  • I put a wire antenna up recently that has a high feed-point impedance so I thought I would knock up a 9:1 Un-Un...

I guess I'm late to the party! That's a fine looking wind there... very tidy. As others wrote, I was wondering about the core composition. I've read that Mix 2, 43, and 61 are useful for the ham bands. Now I think I want to play a little bit with winding some Ununs and maybe some Baluns as well.
I'd like to measure the efficiency as well. I'll have to do a little research on that.
Beware of hamfest torroid buys. That's tantamount to buying a pig in a poke!

Thanks. Have not used a torroids for antenna work, but may do so in the future.

Nice SWR meter you have there. Normal 1mm building wire will be OK but the enameld copper can take higher temps. Are you still active in amateur radio?👍🤓

To all who dream of red iron powder toroids, these are not suitable for baluns and ununs!!! The permability is much too low, these are only suitable for inductors and resonance circuits. For an unun transformer you need a toroid of material 61-43 and for 160m maybe 31 material.

Did you check your ,,450,, ohm pot ? Is it resistive only ?

Hi, would be interested in the wire lenght you recommend as different wire lenghts might give different SWR readings.

I'm afraid I have no idea, I just wound it on and cut off the excess.

Hello. Wish to Made a un un 9:1 for 160 m and 80 m band. Should i use a ft240/77 toroid with same coils?

Not sure on that one. It's a while since I looked at baluns. Google should get you the info you need.

I think using house wire is ok. I have some with magnet wire, and insulated stranded wire. I believe that solid is suggested.
Next effort try a T200-2 toroid. Some recommend a ferrite material but iron core also works. N1XGH

good one mate, for the toroids what u have there are EMI ferrites with permeability more than 5000, what u need is an amidon or micrometals grade 43 toroids, with permeability 850....all the best, de vu3sxn / kc3cwd

Use toroid T130-2 or T106-2 Powdered Iron Core

Use less turn to have resonance on high bands, you need only 7-8 turns and you have 10 on yours, too much.

You need a red colour-coded toroid. Jim ZS6JMB

Thanks Jim. I did re-try this and found it to be ok.
