    Funny story about me failing my physical. I'm legally blind in my left eye. During my Air Force physical, I saw the doctor write 20/200 for my left eye. So I asked him, does that mean I failed my physical? He wouldn't answer my question. He just told me to move on to the next station. I began asking myself, why am I continuing if I already failed? I was seriously thinking about heading to the exit. I wasn't exactly hell bent on going into the Air Force. Then, later in the day, another doctor ran some other test on my eyes. I asked him about the 20/200 written on my paperwork. If he would have confirmed that was actually a fail, I was going to walk out. Instead, he simply crossed out the 20/200 entry and wrote 20/20. Really? I couldn't believe what I just saw. When I got to Lackland, they routinely checked my eyes to fit me for glasses. The doctor in Lackland couldn't understand how my paperwork showed 20/20 but his tests showed I had 20/200 in my left eye. I told him what happened back in LA. He just shrugged his shoulders and finished the eye tests. I never heard about it again. I did my one enlistment and got out as an E5. Great experience, no regrets.

    My recruiter was awesome and he's a great friend (post training and operational). He never lied he never talked me into anything or bribed he was totally 100%. I told him I'd been trying to join the military for a long time but struggled with the asvab he stuck by me to help with great recommendations including finding a tutor because after being out of school at the time like 9 years I struggled with math. After i passed he worked close with us till we shipped off. After I got separated from BMT due to injury he didn't turn me away! He encouraged me and welcomed me back and helped me reenlist back in to go back to BMT about a little over a year later. So it took a while for obvious reasons including getting back in shape and better mentally, physically, emotionally,and spiritually. I went back to BMT covid times. My recruiter was always there including when I was in medhold (the first time). He always allowed me to call and tell me he was never going to give up on me. That to me is an awesome recruiter. It showed him determination. 🙂

      @@nataliaking5958 Sorry I didn't see this, I hope you have started your journey! My job actually paid for my military leave (60% of my salary), and I got Base Pay going INTO BMT as an A1C (I joined as a reservist) so I got paid as an A1C immediately while in BMT, I got BAH, BAS and Family Separation pay. The day after graduating BMT (11/25 ) I flew out to my Tech school in Missouri; my tech school was LONG (almost 4 months, and I did not enjoy it LOL other than the people I met, including my now boyfriend). I continue to receive all my benefits MINUS BAS. I am now back at my home, and immediately upon in-processing at my base, I ranked up to SrA; my base is where I live at (20 mins up the road), so my weekend drills are at home, my annual tours will be in another state, and my career field does deploy, ALOT so there is that in the future. I say speak with your employer and ask if they offer military leave PAY. Yes, they have to allow you to take military leave BUT they do not have to pay you. My employer does. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. :) Good luck!
      I went in as a divorced, single 33-year-old mom of 2, full arm tatted sleeve, a full-time job, mortgage, and bills. I also had a degree and had recently had surgery on my shoulder, and a medical waiver was provided within 3 days. I passed MEPS (which in my state is a virtual MEPS and was super easy). The hardest part was arriving 1st day at BMT while getting yelled at to go to bed, as it was 11pm when we finally got to our dorm. I stared at the ceiling and said WTH did I get myself into. I ended up ending my time at BMT being the only female to obtain the WAR HAWK award, which came with a commander coin, war hawk coin, challenge coin, a plaque trophy presented on stage with the commander in front of the entire BMT squadron (over 700 trainees), leading the run (which I didn't get a chance to, everything happened so fast (because it started raining) I went back to my spot (I was one of the smallest, so all the way in the back). And a handwritten congratulatory letter from the SMSgt on achieving this award. I am now almost 1 year post-BMT, home since March 2023 and just officially completed my 1 year since I enlisted.

    Facts....the more prepared you are, the more patience your recruiter will be and work towards getting you something close to your deeam list, regardless of the branch. Especially if your ASVAB scores are high, physical and background requires no waivers, they tend to prioritize placing you in a career field where you can maximize your talents, while also meeting the needs of that branch. When you have issues and lack preparation, thats when the impatience seems to kick in and they are like: "look, this is what's available now, take one."

    My grandson went in to see an AF recruiter while in his last 3 months in HS and tested, had a 48 QT, since his Mechanical and electronic scores were low. He was interested in security forces, but was willing to see what he qualified for. Recruiter told him to retest and come back when he got his drivers license. Kid walked out with a crappy feeling and his step-father told him to see the U.S. Coast Guard since he worked one time with them. In the end, the kid joined the USCG, got culinary specialist, got a 40K bonus, and will be an E-4 in the near future. I was upset with the AF recruiter, but hey, the kid ended up serving his country. A gain for the USCG and a lost for the AF.

But this summer, i changed my mind, decided on the air force. From middle of June, I reached out to the USAF main toll free number, no luck. I contacted a local USAFR recruiter, still a little hurdle as it was hard to get a quick hold of them. Hey Jody, I understand that the AF needs come first, and you guys are recruiting people based on the current needs of the AF first.
    However, I am thinking of joining for active duty, and if I do well on my ASVAB, PT test, and also have a bachelors degree in the medical field. If I only have one medical job that I would like to do in the AF or what you consider "Job locked," even though I have the qualifications for this job, should I not even waste the recruiters time of trying to join the AF given that I only want one job?
    Thank you.

    Your videos have given me so many answers to my questions and have provided me so much insight about the Air Force and the recruiting process. I have met with my recruiter a few times now, with the intention of joining with my husband, but we are currently working on improving our physical fitness for BMT and my husband needs to lose around 40 pounds before we can join. I was wondering if this might make us low priority to our recruiter, since we don’t yet meet the requirements? We are ideally looking to join as soon as possible and we have spoken with our recruiter about this. But I received an email yesterday asking if we are still interested. I emailed back to let my Recruiter know we are still interested in joining and doing so asap, but we are currently working on the fitness goals that we had initially discussed with the recruiter last time we met. should I be worried about our chances?

    • @hayleephillips7409
      @hayleephillips7409 2 роки тому

      Side note: I provided my recruiter with all necessary documents when we first met. Valid ID, Social Security card, birth certificate, marriage license, and official college transcripts. I have also filled out and turned in my application. My husband has done the same and we recently received his brand new Social Security card so he can finally get that in to the recruiter. I let my Recruiter know I have about 10 jobs on a list that I am interested in; I have my top five that I would most prefer, but I am open to other jobs as well. I did months of research before ever reaching out to meet with the recruiter and I went in with my list of 10 jobs I’m interested in, my AF WIN results, bases I’m interested in overseas and stateside(10 each), many questions for the recruiter, and partial knowledge of the Air Force song and Airmans creed. my husband also has these things in order. I guess as a follow up question, do any of these things help our Recruiter to put us higher on his priority list even though we need a few months to lose weight and prepare our fitness levels before we could succeed at MEPS??

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  2 роки тому

      You’re doing everything you can do at this point. You’re still a great applicant, however there’s nothing your recruiter can do until you all lose. Because you’ve done everything else, that would mean as soon as you all get to the required weight, y’all should be first on the recruiters priority list. For the recruiter to reach back out to you, that should let you know your recruiter cares. Now you two just have to do your part. Good luck on the journey. I’d love to see you both reach those goals. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

I am purely interested in joining for Special Warfare (specifically PJ, but I would take the other SW careers if PJ didn't pan out), because It has been a Dream/Goal of mine for several years. If I wasn't able to get a SWOE-V contract, I would pursue careers in other branches. Would a recruiter be somewhat disappointed or even de-prioritize me as a candidate due to me only being interested in special warfare?

I listed my 10 but my recruiter says 4 of them are molded into one particular title now and that I should put down the aptitude on my top 3 if I’m aiming for a particular job. Any advice you can give me? So far I’ve been having a terrible experience so far as my recruiter is fairly new and seems not to care much.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  10 місяців тому

      Aptitude areas have pros and cons. The pros are you’ll see more jobs that your recruiter won’t have and you’ll see specific jobs (ex. If you were to work on aircrafts you can see which aircraft you’d be working on). The cons will be you don’t know your job until you’re already gone and it’s a luck game which varies week to week.
      That being said I came in with an aptitude area. I did 6 years in my first job, cross trained into my second Jon, then cross trained again. I’m saying this to let you know if you don’t care for your initial Jon, you can always cross train later. I hope this helps and good luck.

      @@Jodywithawhy thank you sir, but is it mandatory to put an aptitude index on your job list or can I list out each job and hope to get one? I put down particular roles I’m looking to fill but according to my recruiter, a few of them are classified under the same title like loadmaster and boom operator fall under mobility force aviator. He said if I’m really trying to get any of those I should also list special missions aviator too. Since my number one job choice is fire protection, he mentioned that I should put a general aptitude index on my list to hope to get it during basic training if it’s not open right now. Is he actually telling the truth or giving me false info as he, from other experiences and reviews, doesn’t care much about the people he recruits.
