you know a movie is old when it has that deep ass voice narrating over it
+Jalen Orange yeah, really! I mean for goodness sake it's only from 2004 and it has that 1990 cheesy narrators voice!
Jalen Orange Haha makes me think of the Honest Trailers guy's voice
Its Don LaFontaine (voice actor), he narrates/voice-over hundred of films from 90s to 2000s. He died on 2008
And you also know it's old when you've got Staind playing in the background ;)
You know a movie's old when you look at the year it was made and it's old
._.
"You can't change who people are without destroying who they were" damn that's deep.
Tyler Crane, yes it is very meaningful ;)
123SpiceOld well I could understand that nothing could change you cause you're stupid....yea...I don't...I don't think there's hope for stupid people....

This trailer is so 1999 for 2004.
I agree!
jc13jach3 1999= the matrix, fight club, American Beauty, The insider, being John Malcovich..
1999 was King of movies.. still is to this day.
Lol yes I was wondering why it looked so very old
Now looks even older😅
So is the movie
If this movie came out today, it would be a hit. Way above it's time
because most movies after 2010 suck

@@Mood_Slime11 I gave you a like. Because words matter. ☹
I like the meaning of this movie. Whatever happens, you can never change it, no matter how hard you try. The hardest thing to do is accept it, but it is also the easiest.
Tasia Boldyreva final destination
reminds me of the anime steins' gate...its more of a psychological thriller than its an anime...if you like this you'll definitely like that.
I know everyone interprets the movie differently, but you’re so off. Evan changed the past, thus changing the future. The whole point of the movie is that you never know what’s gonna happen when you make a choice because even the choices that seem so insignificant can have extreme consequences. That’s the actual definition of the butterfly effect.
Maybe, it's not like "you can never change it, no matter how hard you try". I mean you life is yours...you can change it any time. Tomorrow, you wake up and take a knife, then go somewhere and kill someone. THE MEANING of the movie, and the DEEP message in there is more like: "You Can Change Everything, But Can You Accept The Consecuenses Of Your Acts?". In the movie the protagonist can make everything different all the time, but he can not fight the changes, also life is similar, We make decisions everyday...but we don't know how that will evolve in the future, like a "Butterfly effect"...or something like that...e.e
The movie falls in line with the Grandfather paradox. If you go back in time to kill yourself and you don't exist, doesn't that also mean if you don't ever exist that you won't be able to go back in time to prevent your birth?
Most underrated movie ever!
Yes I totally agree
Çisel A Totally agree.
I now kind of agree
Çisel A definitely agree
It wouldnt be if they had a better script and good actors. It had a lot of potential to be a better film.
When you think of the concept of this film, it’s truly terrifying as it, in a way, shows us that even if you have the power to change your past, doing so can have results far worse than the ones you want to change in the first place.
Yep
For example if someone were to do ANYTHING to WW2, then when the Cold War happens with the US and Russia the 3 captains of that one submarine could've been completely different, there's a chance all 3 would've agreed to launch the nuke instead of 1 saying no like what actually happened. It's a possibility albeit slim that by stopping a war that kills roughly 10 million you cause an all out nuclear war that kills way more

One of those mindfuck movies i can watch countles times and never gets bored.
i just came from whatching it . again. prolly 10s of times i've watched it over the years. the last moment when he gets back to his foetus form and chokes himself to death always had me in tears.
There's not many movies that bring me to the brink of tears, this was one of them. I kinda like how this wasn't a happy ending cliche but still a somewhat good ending for every character involved
Not the director's cut ending, that's the real one and it's pretty depressing
"You were happy once... with me..."
i felt that
Sounds sad..

Trailer doesn't do the actual movie justice, but eh, that's old trailers for you. The movie itself takes a more sentimental approach and really puts emphasis on human behaviour and psychology.
A rather underrated movie in my opinion, I'd definitely recommend it!
I totally agree, I was just going to comment that the trailer doesn't do justice to the movie
Yeah but new trailers show the whole frrkkking movie these days. I hate that even more. Why bother at that point.
True, that's why I prefer teaser trailers haha
Bout to say the same thing!
This film is horrible. Sloppy as heck and boring as crap. The trailers were better
this movie is sick. a master piece. go and watch it now.
Okay
Absolutely!
Finally, someone who agrees that this was a fascinating movie. Like in all science-fiction you have to accept some things to be true, or else you will be sighing through the entire movie angry at what is going on, and you will not enjoy it. Then, if you are going to do that, then don't bother watching it at all.

Yeah, there were some directing flaws in the film, but the movie is still enjoyable and brought that good psychological thrill to the viewers. And the idea of this time travel combined with the Butterfly Effect is *awesome,* and that's the main reason why many people like the movie.

I'd love to see Ashton in more serious roles where he adds some comedy here and there, just like in this gem. Definitely his theatrical strength.

This movie shocked me and at the ending i cried and i have a paranoia about my daily life now i never wanted this movie to end fuck i can't explain my feeling right now cause i'm so paranoid, this movie is so deep and it's not just a movie. Just watched this again this year after like 4 times and guess what?
were you all aware there are 4 alternate endings?
From wikipedia
Alternate endings[edit]
The Butterfly Effect has four different endings:
The theatrical ending shows Evan passing Kayleigh on the sidewalk, he sees her, and recognizes her, but keeps walking.
The "happy ending" alternate ending shows Evan and Kayleigh stopping on the sidewalk when they cross paths. They introduce themselves and Evan asks her out for coffee.[15]
The open-ended alternate ending is similar to the one where Evan and Kayleigh pass each other on the sidewalk and keep walking, except this time Evan, after hesitating, turns and follows Kayleigh.[16] This ending was utilized in the film's novelization, written by James Swallow and published by Black Flame.
The director's cut alternate ending shows Evan turning on the home movies, only this time instead of watching a home movie at a neighborhood gathering, he's watching the video of his own birth. He travels back to when he is about to be born and commits suicide by strangling himself with his own umbilical cord. Therefore he was never there to change the timeline in the first place and explains why Evan's mother had two still-born children before him.
Never knew that, why did the Film get the weird ending lol
I like the original ending. The committing suicide with the umbilical cord is stupid
@@telekinesis1007 That was the original ending. It's supposed to explain the stillbirths before Kelso.
oh I just saw the one with him commiting suicide :(

Watched this as a kid countless times, now as an adult I just still can’t comprehend how this life can be unchangeable and everything that happened just is
Seen this movie 10+ times & it never gets old. It was my introduction to Ashton Kutcher, as I never watched that 70s show. I still love the movie.
The most soul breaking thing was how everytime he changed his life it remained a tragedy but in a different way
The absolute BEST movie Ashton ever did in my opinion
The Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko were my favorite time travel movies growing up!

The butterfly effect is one of my favorite films. this is my favorite quote:
" It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world..."
After watching this movie, I feel that the trailer does not show that's it's more than a simple love story. I'm glad they no longer have those voice overs in trailers. +Winona Daphne Hey Jhope, whats up XD

Maybe the reason people gave this movie such bad reviews was because it came out in 2004, but Ashton Kutcher gave a heartfelt, convincing, and truly beautiful performance in this movie. I watched this movie for the first time when i was about 7 or 8 and it scared the crap out of me but left an impact because my young mind was to confused to understand anything that was going on. I've revisited this movie many times since then now that I am older, and always makes wonder about life and whose life I am directly and indirectly affecting, would everyone be better off without me? Such a profound thought. This movie is one of my favorite movies and everyone who has watched it that grew up in my generation and is my age now(20) loves it. I think we all are just familiar with Ashton, and now know he can play more serious roles which wasn't the case of initial critics thoughts in 2004 because they still thought of him as the funny kid from the seventies show and went in the theater with a negative outlook. Great Plot, The female role who plays Kaylee, played by Amy smart gives an amazing performance as well.
Makes me smile seen comments of kids like you who saw it too and now rewatched it. I also saw it as a kid, but now that I rewatched the movie, it’s freaking amazing and incredible. The message, the pain, the idea and what could’ve been. I always recommend it when people ask me about movies like Looper, Terminator, Predestination, etc

The most fucked up part of this movie is how he is trying to save all his friends. But he never tries to save his dog. Poor dog :(
Fred Potter SPOILERS dont spoil them movie but yeah that was the saddest part ;_;
By saving his friends he did save his dog.
Matthew Blake Except he ended up screwing his friends even more since the only reality I know of is Tommy freeing the dog and then...yeah...it just went downhill from there.
