    Thank you very much for this video Alec. You took some time and made a nice video that shows nicely what happened. I did a similar video in 2011 about the MT Phoenix tanker which was refloated. Took two months. I also edited it and put a narrative to it to describe it in some detail. It is worth it and makes it something we can be proud of. Well done!!!

      Christiaan Kleynhans hi.. thanks and I will watch your work too. Yes, this video took nearly 3 weeks. Horrible time I spent. They finally pulled the ship at about 9pm. I could not video that. Too dark.. hummm.

      Alex forever so I take it that they swung the bow around to shove it forward out to deep water. Did they pull the tanker with cables from the big barge ? Did the 3 excavator actually help to slide the tanker over the samd.

    Absolutely amazing they got it done! When I saw them start with these oversized garden diggers, it became interesting. No tug to pull it afloat, no sand pumps... Amazing. I only hope nobody got killed... If so, good job but a lucky strike. It was very dangerous; guys standing by that rusty anchor chain being lifted and put under tension... Guys walking around the wreckage by incoming and outgoing tide and not being sucked underneath... Scary stuff..

    • @ChileThailandtravel
      @ChileThailandtravel  8 років тому +2

      You are correct. It was restricted area. But people just ignore it. The risk was there every minutes being sucked by sinking sand. hide tide and falling debris even iron steel from the ship. but people did not bother much. they ship engineers even put up some fence but i did not put the videos since it will consume more time and editing. no one was killed but some hide tide incident that nealry washed away those tent and so on. but overall it was a scary operation during the tractor digging the sand to allow more sea water to circle the ship. thanks..

    Great Job, well done to all those that took part. A continual on-shore wind made the job very difficult fighting against the ship but the excavators made it work. More please

      It took more then 2 week..the crane that suppose to pull, the cable attached snapped. may be the ship was tooooo heavy for the tug boat to pull. who whole process dragged from days ot 2 weeks..hmmm..those crue was sleeping at the beach too. very hard working...

      Thanks.. Actually the top engineers there did not encourage to video it. I think may be they tried to avoid publicity. The weather was bad always. Raining n hot sun. The ship stranded so far from my house. I had to cross into minor jungles to reach this place. Not a safe. Place too. I was doing it without any prior information but lately met friends that willing to help to update me. The process took two weeks with many fail attempts. Dangerous too. The last day you can see it was already on the right direction but I was not informed early that the next night they going to finish it. All of sudden my friend called me at 8.30pm that the sea level is high and they going to pull it that night. But since after 7pm no taxi goes there and I was sad that it was too late night. They pulled the ship that night. Around 9pm. Every minutes few inches it move into sea. Pain to sit and watch. But the last footage shows it was the last position and the night was the time they pulled.

    • @ChileThailandtravel
      @ChileThailandtravel  8 років тому +2

      But actually even if I was there at 9pm. I still won't be able to shoot it.. Since my camera are not mend for night vision. Complete darkness. So, my intention was to show to people how this ship was pulled. Thanks for cheering.

    Incredible job well done. no tug for pulling. no ships dregger lovely they were work with good team even with limitation off tool and personal protection equipment, from beginning I have worried it for any incident but look like done according plan. One I miss it I really like to sea when the ship free afloat at sea and how she move it from stranding.

    • @ChileThailandtravel
      @ChileThailandtravel  8 років тому +4

      It took more than 2 weeks. it suppose to be within 5 days work. Yes..as you said..limitations of equipment etc and also allocated budget. The last part of this video is the ending part. where they have managed to pulled towards the sea. They was waiting for high tide. The next night at about 8pm onwards..all of sudden they decided to pulled as the sea level rised. That area was very dark and it was near a small jungle and there is no lights at night. My friend called me about 7.30pm that they may pull the ship.. but it was too late. no cars or taxi will go there during after 7pm.. so..it was too dark and even if i went. I wont be able to video..complete darkness and the ship was moving inch by inch for about 3 hours or so...no way..at night i cant do it..thanks..

    pumping water under pressure under the hull would loosen the compacted sand ... for this one needs a horizontal drilling machine, pipes, and a few powerful water pumps or firetrucks

      There was many complains too. It took 2 weeks to drag it back to the sea. many failed attempts too. The sand they was digging was not a good idea since the next hour the sea brings back all the sand again to its place. you can see it. This clip was edited to make it fast. But actually 2 weeks i was there from morning till evening. i know the pain and i saw all. Thanks.

      You realise this was the tanker that was hijacked right? I think it has more to do with the fact that the Thia owned tanker was like a reminder to a proud Thia bussiness. The Thia people are a very proud and respectful race much like the Japanese really in their life. They are a very different culture to their other Southeast Asian neighbours Vietnam on the one side and Burma the other!!

      Alex forever thanks for taking the time to make this video, it’s a darn good account of a job that I never thought that they would be able to do, given the tunage of the tanker and the equipment they had to work with. It’s very impressive to see what can be done when you have limited tools to work with. I’ve been involved with a number of salvage operations and it is so much more work than the armchair experts think it is. Great video 👍🏽
