This is great! I was lucky enough to be able to watch some of this being filmed- as a kid, we lived on a houseboat in Sausalito. The scene on the twisty road where the two cars pass a red station wagon, that wagon was my mom's car. We watched as the tanker truck flipped- that wasn't scripted. I'd nearly forgotten this existed!
The first time it went up over a curb would be enough to break your wheel, activate airbags and twist the chassis beyond drivability. That 75 Monte Carlo or those two Fords were ever gonna pack it in. These scenes make me feel mad/sad when I see these cars destroyed.
Remember being a teen in the early 90s we all had Monte Carlos and old ltds. Damn things were built like tanks. Ran mine up on a cement median once and it only skinned the bumper a little!
I lived in winfield ks..in early 90s bought one identical..I was drunk..slid off dirt road..hit 4ftx4ft wide 2ft tall block of ks limestone block. Sliding sideways..I was doing about 50.. judging from skid marks..hit block..flew sideways airborne..15yrs..slid to a stop...tire that hit rock was ripped off went flying...rock was split in two pieces and moved a few feet..I had no idea the damage or that I went airborne just wanted to get outta there before cops found me...car fired up..put in drive...would go..drive shaft disconnected...after I sobered up..looked at damage...talked to local police...I realized how lucky I was.. truly great cars..
Just breaks the heart watching those great classic cars getting destroyed.Bug I grew up with cars like these.I really remdmber the monte carlo and my uncle had a T bird like that one but red gorgeous. Great vid thanx
They were cheaply made and very slow in fact and the handling was inexistant. I had one monté carlo similar to this one. The 2 things they were very good at were burning gasoline and rusting. Same thing for the ltd. I certainly don't miss them. Only people who didn't drive them are nostalgic for these smog mobiles. They stopped being good around 1972, and if you lived in a place where you had a lot of snow, they rusted away after a few years.
Hey ! I use to do that to my moms 1977 Buick Century station wagon lol! Made it sound like a police car in pursuit! Just a dumb kid with my first drivers license.
Those cars are not old. I was a teenager when they were around. If they'e old, then I'm old, and I refuse to accept that. . I'll toss my false teeth at you if you make a remark like that again.
When I was 16 my parents had two 1976 Monte Carlos I took my drivers test in a the lime green one with the Landua vinyl top 350 Chevy motor really hard to kill.
People, and society as a whole, were much more in the moment and up for things. Not sitting behind screens and taking meds for anxiety and depression. And about everyone having the right to live their life as they please.
It wasn't better. It was different. People had issues too. The only difference is that people were oblivious to these issues. It wasn't the magical time people who weren't alive imagine that time period to be. And maybe you'd heard it was wonderful, but people tend to be idealistic about the time when they were kids or young adults. It was just different, and everything took a lot more time to do and you couldn't use Google to get a simple fact. You had to do extensive research and go to the library or make many phone calls. Same for the 80s and 90s.
Very interesting how in one shot the rear end of the Thunderbird is mangled beyond repair, and the next shot there is no damage whatsoever. I want a car like that.
They must have boosted the engine in that monte carlo because these models were very slow. I was unfortunate enough to have one, I paid 200$ for it at the time. They were just enormous cars with no handling and no power. Same for the ltd. In the early 90s, those who didn't rusted to nothing were almost given away because people knew they were crappy cars. The only thing they were very good at was burning gasoline and rusting. I don't miss them a bit. Only people who didn't drove these are nostalgic of these.
It is impressive to see what these stunt drivers could do with those floating love seats on wheels and not have one poverty rim turn into a pizza slicer down the road.
I loved my 76 Monte Carlo and I installed a 427 under the hood but watching these old Fords that need sand and rocks thrown on the ground, so they can slide is funny!
Folks clammering on about how these old land yatchs were so great seem to be forgetting that this is a movie. They destroyed many identical cars to film these scenes. There are no "magically self fixing" cars, but there were multiple copies. Power from these things was shit, mileage was shit, safety was shit, handling was beyond shit, reliability was an afterthought. That they were quite comfy and would haul a lot of stuff is about all they really had going for them. Mid '70s to mid '80s cars were the worst.
My mom had a 1976 and 1977 those chevys were built like tanks she had a collision with a bus and all that the car had was a a small black scuff mark on the front bumper
Tricking Ford Thunderbird with carriage ride suspension with 4 and 1/2 to 1 steering ratio what a dangerous car they must have done something to it for that chase scene
Heartbreaking today to have seen demise to that Monte Carlo.
At least he wasn't doing it to an El Camino.
Those cars are better. (In my opinion)
@@floridahighwaypatrol7713 are they the same platform A bodies?

@@brandedmcgowan9414 Couldn’t tell ya
Back in 1976 it was strictly a gas guzzling used car...
Amazing how the front end damage fixes it's self.
Monte Carlo, Thunderbird,LTD,great 70s American icons, today's cars couldn't take a beating like that and keep going.

Thats pretty cool man
No GPS, no touch screen, no auto start-stop just good old American iron.
My favorite! :-)
No cell phone🤣😂
I've always liked those mid 70,s T-birds.
The cars of today would stop after one hit.
true

My first car was a 1975 chevy monte carlo that scene for me is always entertaining
This is when cars had balls and built solid rock. 😉
Although the engines was underpowered with those chole emissions stuff they were well built

My mom had a ‘77 Monte Carlo and my sister had a 1974 monte in gold.
The self fixing front end on the Monte Carlo was a add on from factory back then it costed $300 now it’s $3 billion

That mote carlo took a severe beating love those old monte Carlos my father had one 1975 same color he bought it new about 5 grand
Any of those cars they crash up like they're cheap are on Craigslist today for a mere 30,000.00.

The movie "Street people" or "The Sicilian cross" with Stacy Keach and Roger Moore. 👍
