I'm with you. I bought the plastic GRAYL with the matching nesting SS cup.
Same here 🙂
Great video been researching getting a new filter to use on trail.
Thanks brother! With Ohio's waterways being so bad I suggest the Grayl or other purifier over any filter.
I love my grill plastic I did get the cup and lid along with a milk bag from sulfur lands outfitters and I like that idea because you can use the pot or cup to boil your water in if you need to boil or make coffee and I the grayl fits inside to the Pathfinder cup
Much respect for your honest first impressions. I thought all the same things about this version as you have. It’s frustrating watching all these other UA-camr’s that apparently have money to throw around. They can’t stop praising the titanium version.
Plastic version I can get behind.
Thanks captain and happy holiday season to you and yours my friend!
Hello, here in the north, this type of system will only be used once in winter camping. Water will freeze the filter and make it unusable. Happy Holidays to all, and greetings from Quebec.
I have a grayl already. I agree with your assessment.
The problems that I have heard is that if you cook in it it can warp and will not seal , it can be dented and will not seal.
I love my plastic Grayl and would not trade it. For over 30 years I have used a filter by a company called " First Need" and I put activated charcoal in the filter .
Just in the last 5 years I switched and tried other filters.
Good video Shawn.
I own the Geopress plastic version. I purchased a Lixada titanium pot (750ml) and cup (450ml) combo to meet the requirements of boiling water; cooking food; and as you pointed out, and is the big point of focus for me: I can clip a toss line onto the pot’s bail and lower the pot down to a water source. I have no desire what so ever to toss any part of my water purification system down to a water source: the water cleaning station stays near me.
The Lixada set comes with some mesh bags for storage. I put the bag on the bottom of the Geopress Grayl and slide it into the pot, fits snug that way. The pot rides in my water bottle pouch on my pack, lid sitting beneath with no rattle.
The 400ml mug sits snugged up around my second bottle in the pack.
I think the main thought behind the titanium version was for the cooking aspect, saves having to have a separate cooking pot.
The other thing is the durability aspect as the titanium will take a lot more knock than the plastic version.
I went for the plastic one with the pathfinder slide on cup for cooking
That is a solid choice my friend
Hi thanks for the examination of this setup. I think I prefer to just carry a titanium 500ml mug that fits around my existing plastic Grayl so I avoid any contamination. Comes around the same weight.
I have the plastic version a d I carry it in an insulated sleeve in freezing temps to protect the filter element. A metal Grayl serves no use to me because I'm never with my usgi canteen cup, stove and canteen pouch.
I use one everyday and my thoughts are as a travel or get home bag purifier emergency canteen they are great. For campfire cooking the pot is too tall to cook evenly and the capacity is too small. But purifying bad water from a sketchy hotel room? Perfect.
So is it 1.4 or 1 pound 4 ounces? 1.4 would be 1 pound 6.4 ounces. I know, it's easy to get confused when reading those digital scales sometimes, especially when you don't use them that often. Ours is easy to misinterpret as well, my wife always mis-weighs the mail because she'll say something is 1.4 pounds instead of 1 pound 4 ounces. 😂
Just use grams and avoid the confusion, please. Most of us in states use grams anyway.
Yeah, I agree with you on value for money. And if you boil the water with the cup, those handles will get toast, not to mention manky.
It seems I saw a vidos several months ago that used his in a fire and it ruined it.
Imo your way better off buying the plastic one and get another pot to boil water in if needed. The only advantage these filters have is they claim to get rid of metals and other toxins. I really wish sawyer or some other company would bring out a filter that gets rid of metals that isnt so spendy. They would would make a lot of money and help out people that dont have big budgets to buy gear with. Pretty much all water has metals in it now days thanks to all the spraying they have been doing to save us from the global warming. Its all a massive deception to take more of our money while destroying our earth and making us sick. Big pharma makes massive profits from it as well.
Competition would be a good thing. There is a similar and pretty much clone model on the internet that is cheaper but until I see the data backing up their claim as doing just as well if not better, I'm not getting it.
I saw where the titanium version was for sale on Amazon for $180.00, while the plastic version was $100.00. I have the plastic version and like it. I do wish it purified 1 liter, but it is what it is. I agree and do no see the $80.00 difference in value with the titanium.
The titanium version is a joke. When I see these survivalist channels pushing it, it makes me lose all respect for that channel.
You’re watching a survivalist channel. I think the whole point of the titanium cup is for boiling water if you “had” to.
I think I'm going to stick with my Kelly kettle
Got to keep the business rolling
Now you own two
In short... this product makes no sense.
I'd rather just have a long titanium cup which fits the outside of the plastic version.
