Had my AT Pro for a couple of months....each day I learn more and more about the use of it....it takes practice....I was detecting an old pottery mansion near the Ohio River a couple of days ago and dug up two old pennies and a diamond ring....AT Pro works great!..nice video also
Thank you for uploading this video I found it very helpful. I just got in to MD and purchased an ATP. I am still trying to learn it's audio sounds and what they mean. This video was very informitive. Thanks again.
Very awsome thank you, just bought the At pro first tried tonight with only a few caps, pull tabs and 1 penny. Thanks for the great tips I will definitely utilize them in the future.
I always enjoy your videos Madison. Due to the fast recovery speed on this AT Pro machine I find myself using it more and more in the dry sand at the beach, and I save my Explorer for the wet salt sand and the times of erosion. After watching your video on comparison VDI readings and tones I took it to the beach and had a huge 4rth of July with an abundance of everything. Very thoughtful info you post-Thanks.
Just started using an AT PRO and have been digging up junk! I learned more from your video than I did from the dvd that comes with the machine! Thanks.
This was one of the Best and most Informative videos i have watched about Metal Detecting...And i thought i new how to read my AT Pro.. You taught me alot my Brother, and i thank you.. Profusely! just wanted to say that word "Profusely" It's Cooooool
Hey dude UA-cam brought this up man that was a while back you still using the pro or did you get something better like the 800 I'm still using the ATpro but I bought a simplex from a friend I'm not liking it so far but maybe I'll get it still want the 800 maybe one day. Have a great weekend see you soon
I would recommend Pro Zero mode with nothing notched out. I recommend setting your high-resolution iron to 28-32 with the iron audio on. You will know if you find a patch of iron. Iron patches will require smaller coils and slower swing speeds. Have your sensitivity as high as stability allows.
thank you....this video was very helpful....i just purchased a used at pro.....i am also from maine.....bucksport.....but 3 1/2 years ago my husband's job moved us south to virginia.....i enjoyed listening to your accent
I'm def a rookie but I popped a silver really fast and learned how to not dig trash with my pro... But I didn't know or understand the iron audio mode. I can't wait now that I know! Thank you!!!!!!
Great vid M.M., thanks for the tips. I'm new to hunting. Love my Garrett AT Pro & Garrett Carrot pointer. Still learning on it. Took it in the river last week, that was fun. Keep up the good work. GL&HH
Good tips, that's pretty much how I dig. Do you have a similar video with the X-terra 705? I just got one of those to complement the AT Pro and I'm a bit lost with it, especially in really trashy areas.
Hey Madison.. Im your neighbor in Starks. Had a good first year detecting last year. I just upgraded to the AT pro and will be arriving today. I started an interest page on FB. I have several people on. All are novice or no experience. Most have a detector of some sort tho. We are going to try to get together some hunts this coming season. I know youre not interested in group hunts tho.
thanks for the tips and taking the time i have had much better results since ive used your settings for my at no more ghost signals and been digging less trash found a nice ring and a bunch of coins right in my door yard
Thank you for the comment, it made my day. I am glad to have helped you. This video is six years old but I used my AT Pro today with the same settings except I drop my iron audio to 35 these days. HH
We don't have the Civil War stuff here in Maine. There are days that I dig most everything and then there are days I's tired and only dig the better signals.
You are very welcome. I do have an updated version where I recommend using iron audio on at 31ish when hunting around nails. The iron audio may drive you crazy but you are aware of how many nails you are swing the coil over and can adjust your swing speed and strategdy. GL&HH
I dinged it with my digger. I sent it back to Garrett back in January and they repaired it. If you watch my newest videos you will see I have a cover for it now.
I know this is a year old or so, Your tips are spot-on... but one thing not covered here is Ground balancing. I auto ground balance. Then, what ever ground balance ID number it shows I go in to manual balance and go one to two clicks higher than that. So if an 86 shows I manually raise it to 87 or 88. This seem to make is chatter a little more but the ultimate in depth reading.
greg appelgren The general consciousness among most AT Pro owners is you reduce the auto gb by 5 to 8 to gain depth. If your machines chatters more by raising the number then I would say its just falsing. Everyone has different soil conditions so what might work where you are at might not be true here. Also I don't run my iron at 40 anymore. I put it on 30 or 31. GL&HH
+Madison Maine There seems to be some discrepancy between which way to adjust the ground balance to make it more or less susceptible to mineralized soil conditions. One person says raise the number to stabilize the unit & another person says to lower the GB number to stabilize the unit. Can you tell me which is it?
@@MadisonMainedetecting so even though the AT pro was $600, there still is a better one? AT Gold? Darn it, I thought I had the best one? Figures. Best one at store I was at anyway, only 1 left which is the one I have now. I'm in Montana, wish I woulda found the Gold one. :'(
From my six months of using the AT Pro...I noticed the numbers lie and you waste more time trying to tell if the target is trash. So if the tone sounds good and repeatable I dig it.It helps remove the trash from the area for future hunts and some times you get lucky and find that ring under a can or a chunk of slag.If everyone did this the hobby would be more enjoyable for all of us...instead finding out the area has been cherry picked.
Nice tips! Think this will help me be more accurate in finding coins & relics with my trusty AT Pro. 😎👍🐠 Your more recent vid with tips for building channels drove me here.
thanks for the tips i live here in sidney been trying to get used to my at i get a lot of good signals and then they vanish half through the dig any ideas would be helpful love your vid nice to see some one local using the at thanks
Ahh the vanishing signal. A couple of things that will make your signal go away once you open the hole. The machine will get a better lock on what it is and you have that disc out on your machine. Very common if its a rusty iron object. The other thing that can happen especially on deep coins is you remove some conductive soil between your coil and the item and you are left with an air test. What I do when a signal disappears is use my pin pointer in the hole or dig a bit deeper and use my pin pointer.
craig vietor Yes, that is where you usually find those older coins. If you don't want to dig every little thing then open a nice plug and scan again. If its iron it will usually id as iron better. If the target ids better its most likely not iron.
No, check to see if your shaft cams on the shaft are tight. Did you insert the gaskets that go inside the holes at the bottom of your shaft? Those are inside where the coil ears attach.
MM, I JUST GOT MY PRO THANK-YOU FOR THE HELP . GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND:-) ps/ good reply and bad someone will say something bad u did very well my friend:-))
From what I have seen from my friend Aussie coin hunter's videos, the only difference is the depth indicator is metric on the international model. The other version gives depth in inches. A good question to ask Garrett Detectors. GL&HH
Hi there, enjoying the videos. Just like to ask, what is the difference "in the pro modes" with iron discrimination? If iron discrim is up to 40 should you still hear readings under 40 "without" bringing in the iron audio? Thanks.
Good question, by the way I usually run my iron disc around 32-35 these days. If the iron disc is on 40 which means you do not hear anything at 0-40 unless you turn on the iron audio. Sometimes listening to the iron audio can become tedious. Remember the iron audio is there if you want to turn it on to hear more info. It is hand when checking likely steel bottle caps.
Are there any other detectors in the same price range as the AT Pro That perform just as well? I'm looking to get back into the hobby and like your videos.
If you run your iron disc is at 40 you will skip good targets that are right next to a low signal iron object. If you get a signal and dig it and it disappears then its most likely a iron orb. When something small risks in the ground it makes a sphere and rings up as a good signal.
I'm new to metal detecting and I'm getting ready to purchase an AT Pro. I've been watching a bunch of hint and tip videos for this model of detector. I'm wondering what spot on the search coil you use to locate things. Some say they use the tip where ot says Garrett, others say dead center in the middle... Was also wondering what's a good cheap detector for my 9 year old son. For the price of a kids detector, I can find a decent normal one. Thanks!!!!
Since the AT Pro comes with a DD search coil anywhere down the center is where you will be receiving feedback. I have never noticed a difference between the center or either end of the coil. If I was to buy a metal detector for a kid it would probably be a Go Find or one of the Ace series machines.
Thanks for reply. I asked because i just purchased a used at pro. Tried it out twice so just trying to get used to it. But noticed when in the pro mode (all metal) with iron discrim at 40, am still hearing that iron sound on iron. Then when i press for iron audio i get a pinpoint sound. Think i will have someone look at it. Thanks and good hunting.

I have both the AT Pro & AT Max As well as a Minelab Explorer. I have had Great success with All 3 detectors. However, the Explorer does have quite a bit of a learning curve Imo.
A coffee can by itself will ring high. A good question. I bet it would ring about the same with or without the silver. I might have to try that though. HH
