    I also realized by my own expereince that drastically reducing sodium and processed sugar intake, and shedding off excess body fat can substantially reduce the occurence of sleep apnea, and even eliminate it. I go to bed around 11:30 pm, and my last meal for supper is around 5:30 pm, 20 minutes after which I brush my teeth to eliminate the temptation or the excuse to snack on some food. That helps a lot to stay fit and have a sound sleep!

    Biggest help for my sleep apnea was hugely reducing my sodium intake and not eating about 6 hours before bed. I never have sleep apnea anymore.

      @@jdawg6624 good. i got this method from study that went over doing just this. they found more sodium towards bed increased episodes of apnea and severity.

    I have had chronic sinusitis for decades, leading to a chronic cough and thick sticky mucus. No doctor has been able to help and generally prescribed steroids which I reacted badly to because of the anticholinergic effects, i.e. mind fog and dizziness. But something did help finally: nasal rinse with saline + betadine + vinegar. I believe I have had a chronic infection of some sort, probably both bacterial and fungal. This type of rinse has been a great relief and has substantially decreased but not eliminated all my symptoms.

      @@LS-dc7oo Normal amount of saline + 3-4 drops of betadine + 1/4 teaspoon of vinegar (to prevent irritation). Note this formulation doesn't apply to allergens like pollen or smoke or irritants like acid reflux.

    I have been eating several cans of sardines a week, and noticed that I slept better. I did this because I felt fish is a better source of protein than red meat for health reasons. Sardines is a convenient way to eat fish.

      It is processed meat that is the problem. Grass fed beef is a good protein source and very bioavailable but always eat a variety of food and fruit and vegetables for gut health and the other 4 health defense systems. No processed meat though.

    Vitamin B1 is helping me a lot with my central sleep apnea. I don’t have obstructive sleep apnea. I take the B1 with Magnesium and a B complex because those all need to be taken together. I have a B1 deficiency and it’s causing my sleep apnea.
    Uodate: Im writing back after 3 months and I just want to say that the B1 the neurologist prescribed for me is the only B1 that works for my central sleep apnea. I bought different ones from Amazon and none of them work for my breathing issue. So some of you might want to get the B1 from your doctor if over the counter ones aren’t working. Take it with magnesium and a B complex. And take it before bed. I find this helps me to sleep good with no breathing problems than if I take it in the morning or afternoon.

      I came across Dr. Eric Berg video on sleep apnea, also identifying B1 deficiency causing my high anxiety, insomnia, sleep apnea and hypertension. I take Tikva because it has also calcium, magnesium, etc. and also the Calcium Magnesium Zinc D3 Spring Valley which definitely helps my bowels and hopefully my gut inflammation. The latter definitely raises my D levels very quickly. I also sleep on my stomach and practiced mouth-taping which forces me to breathe through my nose more. I think years of singing in choir caused me to do mostly mouth-breathing. See the videos by NDX on sleep apnea and mouth taping. I finally am sleeping well, and blood pressure under much better control.

      @@nancyvogelman The B1 deficiency is also linked to excessive urination, especially at night - it's a neural problem, not a kidney issue.

    What’s the deal about not sleeping on your back, I’m 83 and had to train myself to sleep on my back. This greatly helped with CPAP masks!

    I had sleep apnea and nothing worked until i purchased a cpap machine and focused on regular sleep every night. Cannot be overstated how valuable the cpap became. After 9 months sleep apnea was significantly reduced.

      Great to hear that. Were you diagnosed by a doctor or did you self diagnose and just buy a machine? Im 2 months into not sleeping (quit weed which was masking the problem by knocking me out) and sleep study appointments are so far away that im considering just buying one out of pocket

    Thank you for your work on sleep apnea. In addition to wearing my CPAP mask, I use the Breathe Right strips and PAPMD mouth tape as I am a mouth breather. I have only used the mouth tape and Breathe Right strips for 45 days. Yet I still wake up with a dry mouth, one or twice per night. Why is this still happening? Your thoughts please!

      It could be that your pressure is too high. I had myself tested again and my cpap pressure had to be adjusted from a 13 to a 9. Dry mouth is a thing of the past

I Suffer of sleep apnea about over 7 years may more....i am young 49 years old and not overweight i had 24 AHI per hour ...after changing diet to plant based....and jogging everyday 20 min and toungue exercise and blow up baloons for 15 min a day and loosing weight over 15 KG i reduce it to 6,5 AHI.........its a very good result but nerver goes away for nowww sometimes i suffer from episode where i get up from heart racing,,,but not so weird when it was.....also i tried NAC before sleep with 600 mg and this makes my heart beats more nervous and tachykard....how i can take natural NAC tru food rich on it like soja beans...? Have a nice day!

      Great to hear! As good as certain supplements are, they can only do so much. Ultimately, it's mainly due to anatomic/jaw structure narrowing that most modern humans suffer from to various degrees. Perhaps you may want to consider seeing a sleep dentist for a dental appliance to help you sleep better, even if your AHI is low.

      @@doctorstevenpark Great Doctor !!! I make my own research and now i discover that i have mallampati Score 4!!!! I was diagnosed by mild sleep apnea from 2017...and no Doctors have explain me this....i ask them neurologist what are the causes, cause i want to treat the root causes...he said to use the cpap thats the only treatment...... :-(
      I found out that something anatomical can actually play a role for me. I had the scores of 1-4 from Dr. I looked at Mallampati and I got a score of 4. When I stick my tongue out I can't see the lower structures of the soft palate or the arch of the palate, I can only slightly see the throat otherwise the tongue covers the picture. My tongue also seems to be about too big. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnone in 2017. with 24 pauses in breathing per hour. I weighed 90 kg, now that I've lost over 16 kg and started jogging, blowing up balloons and doing tongue exercises over a longer period of time, the last sleep test was almost a year ago and I only had 6.7 AHI per hour and all without any aids. I jog for 20 minutes every other day, then inflate 10 balloons and do about 200-300 tongue rotations as exercise every day. I don't feel as tired anymore, but I have the feeling that I'm lacking air...I think it's oxygen...even when I'm awake and during the day...I can't tolerate CPAP, nor can I tolerate dental splints... ..I'm also taking all the supplements you recommend in this video...I've changed my diet to low carb...all the measures I've taken have already had a positive impact, but it can't continue like this. I'm only 49 years old and I just lack more energy in everyday life despite everything I've done so far. what else can I do??? If I continue to train so consistently because I also use the digiridoo for 20 minutes a day, I could eventually lead a normal life despite my anatomical problems. So far I've managed to get to 6.7 AHI without any aids? Thank you and kind regards

      @@GDe-gi1kz The first iron supplement I took that relieved my sleep apnea was Pure Encapsulations OptiFerin-C. It's expensive, though. Bulk Supplements Ferrous Gluconate powder works also. It's in loose powder form and will stain teeth so I use a capsule machine: ALL-IN Capsule Filling Machine for Size 0.

    Also, tongue and throat exercises help and slowing down your breathing . Narrow airways causes faster breathing and hypervintilation. And also food...quality food. Key is to get healthy...and getting healthy and lowering stress ....helps u lose weight and fat. I am surprised that u do not mention any tongue exercises here or breathing exercises.

    You mention inflammatory markers that go up when you have sleep apnea. Do these markers increase with UARS as well? How could one test for those markers? Thanks!

      I'm not aware of any studies measuring inflammatory markers in UARS. However, there's one study in pre-eclamptic women showing a rise in TNF-alpha, IL-6, and CRP. Essentially, UARS presents as pre-eclampsia in pregnant women, where they don't usually have sleep apnea but have lots of flow limitation and brainwave arousals. There are some old studies showing improved fetal outcomes after applying CPAP, but it's never been applied in clinical settings. You can always ask your doctor for these studies.     I got rid of sleep apnea with b1, I also use NAC, to get rid of mucus from aathma. It’s the only thing that helps.

    I never heard of NAC before. QUESTION: I buy my supplements from Vimergy because they don't have any additives. They don't sell NAC but they do sell glutathione. Can I take glutathione instead of NAC? Would that be just as good? If not, how can I tell which companies sell good quality NAC supplements?

    I got a lot of relief from sleeping on my left side with a pillow between my knees.
    I still use a CPAP but my overnight O2 sats look good and I track them every night

    Really fantastic video.
    Two things I would note are:
    NAC - has been shown to promote tumour growth in mice but probably has anti-cancer properties too and so people may wish to research this one more.
    Melatonin - if you supplement on melatonin longer term this will inhibit your body's ability to produce melatonin by itself. The focus should probably therefore be to find ways to increase melatonin naturally e.g. morning sun exposure as opposed to supplementing.
    FWIW I'll probably still do a trial with NAC just in case it's a game changer for me. Will be giving some of the others a try too!

    Thank you Dr Park for this useful in formation. I was wondering if there may be supplements that can reduce sleep apnea. I am taking all the seven supplements for other reasons. I was diagnosed to having a mild sleep apnea. Currently I am using a ball in my back to avoid sleeping on my back and this seems to reduce my SPO2 falling below 90% but not all the time. I am taking Glynac and from your statement, I will raise the dose.
    I have lots of indoor plants like snake plants and money plants to improve oxygen level in my sleeping room. Do you have any information that this may help the apnea sufferers.
    I reduced my beet juice drinking because I read that too much of it reduces the red blood cells capacity to carry oxygen. Comment please.

    Dr. , did you research the cause of apnea as narrow palate with high arch & very narrow upper airways? A narrow archy palate doesn't allow the proper tongue position during sleep which causes mouth breathing ( also detrimental). As for supplements you mentioned they are artificially/ synthetically made ( NAC, C, D). What are the natural sources of NAC, glutathione?

    Is it possible to need Septoplasty but then it no longer being necessary once jaw surgery (to fix recessed jaw) has been performed or can jaw surgery not resolve a septic deviation?

      In theory, jaw surgery won't correct a deviated nasal septum, since the jaw procedure enlarges the front to back dimensions of the oral cavity. A septoplasty widens the width of the nasal cavity. However, by improving obstructive sleep apnea, jaw surgery may lessen inflammation in the nose, opening up the nasal airway.

      It didn’t help me but it does help many people . I’ve tried everything. I’ve chronic sinusitis, docs can’t stop it . Waiting to see a specialist in a Respiratory Dept . My oxygen level in my blood isn’t great at night , this was discovered in hospital whilst I had my appendix out . I was put on nebulisers and oxygen. I think it’s narrow tubes , my ears get blocked too. Can lose my hearing at times . Pollen is a major cause plus dust . Where I work is not cleaned well

    You list vitamin D. Several other sites state to only take vitamin D during breakfast our preferrable at lunch and never at super because vitamin D effects your melatonin. So now im confused

    60nmol/L of vitamin D is considered high?
    Where does that idea come from?
    Tests done on members of an African tribe, who live their ancestral diet and live their ancestral lifestyle, and beach lifeguards, who work outside every day, found levels of 80-160 nmol/L with the mean deviation being 120-140 nmol/L.
    This is the level we should be aiming for. This is what we've evolved for. Unless you work outside all day, every day, you need vitamin D supplementation. This is how we lived up until the industrial revolution. We haven't had time to evolve since then.

      I'm basing the recommendations on the vitamin D and medical conditions chart that I included in the video. Yes, you can get lots more vitamin D by spending time outdoors, especially in more tropical environments. It's been documented that you can easily create > 10K units of vitamin D within a few hours of total body sunlight (without getting burned).

      nmol/l, is way less, because you have to divide it by 2.5 to get it converted to ngms. Ideal levels are above 60ngms. Do remember that there's rare toxicity of D3. Higher the levels better is your immune response and various ailments get resolved

    Thank you. I have found help with several of these supplements. I also take thr D3 with K2, zinc and magnesium glycinate at night before bed helps with staying asleep. With Omega 3 and vitamin C in the morning, I take iodine, copper, n-acytalcistine and a good B complex and extra B1 with nutritional yeast.
    I just learned to go to bed and get up the same time daily- no matter how much sleep that night. And to just lie in bed in the dark - courting sleep, instead of giving up and going in another room to read, knit, or play games. Each night sleep is getting better. I also sleep on a wedge pillow with a heavy pillow lying across at the base to help hold my body in place.

    The way to totally get rid of Sleep Apnea is to teach yourself to NOSE BREATHE! You can do that easily if you use skin tape to tape your mouth shut for about a month. After one month you've got it down. What you will notice? You'll have much less 'dry mouth' in the morning, and your spouse will start waking you up with their snoring (ie: Sleep Apnea!).

      Taking care of the sleep apnea will help everything else you do to lose weight.
