This serial is far more significant than poeple realize. It acts as the blueprint for how 7th doctor stories were written in the wilderness years, which then went on to impact how certain stories were written in the modern era. For example, there's no human nature / family of blood without curse of fenric.
McCoy's run is criminally underrated.
Curse of Fenric is still my No.1 Doctor Who story. It's 100 minutes of slow-burning horror, essentially at the hands of a Lovecraftian Great Elder God (Hastur the Unspeakable). The WW2 setting is fantastic, the one-off monsters and side-characters are awesome, and 7+Ace are in top form throughout - with the simple concept of 'faith' being susprisingly underutilized throughout the show. The only downside is -- Season 26 is most rewarding when you've followed 7+Ace long enough to see her arc unfold. Otherwise, if you jump into the story with no prior knowledge, a lot of the revelation (and Ace's arc) may fall a bit flat. Either way, it's Peak Who! And my top pick from Season 26.
This is possibly my favourite 7 story. It has so many layers and shows a different side to The Doctor. A darker, manipulative one. Ace is brilliant and the guest cast were a dream. Nicholas Parsons was a revelation! ❤
Totally agree. I love this story. Dark, action packed and a great script. McCoys finest hour. (and a half) 😉
I love that with the faith of the doctor in this episode it’s his friends, I love that he also mentions Susan Ian and Barbara when he needs to have faith
It actually subtly ties into Earthshock and the Cyberman's comments on how the Doctor's reliance on friends is somehow a weakness
@@eastmeetswestpresents6923 that too
Something tells me that Fenric is “the one who waits” that the Toymaker was so afraid of he refused to play a game with him.
That would make sense...
Personally, I think they're trying to build up a new arch-villain. If it's an existing villain, then yes, Fenric is a possible candidate, as he's one of the few remaining Elder-God level threats that could worry the Toymaker, but I have a feeling it'll be something completely new.
Considering they have encountered each other before with the toymaker ending their game in a draw . (Brief Encounters:Games) (DWM:192)
Ngl, considering how the whole "one who waits" arc played out, I think it should've been Fenric.
the doctor, that took me along this journey...
7th and ace were great...
Ill listen to the soundtrack and wnvision this entire story from beginning to end
I love this story
Mark Ayres music was sensational! What a score. Still have the c.d to this day :)
Man, McCoy's last two series were so good
It’s seasons then it turned into series
I want to see Fenric once again in RTD2
The 7th Doctor had some absolutely amazing stories.
This truly is a masterpiece of a story so late in the classic era.
The Curse of Fenric is my favorite Classic Who story. Thematically rich, we’ll plotted, genuinely tense, and has some truly fantastic emotional moments.
one of my favourite classic episodes
Penultimately The Curse Of Fenric was an excellent one to end the classic series on.
Four of your favourite episodes, surely‽
An amazing story and a testament to how good the classic era was!
Let the chains of Fenric shatter
One of my all time faves! Great character development and cool plot.
One of my favorite Dr who stories along with the silver nemesis
Thrilling from start to finish-awesome ending to the show!!
Love the scoring.
Ace has more gadgets in that bag than Batman does in his belt
I was driving, so I was only listening. that's when I realised how good the music was...
My fave Doctor Who story! ❤
7th doctor, my favorite doctor!
The BEST serial from the BEST Doctor Who season!!!
Nicholas Parsons, goodness, now that really is a blast from the past, forget he stared in Dr Who. (Forgive me).... born in '72 ... my Doctor is, and always will be, the last incarnation of Tom Baker regenerated into Peter Davison. Both are my Doctor.
Literally the only way I can legally watch Classic Who in Australia ATM…
I like the 7th Doctor and Ace
Surprisingly good BGM
Edit: Nevermind, this is only a teaser for it I think
Oh these are getting released outside the UK after all? Yay!
Good old Ace.
For the longest time the episode and Ghostlight were the only episodes I could see of the seventh doctor which were on Netflix.
Seven episodes were the only episode‽ Yeah, that’s really not how the English language works at all.
(And it’s _Ghost Light_ !)
I kinda like these military ones when meanwhilebin real life the military industrial complex is the real enemy 😢
Anyone know where to watch classic Doctor Who series of 1st doctor to 7th
Tubi
🌌
When will the Tales of the TARDIS segments premiere on the official UA-cam channel?
"Language that may offend"? I'm trying to think of anything that might 'offend' in the whole story.
Hey BBC, release 'Torchwood: Absent Friends'
One of the best it really showed that doctor who was getting back on its feet during mccoy's last series. This is honestly what the show needs right now, a dark and gritty era
@@reubensalter8125 I meant in the last couple of years. 13s era was just too light and boring
I love this era but 5:24 until the haemovores leave is hard to sit through. It just looks so cheap and badly staged😭
They had no budget
Good story but good grief the music was so irritating pretty much whenever the monsters are on screen.
Bizarre comment to make - the music in McCoy's second and third season was one of the strong points. Very strange to think otherwise as it's very, very widely acknowledged.
🤮🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Wow. This is. DREADFUL. SO VERY EMBARRASSING. You can see they'd run out of everything. The actors do what they can with what's here, which is an utter mishmash. Uff. The only ones looking at this fondly were children when this came out and are blinded by nostalgia.
So you are completely unaware of how highly regarded McCoys last two seasons were then?
This isn't the full adventure, just clips from it. The full adventure is a brilliant story full of intrigue and mind games and a game of chess between good and evil, metaphorically and literally.
You seem like the type of person to skip the 9th Doctor and go straight into S2.
I was born a couple of years after this was aired so i didnt get to see it until many years later. It's still one of my favourites so don't go putting the blinding nostalgia finger on it for those of us who didn't grow up with the original run
Fenric is a masterpiece and more than holds it own against ANY of the modern era
My least favorite Doctor!
so why are you here?
