    This season inspired me to create more stylized interior design, with a nice cartoon flat shading. The eevee render engine is ideal for this kind of look, no need to bother GPU with light bounces :)

    hey i like the style you work with blender. I dont work with it yet, but want to learn it, thats why i found your video here. But i have a question. On the spots where you add the breaked wood you put in new polygons on it, but I saw a lot of N-gons in your final models, isnt that a no go? I work with 3ds Max and if there is a polygon with 5 vertexes our prof always says its a no-go. I just saw a lot of people who work with blender, doesnt care about something like n-gons, thats why i ask..

    • @polygonrunway
      @polygonrunway  4 роки тому

      Hi! It really depends on the workflow. I do mostly low poly illustrations that end up as static renders so I use a lot of Ngos and dont care about them :D When it comes to animation, or doing more complex geometry that uses subdivision for example, it's of course ideal to have a clean topology made of quads. So your prof probably means that :)

      In my degree and 1st job in the animation studios I only used Maya. Came to new office and they had only Blender as its free. I thought I will buy Maya but its way costly plus I cannot collaborate. When I started Blender, I was so confused but luckily Blender 2.8 has a feature that turn your shortcuts to those in Industry softwares (Max, Maya).
      I found modelling in blender feels so smooth and free as compared to Max or Maya. Give it a try on a weekend. Look for a tutorial starting from basics. Remember, use the 2.8 version of blender :P

    Hey, I loved the video, I just started with 3D modelling and watching it gave me a lot of pointers on what's possible and how to do it efficiently (ex: the rocks around the cauldron). Btw, what are you using to record these? (does it have a feature to display mouse input, or did you add that with another software?). I feel like being able to record with mouse inputs easily could help me post my issues on stackoverflow nicely. Thx.

      Hi, I'm glad you find my videos useful. I record with OBS and the shortcuts are actually a Blender addon from Jayanam (Shortcut VUr)

    I'm not a 3D modeler but sometimes I used some 3D modeling so I have just one question: you copied a lot of times objects with the same aspect (like the floor and the staircase), but I know that exists an object that lets multiplicate objects keeping the ability to choose their position (it should be called array modifier), why you don't use it?

    • @polygonrunway
      @polygonrunway  4 роки тому +2

      For the stairs I actually used array modifier, just did the frist two steps because of the variation. And that basically answers your question, I did a lot of variation after duplicating, so these single objects dont look so similar :)

    Greetings Polygon Runway - Thank you for making this! I'm trying to follow along and get a little confused when re-creating the fire for the torch. Can you explain a bit more in detail about your process for making that, and in particular, what you're doing between 51:36 - 52:05? Thank you in advance :)

      I'm mapping a color ramp to texture coordinates to create a nice color gradient resembling flame

    Thank you for this video! is there a possibility of a real time version? Did this use ambient occlusion? For some reason I cant get my scene too look like yours where yours has distinct separation from shadow to light or one plane to another my buildings indentations are invisible because they blend in as the same color surrounding it.

    • @polygonrunway

      You can slow down the video in youtube player ;) Check it out. Yes, there is ambient occlusion active in this scene. (I do not use it in cycles though, there it works differently)

    For anyone interested, when trying to solve problems like what is shown at 4:40 (where you need to select every other edge on the pot) it is helpful to use the Checker Deselect command (docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/curves/selecting.html#checker-deselect). If you select the Edge ring first (docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/meshes/selecting.html#edge-ring) then do a Check Deselect you can select every other edge quickly without having to click each edge manually. Checkout this video by FlippedNormals for a more detailed video explanation on the topic ua-cam.com/video/EO-ikIsVdIo/v-deo.html.
