    I take melatonin bc I can’t fall asleep when I try to nasal breath at night. I’ll look and see if you have a video on falling asleep bc I am trying to clean up the breathing but simply can’t get relaxed enough to fall asleep unless I take melatonin. Appreciate your content.

    I’m having a heck of a time with my sleep apnea. I’ve been on a bipap machine for almost 6 months and am not getting adequate therapy from the machine. I have been taking melatonin every night, so thanks to you, I’ll stop it and see if that helps.

    I have been using melatonin since 2007. I use 20mg at night. I dont need to use it if I wake up 6am and get on with my day. I use cpap, i am prediabetic and on keto, IF, exercise resistance training and walking. I will try to stop taking melatonin. I am glad i found yr channel. I am female 138lbs. I cannot lose weight.

      Thanks for sharing your journey! Sounds like you’ve already got some great habits in place with keto, IF, and resistance training. Melatonin can be helpful, but it’s awesome you're looking to adjust. Sometimes stubborn weight loss can be tied to deeper sleep quality or hormone imbalances, so it’s worth exploring those too. Happy to have you here!

    Melatonin is a hormone, correct?

      Thanks for that! I'm something of a sleep expert... I sleep every night! And yes, melatonin is a hormone. It's produced primarily by the pineal gland in the brain and plays a crucial role in regulating the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm). Melatonin levels typically rise in the evening, signaling to your body that it's time to sleep, and decrease in the morning, promoting wakefulness.

    Hi Dylan, in short generally people with sleep apnea are not recommended right?

    I’m a big and tall guy. I take 5 mg melatonin and my sleep doc says it’s ok because of my size. I need it as I can lay there a long time without it and my wife snores.

    I have sleep apnea and I noticed if I allow myself to get way too tired like if I'm awake for 48 hours, it gets so bad I can barely breath just layin down.

    • @dylanpetkusmd
      @dylanpetkusmd  Місяць тому

      why are you awake for that long? Also, when you get to that state, other processes will start to hurt your breathing and compound apnea at night

    Regretfully, i took Melatonin on a "bad night" and my sleep duration was unusually long. I awoke to a lot of respiratory distress (implying my body failed to wake me appropriately). I observed a similar effect from Doxepin... these drugs are unsafe for apnea patients / should never be taken
    there are times when the forbidden fruit is appealing, but less sleep isn't worth potentially dying. *Especially* with severe apnea

    How about agomelatine?. Can you give your expert opinion on that?
