be my first in the school
Wow! What fun song to play. Much easier then I thought. Could you please do The Wizard by Black Sabbath? It's also in the key of G.
Please do a tutorial for You Don't Know How It Feels by Tom Petty, it's such a great song, anyway love your videos man!!
I'm a beginner, i literally just bought a a 5$ harmonica cause I'd thought it would be easy to learn some songs I know and I love the sound, can someone just explain to me how to bend that 4 draw note
Kinda late responde but... Just check this guy's channel. He has EVERYTHING you need to learn to play, including bending notes of course.
Hard to explain in words but for me and it seems like everybody does their own techniques different but if you make your lips like you're blowing a kiss move your tongue up and down slow as you draw meaning suck in air you always want to suck in air when you're making your bins with your tongue take some practice and it'll just come you'll be jamming good luck 😉
THANK U!
Cool!)
Genius!!!
I feel really lazy. Have dozens of harmonicas given to me, never bother learning. You are a great teacher man! You make this easy. Except for the fact that you have also mastered the tone and technique. Thats where the true MASTER bit comes to play. I have years to practice.. This is why I love wind instruments. Truly a talent brother bravo!
I appreciate that!
@@TomlinHarmonica Not a problem. Musicians stick together and lift one another up. And keep secrets about what happens at gigs.... lol!
I like to add a little bit of the single note to the double stop notes it adds a little bit of emphasis.
I can see TP&KB vid morbid dance when I hear Harmonica tune! Tom&Mary Jane's last dance, 🕺🎸Rip- HeartbreakerTom P🙏
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! Our band just added this song to our setlist. I volunteered to learn the harmonica part. There really was no option, as I am the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist. What is the trick to that bend on 4?
Wow! What a great teaching method. I don't know if it's copied or you developed it but... Well done Sir! 😃
No link to tab and audio...that I can see anyway. Love your lessons.
thank you Tomlin
how do you do the bend at the end?
can you make a ''how to play don't look back by Wesley Dean'' video please
Can you do a lesson of the free willy harmonica song?
Thanks for the helpful video. My band tunes down 1/2 step so I am using an F# harmonica. I am having trouble making the notes sound correct. They sound too high. Any suggestions?
Hi Tomlin
thank you for all your vids.
Can you give me some help please.
Here on UA-cam "Freight Train Boogie" by Doc Watson.
Can you tell me wich tune of harmonica is used in wich position.
I can figure it out. I tried some different and i can manage to play it, but it sounds tonaly totally different compared to the original.
thanks again TL, i think you are watching over my shoulder!! we are doing a Areosmith-Petty show this Aug. your Pink lesson was very helpful back in March (when we started rehearsing) and this one is the right time now! i will say TPH stuff is easier than Steven Tyler's stuff. ;)
and you are right on, TPH plays it a bit "rougher". nice job parsing out the right notes man!
Lol - I am always watching ;-). Be weird if the next tune I do is also one you are working on...
just dawned on me--- i'll send you an email with some samples of the performance where i used your instruction for two different songs!
Thanks so much for this lesson, Tomlin! Question- I’m a beginner, and I can’t get a good sound out of the 4-hole on my G harp. Is it me or do I have a bad harp? I saw the lesson about the 2-hole being a bit challenging but it’s a matter of technique and figure that’s what’s going on.
Man, you play well! I'm a beginner. If you had a way to show when and which direction you're blowing/vice-verca you'd be the Greatest harmonica UA-cam person of all.......in my opinion;)
Good! But why don't use the C harp? It would be the 1st position, AFAIK ?
Tomlin Thank you for sharing these riffs. If a person wanted to improvise in some higher notes, is it possible?
Hi Donna, absolutely - you can improvise up at the high end. Do you have some specific ideas?
Tomlin Leckie I don’t have any ideas, just wondering if it was possible with a g harp.
It is indeed on any harmonica Donna - You will see that I cover working in the high end in the school :-)
I seem to get more a vibrating sound no matter what I do on a single note!
Good lesson but I can't get my Harmonica to sound as clean and smooth as mine
In your intro (and in the record), it's more 'chordy' as opposed to single notes isn't it. Are you just letting the notes at either side in, or just a bit of the left or right etc?
Hi Wez, yes in the original it is played a little bit more "sloppy" by letting a little bit of air in either side.
I have trouble hitting one note ,
With a harmonica.
"matter of opinion"? I would say it's a matter of taste. I would just concentrate on the melody/single notes while adding surrounding notes for effect/feel.
Chewn
Guess I need a new harmonica
I have g harp doesn’t sound near that good
You don’t know.
You are definitely in the wrong key and Tom Petty You are not
