    Now interests me. I’ve been looking for ways to get more speed from my military projectiles. 22-250 doesn’t have the barrel twist rate needed. 22 creedmoor would be ideal but this may be more obtainable for me to construct.

    Nice video. I’ve been running my 22 Grendel for a couple years now. Been running H4350 with 75 grain ELDM’s. And hunting with 64 grain SGK’s with LeveR. The SD’s get tighter on the H4350 as you get the case to full capacity. Not compressed, but full. Getting 8 with mine and running 3027 with the 75’s.

    The 22-250 was made in a semiautomatic platform "AR 15" By Olympic arms years ago. The 22-250 runs around 3,700 to 4,000 fps. Now change the barrel on the 22-250 to a 1to7 twist and you can shoot the 88 and 90 grain pills out to 1000 yards easily with better bc bullets.
    The 22-250 is a cheaper and easier to do than this.
    Great work as always and its nice to see your son out shooting. My son shoots with me too and it's great passing on the knowledge to him.

      Thanks for sharing. I've built a few 22-250 AR10's reliability is hard to get as the 22-250 has a weird pressure curve. For the purposes of this rifle, this cartridge seems easy to load, offers higher capacity and I'm able to push 88gr at 3K. Pretty stellar performance with using less than 30gr or powder

    Cool video! you're correct that advertised velocities are let's say OPTIMISTIC when it comes to factory ammunition. You're on the heels of the 22-250 for sure and with a 22" barrel at that. Cartridge efficiency is often overlooked when a person picks a cartridge for there next rifle. There are diminishing returns when it comes to case capacity. 6mm BR is a classic example of a small case pushing heavy for caliber bullets to almost 243 velocities, and with 10 grains less powder. And as an added bonus, double the barrel life. I will say you have the magneto speed right there backing up your velocity claims, and they are impressive. When I first got my chronograph and saw the REAL velocities of factory ammo it was an eye opener to say the least. You are not saying that the 22 grendel will out perform the 22-250, because a handloader can crank up the 22-250 also with certain powders. But comparing your results with FACTORY loaded 22-250 ammo, you're right there brother. Keep having fun and keep us updated with your project.

    The powder H380 got its name from being able to push a 55 grain bullet 3800 fps in a 24" 22-250 with 38 grains of powder. This was a well known accuracy load back in the day.
    3500 fps with a 55 grain bullet isn't faster than a 22-250. 37.5 grains of Varget will get you in the same speed neighborhood. With that said, 3500 fps is nothing to sneeze at with a 55 grain bullet in an AR15.

    That was cool.... Although I know this was already costly to run this build, and to do the testing and the R&D of this... I am now curious to see what the twist-rates of a few barrels would do, to show if things get better or worse, over what they are now or dangerous..LOL... When I just poked the math quickly, I can only assume the projectiles are BT's, but the surface area of the flat baked bullets, based on the 3500FPS, as per the chamber pressure, as you clearly noted, you are running a much MUCH heavier barrel, .. YIKES... LOL... I LOVE IT ! ! ! ! Those dudes are cruisin!!!! But all that blow-by onto the brass, I about a week ago, was just reading that a powder load under charged, can cause that, then it was followed up by, an over charge in powder, can also do that blow-by game... and the book did say, only experienced shooters/loaders should ever content with this... What are the odds that I am getting to witness this strange property of over pressure charged powder, after banging my head on the wall trying to understand how that can happen.. The Under charged powder, makes 100% sense to me, as the brass isn't being fire-formed outwards to seal against the chamber walls, ... The book also said that carbon blow-by on the neck is a typical and common thing, but down the rest of the brass shell, to use caution, unless you are a skilled loader, (Which I am not) so, I think you for show casing this rare situation of this is really cool. I learned allot on this one. I think the book called this process, blow-by-creepage, when it bleeds down the full length of the brass.. The book was saying there is a delicate balance of being normalized on lug stress pressures, and being too much for the lugs to contain. But their testing in this process claims that in that millionth of a second, the brass is actually not touching anything and is neutrally balanced, as it isn't touching the bolt face, the chamber walls, the neck & shoulder walls, nothing,, it is just chillin floating in the middle of gases, LOL. .My mind is like WHAT? Such an amazing process. I have not finished reading the section of this, as I needed time to allow this to download into my slow bean called a brain, but I shall finish the reading now. As I have no clue of the pro's & con''s of this rare oddity that you have made happen by design.. Where I had to take a break from the reading, was this was about bolt actions.. You are doing this in a gas gun...LOL. .As I understand, the projectile would have already left the barrel, by the time the carbon has "creeped" on down the length of the brass.. I don't know factually, just guessing.. I look forwards to learning more about this setup you built with this 22 Grendel.
    Also, you are running the A-tips.. If you ran the V-max 55gr projectiles, at 3500 fps, what would happen to the plastic tips? would they melt? even though today's plastic have amazing thermal resistance, just wondering...

    • @treydenfrench7009
      @treydenfrench7009 3 роки тому +2

      The a tips were running at 2800fps. Older hornady polymer tipped bullets had in the past melted but the new tipped bullets (vmax, eld, sst, etc.) are designed not to melt or deform. The hornady superformance Varmint 22-250 load with 50gr vmax is rated at 4000 fps and has no problems.

    Soooo the Russians invented the 7.62x39. Then they took that to make the 220 russian for the Olympics which is just the x39 necked down to 22 with a sharper shoulder. Then the Americans took the 220 Russian to make the 6.5 grendel. Then you took the grendel to make the 220 russian. Do you see the confusion I have here?

    • @EagleEyeShooting
      @EagleEyeShooting  2 роки тому

      Im confused why even give a hoot who invented what. Someone had the idea of using a 220 Russian case with a 22 cal projectile and it turned out to be an outstanding performer.

    • @flyfishermannick3632
      @flyfishermannick3632 2 роки тому

      @Eagle Eye Shooting the 220 Russian is essentially what you made here is what I'm saying. Yes it is an incredible round. And for decades it was considered the most inherently accurate. But what you have made here is not the 22 grendel. It is the 220 russian so don't pretend you invented it. That doesn't take away from its effectiveness though.

    Now that is an interesting cartridge! I just watched johnnys reloading do a 6 arc workup with lever evolution where he got excellent results. 2929, .51, 4.8 90 grain bullet. Might give good results on the .22 grendel

      Just because the cartridge is similar DOES NOT mean its the same. The 22 PPC is designed around the lighter 55gr projectiles thus twist rates of 1:12 or 1:14 and CANNOT be loaded with heavy grain bullets like the .224 Grendel to fit mag length AR15.
