I am working to find a similar noise on my 2002 jeep 4.0 . My tensioner and idler pullies are spinning pretty well (the tensioner pully makes a slight bit of noise while spinning though), but am replacing them both along with the belt, while I am in there. My concern is the AC compressor, as I have recently had some AC issues. Is the AC compressor supposed to be able to spin freely with the belt removed? Mine does not. But my jeep makes this noise even with the AC turned off. I guess we'll see if the idler, tensioner and belt are the fix before tackling the compressor... Any thoughts/tips are appreciated.
Hello so this morning when I started the car I heard the same sound and notice that my voltage was dropping when I had the headlights on. By any chance by hearing that noise means the alternator is going bad? This is for a 98 jeep xj
@@BrianBalatbat Thanks. I have a 2004 and it started making sporadic whining noise today on the left side of the engine. Not sure if it's the alternator or pulleys. The alternator is the original and still charging fine so I'm suspecting the bearing. But it could also be the pulleys.
Everytime I look at a video about working on cars and I see the guy has his little prissy rubber gloves on I got to change video right after I leave this comment on every single one that's like showing up to a construction site in a tutu it doesn't matter how good you are no one's going to take you seriously
Way better than my method - replace everything till the noise stops - LOL!! Thanks for sharing.
Boy got skills ! Thank you!
Thank you, this was extremely helpful.
No problem ✌️

Hi, what was the voltage when you have the lights off and lights on?
I didn't know you can remove the belt and start the engine.
Yes you can, but alternator, water pump and power steering will not work.

Too save time troubleshooting, just replace the belt.
