@@AdamCYounis Amazing! Thank you! I'm so excited for this opportunity. My discord is Dan_CE#9851
Hey man u inspired me to start using aseprite, trying to learn how to code now too. Your videos are really helpful, thanks 💫
I got a little coding experience now.. But that whole pixel art from Adam is just insane. I'm trying to learn it also. I wish you luck ;)
Me too!
Same as you.
What I've seen from observing jams is that you need vagueness, while also being interesting and concise enough to get the creator noggin thinking. I hope I've gotten close to the mark of what could be expected in a game jam with my answer
Game Jam Theme: Only One
This can be interpreted in many ways, like only one if a resource, or being isolated, or something meta with only one thing on screen. It can be concise and abstract so I think it makes for a good theme.
(also cause others are showing their gratitude too, thank you so much for these videos, you've helped me with so many pixel art issues I have. You have single handedly saved so much of my time)
Game Jam Theme: Connected
Thanks for all your quality videos, helped me a ton with learning pixel art!
Game jam Theme: Not a bug, a feature
Thanks for helping me make things im proud of!
I've already seen something like that, cool idea
Might be one of those cryptomnesia things, oh well.
I really think it can be a flexible theme without being too loose. The first thing i thought of was a magaman-y structure with each level/boss representing a different common bug, with a certain boss switching models to better hide a weakspot or make certain attacks more effective as it now has those classic The Sims demon baby arm tendrils, and with them much more range, for example.
Im pretty sure someone else can think of something more creative, seeing people come up with those "ohhhhhhhh" ideas is the best part of these things
@@guilhermemoreira8694 first thing i thought of was axiom verge
A very cool theme for a game jam would be "Trying Hard"! Congrats for the 50k I'm here for a quite some time, not really into commenting on your videos but always felt amazed by how relaxing game dev and creating art in general can be. I wish you an amazing journey to 100k
Game theme: The more wrong the way, the longer the game.
Wrong choices lead to a longer game.
I think "friendly foes" would be a nice theme for the jam
Theme: Outside the box.
Think my most memorable gaming moments are from Zelda on the NDS, how it incorporated the hardware into it's puzzles.
Obviously it'll be harder to pull the same thing on PC, but Undertale, Doki doki literature club and recently Rhythm doctor all did something pretty cute.
Love to see what else could be done.
My Game jam Theme :
*FunFromHome*
add comedy in the game.
express yourself etc.
i slightly agree, in the circumstances like this; we should have fun at home
Theme idea: Oddly satisfying
We would take over reddit with all the artists we have here 👌
Game Jam Theme: AROUND THE CLOCK
Game jam theme: "Speed is key".
I think it's a great theme that can be done in many ways. For.ex. in a platformer you need to have a high speed to jump over an obstacle, in a puzzle game you can push objects with your speed and in an rpg for example you heal when you are running in a high speed.
Game Jam theme: “Overused game tropes”.
Thanks for the videos. I’m a new subscriber but I know your videos will help me greatly.
Game Jam Theme Ideas:
1) Choose a Path
2) Seasons
3) Breaking the Rules
"Hidden in plain sight" is a theme I've wanted to do for a while now.
There are so many clever ways you can use that theme mechanic, art, music, and even control wise.
Theme: Murphy's Law
Even the different ways to formulate the law ("If something goes wrong, it will." "if something goes wrong, it all goes wrong." ...) gives a lot of options while challenging developers to adapt it. if the past (roughly) 17 months have thought us anything, it's that we can rely on people's stupidity to help that everything will go wrong. I also have to think of "War Game" and I believe there's some game involving the buttered toast always falling on the buttered side on somebody's mind already.... or just something way better that I cannot even imagine right now.
Thanks for all your videos 😊😊 you always inspire me to follow my passions for making game and all the best 👍 👍 for hosting the game jam🎮
🎮Game jam theme: "Glitch"🤖
I think it would be interesting to see what people make by this theme. 😁😁
Game Jam: Your the Game Master
It's like in Saw movie that youre the Game Master you set the Rules.
So the Player Can Survive
Idk if this would be the greatest theme because it relies a bit on the honor code, but it's the theme I'd love to see, so I'll suggest it anyways!
Game jam theme: Make a game genre you don't like into something you'd want to play
Thank you for getting me into Aseprite! Your videos got me going down the game dev rabbit hole, and now I'm seriously considering doing game dev full time!
This is the third video I've seen by your channel, I really like you pixel art stuff. My idea for a game jam theme would be: Slime, grime, and all things nasty!
Theme...hmmm...how about, 'breathe of life.'
PS: Pair it with good oral hygiene, if ya' please.
My Theme: Begrudged Alliance.
Could include game ideas like tricking Enemy AI to do stuff for you to advance, or coop games where you must reach a common goal before betraying your teammate in some way to steal the achievement and win.
Couldn't think of a good name for it, but I like the ideas it sparks.
Normality leads to failure
The words have different meanings in which you can choose to use but my favorite meaning would be that basically playing the game how you normally play it will lead you to failure meaning the developer has to someway make the players play the game in a not normal way. This seems toxic as to many people would have similar games and the mechanics would be the same but if you add a side theme of it should be similar to a old popular game things get heated example:
Main theme:Normality leads to failure
Sub theme: parody of a popular game
A person using those themes could create a flappu bird clone where you use the tubes to teleport between incoming objects or something or sonic except you have to fight and use secret rooms to win
1) Time is money
2) When ____ can fly! (Play on when pigs fly)
3) Death is not the end, it’s the beginning
Your pixel art videos really help! Thank you for being here!
Game Jam Theme: Evolve (or Adapt and Overcome). Adam, you are a lovely person and your videos are very enjoyable.
Game jam theme: Wake up, it’s just a dream.
I know my comment is late and you probably won’t see it but why not.
Hey thank you man, thanks to you today i made my first 8 frame run animation, I love you! I think I will buy wacom intuous
First of all, congrats on 50k, you truly deserve it.
I don’t usually take the time to comment on other videos, but u have helped me so much in my journey, I just had to write one:)
U have been the best pixel art teacher that I could have ever asked for, and have speeded me up on my journey to become a game dev. For that, I want to thank u from the bottom of my heart. So, if u don’t deserve at least a million subs, I don’t know who does.
Also, here are my ideas for the game jam theme:-
1. You are your own enemy
2. Inconvenient superpowers
3. Parallel universes.
I think these game jam themes will give the participants a lot of room to work with.
Hope I win!
And if I do, I want to see the awesome games that people come up with.
Ps. I hope u understand what I mean to say, my English is not the best lol.
First i would like to say thank you for all of your amazing videos, they are straight forward while remaining easy to understand. I appreciate you.
Game Jam Theme: Mind Blown
Dude you are a good man to ship internationally.
I have subbed you for my satisfaction
Game Jam Theme: "Wait, was that it?"
Thanks for posting these videos, you've really been helping my pixel art!
theme "Downgrade"
i havent seen a single game (yet) that progresses backwards. so i thought this should challenge the creativity of the participants
Love your stuff. Keep it up.
Theme : two contrast lands
Theme: Wonderful Times
Or maybe: Adventure Tales
Theme: It's dangerous to go alone. Take this!
Your game must revolve around a certain item (any item of your choosing) in order to progress through the game.
Appreciate the reviews on the tablets Adam! The mid-range one definitely sounds like a steal for that price.
Game jam theme:
“Nothing is what it seems”
You could use visual and audible illusions! :3
Theme is : behind the scenes
Hope I win !!
Insta : @zaid_mermam
You have inspired me a lot on pixel art I almost had no hope with colors and big pixel arts until I found you I would love your more vids like this
I think there can be a good game jam theme : Insignia
Yeah i thought a lot but this theme found to me a lot new, open and innovative
Game jam theme: only 1 button
Theme: "Achilles Heel"
Your videos are very helpful thank you
Game jam theme idea : Families ! Lots of different interpretations :)
Game Jam theme suggestion: Equilibrium is fragile
Thanks so much for the video my guy, great insight
Game Jam Theme: "By fire be purged!"
Flamethrowers for everyone lol
Theme: The devil is in the details
Thanks for all the content!
Game jam theme: "A light in the depths"
Will try to get a friend to participate and I might try an entry too :)
Game jam theme: “Rebuilding”
I think it’s a nicely vague topic that can be used narratively, mechanically, aesthetically, or in any other abstract way this clever community can think up.
I'm a new subscriber and I had already learned many things about pixel art, thanks a lot man!!
A good theme for the jam could be "Your enemies are your weapons"
Theme: For every rose, a thorn.
Game jam theam: back to your roots
Or
Back to basics
Game jam theme - The lies of your ancestors.
jam themes: Automation / Lost / Deception
Game jam Theme: "Survive the Darkness"
There's also a wireless Intuos S, it's what I use actually! Also, thanks for all the tutorials, been loving it, even if I never tried some things, watching tutorials itself is really cool somehow.
Game jam theme: Time is relative
Hey pal, honestly your work is truly amazing I can definitely see myself doing art/pixel art in the future partly because of you and I hope you continue you work for a long while.
Also I saw Minecraft Launcher hiding in the background which might mean..when are we getting a
Minecraft Let's play?
Game jam theme: Minecraft/spinoff
-Sincerely Pickles
Hi for the theme I propose: Infinity
Habitually I am a silent viewer but you help me a lot with your tuto
Theme: Animal Companions
I love your videos, and you've really helped me improve as an artist - both for pixel art and just in general! I'm (very slowly) working on making my first proper game, and knowing that you have videos on pretty much every topic I could ever encounter while doing that is so, *so* reassurring and helpful!
Game Jam Theme: Lancers/Evil Minions
Thanks for helping me and many others with Aseprite!
I just subscribed! I think your channel is awesome and really inspires me to move forward in my game dev life.
Game jam theme: A walk in the park and then "visual representation of a cryptic metaphor" for inspiration
My Theme: Tales of Traders.
Sorry its not so good but its my try lol.
Game Jam Theme: The illusion of a choice
Game jam theme: Player is your Enemy!
Thanks for your tutorials, it helps me a lot in my recent project that im working on and it's getting bigger and more serious, thanks to your help!
Ooh I'd like to see "you are your enemy" as a theme for a jam, could make for some fun game mechanics
I would love to see you do some non pixel art using the same methods (like from your building/house video)
Also theme idea: NO PAIN, NO GAIN
thanks for inspiring me to do pixel art, Adam!
I just started fresh in drawing, do you mind sharing any friendly tips for me?
Also, congrats on the 50k subs!
Hi Adam, you've inspired me to start learning to paint Pixel Art.
I've just purchased a Wacom one, I know cheap right! I have a question about art pads. I'm new to them, and this one moves the cursor an inch off the pad, though it doesn't register a pixel until they touch, I find it weird, do art pads just take a while to get used too?
Many thanks!
Game Jam Theme:Vibrant Palace
A place which has astonishing architectural design yet strongly gives youthfulness
Btw congrats for the 50k! :)) liked and subcribed
Game jam theme : "Resist the urge"
Can lead to some quite interesting game ideas :D
I ignored overpriced Wacom tablets and looked for alternatives and bought HUION Kamvas 13 for $216. 13" FullHD IPS display, no batteries, side buttons, usb-c support, ... For the price it's absolutely amazing. The only downside is that the display has a little bit of light bleed on sides but I mostly draw in the middle of the tablet so I don't mind that much.
I think that: "Running the Shop" would be a cool game jam. I love games like Moonlighter and Good Pizza, Great Pizza, and think it'd be cool to see more of them!
Theme idea: Taken to pieces
Btw, great videos, they got me inspired to create pixel art and games. And to give more thought to art, then just something you thought will look good.
Game jam theme: "You're not sure you're the good guy..."
So many options...
Are you a politician trying navigate the alleys of power ?
Or an amnesic bad guy who just wake up in an hospital ?
A full fledged super hero that has very destructive powers and corporate sponsorship ?
Could be interesting... ( evil laugh in the background )
Game jam theme: You're the sidekick
I'd be interested in seeing how you use the tablet for pixel art! I'm still learning and not very good at drawing with pen and paper, but do okay with pixel art. I'm curious how I could potentially translate that.
Game Jam theme: "Depression"
Game Jam Theme: "Spirits/Supernatural"
Art focused channel and there is a lot of creative expression that can go in there and also range, like companion, enemy, the playable character, NPC, mechanics. It's a wide and fun one
Thank you for the opportunity, really appreciate!
Theme: Size doesn't matter
Also you're very inspiring to me and to many people! Keep up your work!!!!!!!!!
I use an XP Pen - G430s for Drawing, pixel art and 3d modelling, and I am doing great with it.
It definitely could be better. The tablet to screen ratio makes it harder to make good lines in drawing but I have made significant improvement since I got it in December 2019 so while it could be better, I'm still fine with it, and doing great, especially for 40 dollars, I'd still reccomend a 6x4 tablet though, if youcan affordit an even bigger one, but if you're on an low budget orjust trying out the digital arts, the 4x3 tablets are fine.
I honestly have no issues with it in pixel art or 3d modelling, I mean a bigger tablet might be better, but I really don't feel it when I'm doing pixel art or 3d modelling, I'm totally fine with it.
Game Jam Theme : Anti-Hero
Thanks for all the super awesome pixel art help! Been Silently watching for a while now.
I've quit my job to do game development full time. I'll also be joining many game jams over the next couple of months! Hope to catch yours!
Game Jam theme: "Add and combine" ("Add or combine" could also work)
I've always thought that combining things or adding them together is really cool (a good thing I'm studying chemistry) and I think that there are a lot of unique ways you can handle this theme (creature fusion, science game, combining genres, who knows what else! Damn imagine a game where it "adds" a new genre every once in a while, that would be sick haha).
Game jam theme: Super-nature.
In the two days that I've been viewing this channel, I've been feeling more creative and constructive than I have in a very long time. Thanks very much for being part of that.
PS, please don't enter me for the tablet, ty but I already have one. I just want to participate ^_^
Great video I just subscribed!
Just one thing. Your camera angle/orientation is throwing me off a little bit. It looks like the camera is facing down at the table and tilting 30 degrees backwards towards you, but without rotating the actual capture orientation. Lol it seems like I am hanging upside down in front of you and watching you unbox. I hope I made sense haha.
Great channel and I look forward to more pixel art/insignia stuff!
Thank you for the video.
Also, good luck to guys who'll win the giveaway
"yay
REPLY
lol
Just kidding adam
Theme: "Living in a Fairy Tale"
Thanks for your videos! I'm taking a Game Programming course and your channel is invaluable
Game Jam Theme: Rolling the Dice.
I had an idea for a silly game a while ago, where many/most mechanics are based around luck and RNG. With the player nudging those effects. I'm curious what other people might do with that idea.
Theme Idea: Treasure Hunting
Your video tutorials are great, well thought out and clear.
Game Jam Theme: More than meets the eye
I'm a beginner pixel artist and your tutorials have helped me so much! Picking up game jams and making games have become new hobbies of mine, and I always come back to your videos for inspiration :)
Game Jam Theme: Happy Little Accident
Keep up the good work mate, always feel inspired after watching your videos.
Game Jam Themes:
- why you need a mouse/keybord?
- no boundaries can hold you / boundaries are no joke
- surprise is coming
- sound counts
- 4th wall destruction
Game Jam Theme: Quite the Opposite
I really, really like your videos. You encouraged me to try out more high res pixel art and I freakin love it!
I am actually proud of my drawings now :)
Game Jam Theme: Ineffable
Ineffable by definition means too great to be expressed in words, however, in accordance with games it allow for many quick and innovative ideas and should inspire many creative solutions.
Game Jam idea : "Skillmonger"
An idea I have in mind is the player can/possibly get an enemy attack mechanic or skill/move to solve anything in the game, while the original or latest move the player have is given to the enemy.
So it's like trading skill/move, risk vs reward.
Or whatever your interpretation of this theme is welcome.
Game Jam Theme: Your home.
From South Africa and I love you videos and am enjoying learning! Sadly tablets are hellishly expensive here I hope I can save for one in the future.
I got myself a huion something 1060p for 57$ on sale, thats pretty dabbers I think, it arrives on Sunday, tottally gonna rebinge on pixel art
I love game jams!
As for a theme... Hmmm.
How about something that lies on my mind a lot, in these virus times, where I can't visit my Mom in her wheelchair or my disabled brother in his foster home...
How do I word it?...
"Home is where the heart is!"
... Is that thematically concise?
Theme idea: "Tell your own tale"
Inspired by your "indie tales", but I think more than flexible enough for a wide range of game ideas :)
Game Jam Theme: "Expand"
I think it could make some good gameplay mechanics and also some good storylines while still being broad enough so that people can think of different ideas.
Game jam theme : Combine
Thanks for all you're doing !
Have a great day !
What everyone forgets to mention about these small tablets is simple:
Your hand keeps slipping off the edge when you use it!
Marketing calls for maximising the usable area and minimising bezel; practicality calls for a bezel of *at least* two inches around the active area so that you can actually draw or write (I use it mostly for remote whiteboard work) right up to the edge of the screen without your hand falling off and causing sudden lines in the page.
