From what Sweden did in the group stage compared to the USWNT, Sweden should have won with ease. The fact it went 0-0(5-4) tells me Sweden tried to give the USWNT the win but they just didn't want it. 100% Rapeno did that on purpose. Now they will claim they are being paying even less and force US Soccer to give them even more money. When being a victim is more profitable than winning.

*I would also add that there were players there in the world cup whose countries have much greater issues (a lot worse) than we do in our country; extreme poverty, lack of opportunities for most people (esp. women), less resources, etc. Yet, they (i.e Vietnam, Nigeria, etc.) were proud to represent their countries and did not resort to childish antics like the U.S team.*

I was born in Brazil. I have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Brazil. I have played soccer/football at a very high level. I have played against other nations as a U.S. team. I continue to follow soccer/football. So on the "equal pay" narrative front I agree with what Rhonda Rousey said, "You should get paid relative to how much money you bring in." That being said, I am thoroughly embarrassed by how the U.S. women's national soccer team handled themselves throughout the World Cup. It was an embarrassment on the world stage in both the caliber of play and how the players acted especially after a dismissal performance against Portugal. The real inequality was between this world cup squad and the last squad that won The World Cup. I hope this early elimination is a wake-up call for the U.S. Soccer Association. But somehow I don't think it will be any time soon.
I would love to see the Brazil men vs the Brazil women. That'd be amusing.

The WNST has absolutely destroyed the overwhelming amount of good will and fandom that took years to build. The 99’ team, who essentially started this, constituted a group of women, the perfect girls next door, highly patriotic and proud to be playing for their country, that just happened to be the best soccer team in the world. That you now have a rather large fandom openly rooting against this team is a resulting repercussion of greed and woke politicking. Furthermore, veterans/ex players are disgruntled and outwardly vexed at certain current players. Who can blame them.
Never before has so many sports supporters rooted for a team to lose, including their own compatriots. They have taken respect and honour to a whole new ‘low’ level. Imagine not being respectful to your own national anthem, the country that funded and supported you to attend these global competitions. All the USA players should now stand down and let more deserving ladies represent their country. Shame on them!

It still perplexes me how the WNT doesn't really understand how toxic their approach to this contract/pay thing was. They didn't have the contract they wanted, they don't try to counter or negotiate US Soccer, but would really go off tangent and keep using PR to portray the victimization and sell this hallucination of "inequal pay." Bad role models for the younger generation because it sends the wrong message on how to be an adult when you find something you thought is unfair.
Over here in the UK the average soccer fan has no interest in the England women's national team and will laugh at the poor standard of play.
But none of them actually hate the team and are probably generally pleased for them if they do well. The hate the USA women's team generate is very telling and it seems Rapinoe is the cause of 99% of that hate. She has virtually set the USA team back 10 years regarding public approval.

My personal opinion about women's sports has diminished because of the false drama the women's soccer team has created. In particular I resent rapinoe even though it's probably not her fault she became an unwitting spokesperson for the USWNT.

I just came back from a 2-week trip to visit family in Sweden. Almost every house with a big flag pole flying the Swedish flag. Very proud of their heritage and country but not in a boastful, conceded way.
As someone who lives in the USA, Glad to see the Sweden team won.

The worst outcome of gaslighting people is not opposition, it is indifference. The ultimate victim of lie used to get paid more is the growth of the women’s game. They’ve squandered over 20 years of goodwill built that saw them almost universally loved, to now being marginalized. That’s one less viewer on the world cup, one less viewer on their home club, one less household viewing the game to inspire a young girl, and ultimately less sponsorship dollars to grow the women’s game. The price paid is future apathy. Even if they won they still would have lost.

Having seen your prior video, and having Swedish guests turn at the hotel reception I work at, at exactly the moment the penalty shoot-out started, I was against the women's US Soccer team and for the Sweds. The USW team brought 80 staff on top of the squad. An insult towards the other participants of the tournament whom most have 20 at most. My teams were Ireland and France. But I had some sympathy for the Jamaican W.S. squad which had far bigger problems than team US. Now, I'll be singing for praises towards Eugenie Le Sommer and the imperial Wendy Renard!

The league structure in the US ignores failure itself since there's no multiple divisions where there's teams being promoted to the division above for finishing in the top places or teams being demoted to the division below for finishing in the last places.

The U.S. Women's Soccer team displayed both a woefully and Wokefully performance at the 2023 World Cup.
At this moment, women’s soccer is evolving worldwide. Therefore, competition has risen. The US women’s team is no longer the dominant leader. This factor will be considered when they have to renegotiate a new CBA, unless they shape up. If they don’t, they will not make as much money through sponsorship, merchandise sales, and TV deals. So the time has come to perform under greater pressure against tougher opponents.
Way to go Sweden. Good to see a team that is proud of their country win this. The women on Swedens team are all class acts. We Americans did not have a team representing us this year.

No doubt they wll take it to court and then the judge saying but your own evidence shows you made more from the men's world cup prize money than your own in a share deal and you have a salary and benefits deal so in fact you earned more than the winners in total and per match and them still going on claiming they were discriminated against and Rapinoe saying she had to miss that penalty for equal pay😉

A Contract is needed to as they get paid to play. Any contract should have a conduct clause. Any disrespectful conduct especially toward the country they are playing for is automatic dismissal and in violation of their contract !
I, in no way support this woman’s national team. Not only did they lie about past pay and benefits (I followed that story for quite some time), but several of the players refused to either sing the National Anthem and/or place their hand over their heart during the playing of the anthem, and publicly state that would not do so ever again. While I’m all for their right to do as they did (24 yrs retired military defending those rights), I’m exercising my right to root for any team that they play and that’s exactly what I did this time. Great Job Sweden!!!
One more thing, the mens team showed how to simp in a most spectacular way by signing that deal!
As I saw many years ago when the USW beat the CAN squad by belligerently bullying the referee into awarding them a penalty kick which i believe was the difference in the game, the USW are used to getting what they want.
Through all their shenanigans, I still always rooted for them to win. This year, I finally had enough, I was glad they lost.

The reason the men agreed to this deal is that national team money is so little compared to their club revenue. It’s basically the same as a corporation donating because it’s good PR.

Minimum pay is still in the 6 figures, especially if you play in first division soccer. If you are selected for the 25 man USMNT roster, obviously you’re good enough to be earning at least one million at your club. Men’s national teams don’t really need to get paid individually, unless you’re from a poorer nation where their domestic leagues are also poor. That’s where prize money is vital. A team like haiti or panama, for example, would fight tooth and nail for that FIFA prize money.
They had to give away free tickets to get people in the stadiums here in NZ.

Agreed. Pay the women same in cash, but then also give the men benefits.
Probably won’t happen as they have their clubs or unions that support them via sponsorship through companies and private sector. The only real loser here is the League, and it’s uncertain to how much they will take before dissolving or dropping both teams entirely and rebranding to lose the deadweights that don’t bring in any revenue or now reputation.
As an Australian I am proud of Sweden.
