Tanaka has been working on that sharp cross spike since he saw Bokuto do it in the middle of season 2's training arc. To see him be the very embodiment of perseverance, his advice to his childhood friend of "just keep trying until you can" being fully actualized on SET POINT is one of my favorite moments of all anime.
Imma just clarify a couple things. 1) Tanaka did not freeze. He was ready to go for the spike, but Tsukishima sent the ball to Asahi even tho someone else had called for it. That's why Ryu got even more depressed and dropped his arm down. 2) "I think I just got my heart broken" is basically Kanoka admitting that she's probably never going to end up with Tanaka. Even tho she's clearly into him, and it would be an extremely easy opportunity to get a girlfriend, Ryu simply isn't that kind of guy. And Kanoka herself knows that. "Keep trying until you can do it" was something he taught her way back during their childhood, but in this episode he showed how he's very much still living by that philosophy. Both in volleyball, and the other aspects of his life. Such as romance. So, that pretty much meant "it doesn't matter if I'm right here, ready to be with him, he's still going to pursue his romantic dream, regardless of how much of an utopia it is". Tanaka is a dreamer, lol. Also shoutout to my beloved Miya Twins, still playing around and having fun trying new stuff, even when it could cost them the entire set. That's one of the main reasons why I love them so, so much. :'D
Bit different take on point 2. She already was aware Tanaka wasn't into her. That's why she said "I think I just got my heart broken" to her cousin. Seeing Tanaka play made her realize she was in fact in love with Tanaka, and therefore her heart really is broken.
How no One of them realized that tsukki gave the ball to asahi. When they said tanaka distracted the opponents by freezing After calling the ball i was in disbelief.
@@7daimeHokage It’s the fact that when she saw him keep trying and finally getting that point she was reminded that Tanaka will never give up on what he wants and will finally get it, she knew he would not give up on Shimizu.
That was not a dick move; if Nishinoya can receive first, that's ideal. Nishinoya cannot participate in attacking, so it's best if everyone else is open to attack after the serve is received by him - including Tanaka who is one of their important attackers.
In the manga I'm pre sure they mention how when Astumu is serving that Nishinoya should be the one to recieve it if he can, so as you said the others can get ready for attacks, and because he's their best reciever. And Tanaka calls himself lame because he got so wrapped up in being targeted and how poorly he was playing that he forgot their strategy.
Tanaka is genuinely head over heels for Kiyoko, like he said, "my heart is set on another." He doesn't know how to hide his feelings and always keeps his word, so Kanoka knows for certain that he meant what he said. So she really did have her heart broken.
when she said that "i guess i really had my heart broken" she was realizing that Tanaka had always been so honest and straightforward ever since they were kids, it's like her confirming him saying "i had my heart set for someone already" was actually true
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS TANAKA EPISODE !! I WAS WAITING FOR IT . I genuinely think that tsuki and Tanaka episodes are one of my favourites from the entire series
The role of the libero is actually to receive the ball if they can in place of the spiker so that the spiker can prep for the attack. Take for example with Shiratorizawa, when Ushiwaka had a ball coming to him, sometimes people would receive instead of him so that he can prep for a spike. It also conserves the spiker's energy, and is most efficient for the team considering the libero cannot participate in attacking.
Tanaka's motto is never giving up on anything so that's why kanoka thought that tanaka never going to give up on shimizu , that's why she said that her heart is broken. And the Cross Spike tanaka did was inspired by Bokuto's Cross spike, because after the training camp in tokyo tanaka inspired by Bokuto's Cross and line shot.
The girl said her heart had just got broken because she realized 1. Tanaka is a very honest person if he had any feelings he would tell her and 2. if he already loves someone he's not gonna give up on her. So no she's not Tanaka's girl just a friend.
The more i rewatch this episode, the more i catch the little things. I love this episode cus Tanaka for the whole series so far has been this mentally strong character that doesn't get put down by anything. So seeing him have his insecurities and doubts about himself, but then seeing him rise above that is just amazing.
Fun Fact: Tanaka has played every game in the so far, never subbed out, never injured, never got suspended from school, never lost heart... no other player can say that, not Daichi who got injured in S2, not Kageyama who had to rest several times, not Nishinoya who got suspended for two weeks. Keep going Tanaka, you baldy!
When Noya took the recieve instead of Tanaka, it wasn't a dick move. For a US example, imagine in baseball a hit goes high up and an average player is right under the position to catch, but your #1 catcher can easily move over and get under it... You'd want the specialist catcher to take it right? same here in volleyball. Any defence ball that Nishinoya can get to, SHOULD be his to take. For example, no one would complain if Noya took a receive away from Hinata, Tsukki or Yamaguchi. I think the difference between Noya and Tanaka receiving is just as large! ALTHOUGH, there is an obvious argument that taking the ball away from Tanaka says they didn't trust him with it. But tbh it's the right move when you're facing an Inarizaki serve. I am SO glad it came good for Tanaka in the end though. Shows that regular athletes can still hang with the elite if they persevere!
Former Vball player (Libero) here. Just FYI, the 5:53 scene is the ideal attacking form for a 4-2 formation in Volleyball. 4-2 Formation is when you always make the 4 attacking players (2 Back Rows and 2 Wing Spikers) available to attack without receiving or taking the first touch, which normally done if the team wants to have a fast pace aggressive game to be able to score. So, Nishinoya really made an awesome call there for Tanaka to be able to participate on the attack. If Tanaka happen to receive and given by Miya's explosive jump serve, Tanaka will be late to participate on the attack and Kageyama will leave 3 options (Right/Right-back/Back-mid) rather than having 4 options. 4-2 Formation also applies if you have 2 setters on the court but none of them should participate on the attack :)
If I remember correctly there is actually a short little scene with the coaches and Kiyoko after Tanaka makes his cut-shot. Where the coaches express worry and relief that he was able to score and had the mental fortitude to make it through that. And Kiyoko responds that she was never worried cause you can always trust and count on Tanaka to see things through till the end. Takeda-sensei is surprised (presumably by her faith in Tanaka and by extension her attention towards him) and he’s like ‘yeah ur right’ and smiles. It’s the teensiest crumb, but it’s a crumb of a potential mutual appreciation between the Kiyoko and Tanaka. I can see why they left it out cause it’s not all that important and the “I think I really did have my heart broken” is a much more powerful scene to end on. But it does add some very appreciated“harmony” to the main story. by showing that Tanaka’s method of approaching situations by stubbornly running face first into with an open heart not only helps him overcome troubles in volleyball but may also connect with someone aloof and shy in his love life. (Personally I still like Tanaka x childhood friend better 😂)
Tanakas friend said she got her heart broken because she realized that Tanaka is so tenious that he will never give up on what he wants so he will never settle for anything less than Tanaka
There's a difference between animation and character design. The character design is more like the manga. The animation and direction were definitely worse than previous seasons (with some notable exceptions), but definitely still enjoyable.
ya'll should start reading the manga you'll eventually understand with whom tanaka ends up with. i love your guys content with anime reactions its highly entertaining.
I didn't get what they meant by "he looks like nekoma guy" when referring to past Tanaka. If they meant Mad-Dog then they got the teams wrong. Since Kyoutani is from Aoba Johsai. Or did they meant someone else? I don't know I got confused
...The more accurate reasoning would be (In my assumption) after seeing that game and that Tanaka hasn't changed so she knew he wasn't going to give up on whoever it is that Tanaka said he likes just like he doesn't give up in the game because it's important to him. This of course more than likely involves what you said too if she wasn't already sure but I think there's more to draw from it.
It was not a misunderstanding that he told her he has feelings for someone else. In this episode she realized that he has always been stait forward and he has absolutely no romantic feelings for her.
Doesn’t Daichi already have that one girl? I don’t know who tanaka ends up with but I’m pretty sure he only see the volleyball girl as a friend. If I’m wrong someone correct me but without spoilers thx 🙏🏼
The great aspect in this episode is that we all feel for Tanaka. Sometimes, we also feel that we are not special, just a normal average person that seems to have no direction in life no matter how hard we work for something. This episode is GOAT. We are all Tanaka. This is the part where he became my favorite character in Haikyuu.
He refers to the fact that that time was 2020 and it was covid, what was happening is that the animators were working at home, that's why the last episode had low quality, but compared to this episode it is much better.
The "covid season" Suraj keeps talking about isn't even the 2nd half of this season like he thinks it is, it was the first half lol. This second half of the season is much better than the first half animation/art wise.
C'mon man, it's evidently worse to anyone with a pair of eyes. Compare this season to 3 and it's not even remotely close in quality. The models are so off in half these episodes it's bizarre to look at them.
Shiratorizawa season had way better animation overall, is pretty obvious this season hadn't the same treatment ... I wouldn't dare blame to the animators tho.
Man I really wish there were less people for Haikyuu reactions or at least with less annoying people. Man I love y'all but personally hate these reactions, even stopped watching temporarily but I guess for me it's permanent now
