Living in south central pa and with having fished at least a dozen class a’s I can say this stream fished amazing. I’ve only in my dozen or so streams hit 2 or 3 that fished this well. So many people don’t understand that it’s just the experience that makes these streams great though. Not that they’re monsters. It’s such a beautiful setting and a good 90% of the time you’ll get all the stream you want all to yourself to fish and take in to your own content. What’s better than that? Anyhow great video man. Thanks for the great comment RDO!! Yes, the environment where you find wild and native trout is incredible. The sights, sounds, smells… just everything is so beautiful. There is always the adventure aspect in these locations and also the peace and serenity. It’s like fishing in the garden of Eden and to catch just one gorgeous native brookie is just icing on the cake. How I love doing this!! Many times the fish are quite small but that is just a very small bit of the big picture. We do need to protect these precious waters. These are the waters of life. Long live the Wild and Native Trout and those guys that get the big picture!! 👊

Another great adventure....wow so many native brookies.....you were lucky to have such a great experience.....I know when I get into a few it's breathtaking how beautiful they look....I catch most of mine on a nymph but recently started using a dry dropper setup with good results also....tight lines...
A dry dropper is an excellent setup for small brookie streams especially earlier in the season. It’s great many times but especially when the trout aren’t looking exclusively up. It can be challenging though with all the overhanging trees so you have to keep your patience because hooking a few trees is inevitable. Tight lines Berks!!
Thanks TrueFlyLove, yeah, very important to stay back as far as possible when fly fishing for native and wild trout. They have survived by being wary of the slightest movement. It’s also incredibly fun to be able to get off a cast over and through the branches and to have a trout come up and eat your fly. Many times the fly lands in the tree…. Challenging but so fun and rewarding!! Tight lines!!
We found a snapping turtle today as well over at Frances Slocum a bit smaller than that one. You've got the magic 🪄 cast touch. You're like Midas with a reel and rod! 🤣 That blue line looks unscathed and as natural as can be!

Nicely done! 1st time viewing your channel. Grew up in North Central PA, been in CA fishing the Sierra's for 40 years now, but love to come back to PA twice a year to fly fish on all the old streams I fished as a kid. Great to fish some of the class A's.

Thank you very much, buddy!! Definitely appreciated. 👊 I really like an 8 1/2 ft 4 wt as an all around rod… if I’m just doing dry flies then a 3 wt or even 2 wt would be fun. I don’t like a shorter rod. Lots of tree cover and a side arm flip cast works great with a longer rod. Roll casts are harder to be pin point accurate with a shorter rod especially if going dry/dropper, plus more line on the water, have to strip line in faster, not as quick setting the hook and less distance when you do have the room to false cast.
@@WildTroutMan That’s definitely sensible. I’ve got an 8 1/2 4 wt also that I love but I’m always looking for a reason to use my Orvis Superfine Carbon 6 1/2-3 wt in my NC creeks. Also, i’ve been tying up a batch of your Super Adams! Thanks for the response…..cheers!

@@WildTroutMan Penns was fishing a bit tough, huge caddis hatch but the fish weren't really looking up. Caught a few nice ones on nymphs and a couple on dries. Just picked up a 2wt but I think it's too light.
Hi Rick, That was an 8 foot 4 wt tossing a Super Adams Dry and Pheasant Tail Dropper. The original plan was to fish the mouth upstream for possible browns but all of the lower section was posted. Nice to see so many brookies in the headwaters.

They bloom in the fall and into winter with a 5 petal yellow flower and their seed pods tend to shoot the seeds for some distance when ripe. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching. There are occasional snakes... almost all are non venomous. I am always trying to be aware not to step on one. In my many years of being out on the stream there have only been a few rattlesnake encounters. Those you don’t forget.

My preference is 8.5’ 4 wt rod if there is the potential I might be fishing a dry/dropper rig with a tungsten bead. It’s lots of rod for small trout but perfect for a tungsten dropper. Long precision roll casts with 6’ 2 wt rod will not work to my satisfaction with a dry/dropper tungsten rig. It’s all good and it’s all fun and to each his own. Most important thing is to be out there enjoying and protecting these precious wild trout streams. To know is to love. Tight lines!! 👊

Every native brook trout is precious no matter the size. Glad you enjoyed the total experience.
Your rod is way too big for that size of a stream do you need a six 6’ or 61/2’ 1 ounce 2weight, much more fun
