You fail to take into account how fatigued Rama would have been at this point in the fight thus increasing the perceived effectiveness of said individual.
Machete's gang leader actually is good hand-to-hand combatant. The way he was fighting with Rama unarmed proves he can beat average man.
He even lift Rama's body weight, he even did better without his machete because when he had his machete he was getting bodied but when he lost it he started giving Rama a rough time.
But once he picked that machete again he went lost all that😭. Like hand to hand made him take it more seriously, but once he got the machete he felt an easier victory.
@@capnbetty3820 these wide slashes made him vulnerable for Rama's grips and armlocks. In hand to hand he can actually take advantage of his strengh and fight less predictably.
He might looks scary here but in real life he is a comedian lmao
2:22 After many years I just notice now that Rama cut the guy on the face at the same spot like the guy did to him earlier in hiding in wall scene.
Literally just noticed that as well, nice
Me too lol

I watched this when it came out, and honestly even on the big screen everything happened so fast I felt like I had a hard time wrapping my head around This whole movie, I kinda felt like I had been thrown at a wall or two myself, but I've kept training in martial arts over the years, and I watched it like 50 times before realizing how brilliant and awesome this was. And also the main character does an awesome job of playing someone on a classified mission, who also expresses thought like a human experiencing what he is doing and accomplishing.
Rama tries to avoid the fight with armed guys first. When he gets cornered, he tries to disarm the opponents and hinder their movement. He resorts to killing them when it becomes certain that there's no other option, but still he regrets it (the guy who dies at the door).
Great observation.
I thought that it was a face of shock, not regret.
@@snnnaaaaaakeeeee4470 It's a mix of both, but mostly regret as he just had to kill him, it's either the guy or him
@@YTraveler a cop isn't supposed to deliver death to criminals.
@@klockenberg2299 that depends
I love how he runs towards the guys to give himself distance to retreat if needed.
One thing i love about Gareth Evans directing is that, he makes the 1 vs more guys fights interesting and logical, in other action movie fighting scene, u can see the other waiting in the background, meanwhile in this movie u can see that the other are hurting and quickly fights again and the protagonist immobilize them 1 by 1
One of the greatest fight scenes in movie history. This is truly a masterpiece.

Funny, I saw that scene just a couple of videos ago.
Spot on....good línea.*
3:43 that gut punch was godlike
The guy swinging the machete always cracks me up… he’s got some serious hand agility to be able to throw that many swings at a fast rate
Try search vids with certain words 'tawuran bacok'.
School kids fight ritual in Indonesia.
You may see many fast swings like that in real street fights.
No technique, just lust for a kill.
"You don't want to make me upset. If I get upset...I could lash out." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fact that the last dude is actually doing better without his machete. And suddenly lost the moment he take his weapon back.
Well yeah usually you got an upperhand in fight if you hold weapon maybe that what he thinking
Agree
He picked it up because he probably knew a prolonged hand to hand 1 on 1 isn't going to work in his favor lol
Guy just dropped a whole floor of cokeheads. You'd pick up ya weapon too lmao
@@fahrulbaidavi4025
In real life, it is expected that whoever wields a knife or any kind of weapon against a barehanded guy gains the upper hand, until that barehanded dodges and counters every single attack.
Fun Fact: It takes 6 consecutive days, from 6 a.m. until 2 a.m. the following day, to film a 3-minute hallway scene
What a hidden gem Raid 1 was. Its not only about action and choreography, the camera movement and shots were also superb
As much a masterpiece as Raid 1 is, Raid 2 is even better
both are best action films ever
I love how he didn't take the vest off, in some action movies, a lot of characters took their vest off because it's "too heavy" or just "I'm tough I don't need it".
Rama seems fresh with the vest
That saved him from machete back slash
And when he does take it off, it's purely instinctive and practical as he's completely winded and can't breathe.
Lol just after this fight he took it off
@@klockenberg2299 probably cause he was winded and couldn't breathe. You can see him physically struggling to breath as a vest weight on your chest is really uncomfortable. He literally fell from a couple stories, I'd feel pretty winded if I was also wearing the armor.
4:16 that combo was so cool
4:17 is just pure poetry
Damn, my adrenaline level going up just from watching this scene.
Watch Iko Uwais vs. Joe Taslim from The Night Comes For Us. That got my adrenaline pumping more than most scenes from this movie.
Same
Same, testosterone too
This is my pre-workout 😂
I was just about to say, these movies can get you pumped up man, Iko awais and the crew do a phenomenal job in these fight scenes.
This scene blew my mind when i first saw this movie. The fact that he started out not wanting to fight them to completely obliterating them..
Love how main character’s first instinct is to get the hell out of there. He is an action hero but that little details makes it feel more realistic which makes the scene more relatable and therefore interesting to the viewer
Love how Gareth brings humanity to even random fodder characters as Rama clearly threw that dudes brother or something over the ledge and he was heartbroken.
Yeah, I appreciated that too.
@1.22: The expression in Uwais' face tells everything...one last frantic effort to open the door at the end of the alleyway and then the sheer determination to fight the ungodly goons.
Uwais looks handsome, in addition to being a highly skilled martial artist!
4:15 the best finisher ive ever seen

i never get tired of this scene, the 2:45 kill is something new.
Literal splinter neck
He was just trying to smack him down to the floor but he came to a realization that he almost got himself killed doing that if he didn't jump further and also his realization when he brutally murdered the criminal
Even I would be shocked for doing that unexpected thing
@@guts-141 i know its fake, but i just felt it was wrong xd

Dead Meat would like that
The thing I love about this movie is that almost all the grunts are decent martial artists 😂
And sometimes they actually get back to the fight if theyre not getting beaten up enough before
Yeah, that's what I loved about it, it was straight forward and quick
The best hand to hand fight scenes of all time. No other movies come close to this.
The gruesome scenes in the raid are so insane it makes me praise the production crew for how realistic and crazy thw stunts are
I must say this is the realest scene I've ever seen. When you meet someone with machete, the first thing you need to do is run
That door kill will FOREVER be ingrained in my memory.
His fighting style is very realistic.
It's a martial arts style called Pencak Silat. Very practical and deadly in a fight. Oddly enough, it won't seem so, in its dancing “kata” form.
@@bhoqeem1975 I think any higher art is going to look beautiful when it's disconnected from the practical reason for it in a real sense. If you're not fighting anyone it's just dancing beautifully. Haha
Not really

This whole movie feels like a video game and has a bunch of stuff happening in it that would work really well if it did get an adaption. Having to avoid the windows or be met with a rain of bullets, enemies spawning from all the rooms, characters like the Machete Men, and Maddog serving as bosses. The 2nd movie having even more neat bosses like bat man, hammer girl, and the assassin. Prakoso coulda been like DLC content where we see his perspective and his fights. Idk, I just love these movies, wish they had some games like it

2:46 this shot almost makes me think Rama wasn't expecting to kill that guy when he did that.
I think it’s to show that he realizes the dude was a kid. Bastard kid but still it enhances how gruesome it is

All these while inwas thinking the Chinese are the masters in action choreography. But after seeing this movie. It proved me wrong. Hats off to the Indonesian choreographers. All those who are involved innmaking this movie. The Raid 🙏
Those wild swings are what made this film so much more better than most films.
Uwais is better than any famous actors! The guy deserves more attention! Props to all the people who were involved in this masterpiece!🔥
Some people here complaining about all the screaming but they forget that these guys are crazy drug dealers and are full of adrenaline because of that, some of them lost their brothers too because rama killee them in previous fights, so how are they supposed not to be angry and screaming around.

It's sad how Hollywood never used Iko's talent properly by ruining his incredible choreography with a bunch of shaky cam and quick cut editing. Iko is one of few actor stars who's willing enough to do everything himself on screen, why even bother give him those two action clichés that wasted his talent? They should really take notes from The Raid in making a competent action scene
They did?

Whoever came up with that door frame shot is a fricken genius and deserves waaaaaaaaaaaay more recognition
I just love how every single kick, punch, and slam in this movie is like a mini explosion. So satisfying.
Everyone of his attackers knew how to fight and were very tenacious. No regular citizen would've survived an encounter with this group.

Another scene in the movie which shows just how much of a formidable fighter Rama is. The Machete gang was brutal but Rama also kept a cool head as a tough opponent and nailed them all in the end.🔥
This fight scene made my blood pumping, never knew pencak silat would be this cool and deadly at the same time.
