FILM DESCRIPTION:
Final Destination 2 screenwriters Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber make their directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller The Butterfly Effect. Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher with facial hair) wants to free himself from his disturbing childhood memories. As a kid, he often blacked out for long periods of time and tried to detail his life in a journal. As a young adult, he revisits the journal entries to figure out the truth about his troubled childhood friends Kayleigh (Amy Smart), Lenny (Elden Henson), and Tommy (William Lee Scott). When he discovers he can travel back in time in order to set things right, he tries to save his beloved friends. However, he finds out that relatively minor changes can make major problems for the future. The Butterfly Effect also stars Eric Stoltz, Ethan Suplee, and Melora Walters. The title was inspired by the story A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.

You gotta love the fact that this movie had balls, not shying away from anything unpleasant. Underrated gem.
If it was done today people would be boycotting, the director and Ashton Kutcher.
Vanilladye nah they will if they find out.. but this movie wasn’t popular enough to get attention.. like toy story 2 had a scene with the old farmer cowboy tryna pick up the 2 barbie doll cuz stupid ass people went back to it and made it controversial

One of the best scenes in the movie. I love how his voice changes, he really does sound like an adult in a child’s body.
Kinda makes me wonder how the director got the kid to say those lines.

@@johndough5192😂😂
@@johndough5192BURN!!(Kelso voice) lol
@@MythicSunsIf you mean how he managed to have the lines performed so effectively, it’s a combination of just, of course, really solid acting (Lerman was one of those actors who was just sharp right out of the gate, even as a child actor), alongside a director actually doing a major part of his/her job, which, believe it or not, a lot don’t. There’s a lot of directors that will just get totally wrapped up in, and so only focus on, things like the visuals/backgrounds/camera angles/appearance of the set, which naturally are highly important as well, but also why you have people like cinematographers, set designers etc and why working with skilled ones is so important. A huge part of what a director is meant to be doing that often goes overlooked, especially these days, is actually DIRECTING the actors, working with them to express and try and get them to feel the emotions the characters are meant to be feeling in the scene, considering motivations, and through all that, helping to pull out the skilled performance they had in them from the start, by channeling it. Wow, I did not intend for this to be so long. No one is going to read this. I apologize for my rambles

+MannyKnosey18 The acting is very important and I can say that I am surprised of how amazingly Ashton Kutcher played his role as Evan! I never liked him in anything else besides That 70 Shows. But it's like with Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine... some "comedians" are shockingly good at playing a serious role in such deep movies.

Now if Evan hadn't called Tommy a Sadistic fuck, but instead said he needs to be a loving father to both children instead of just one, then this would have been the best outcome for Evans life.
Never understood why Evan never went back to this moment to correct that mistake.

Every time I see Tommy, my heart breaks.. That was me... the late 90s...
Not a joke. Every victim has a different story. And, what might sound vague, is the tip of an iceberg. Listen. Believe your kids.
Evan messes up again. Just tell their father to treat both children equally. Things could have worked out okay. Your dooming Tommy even more. Also, why does Kayleigh grows up happy and acts like everything perfect in this timeline even though Tommy still commits his sadistic acts also makes zero sense. Yeah, I get she desperately wants to be with Evan, but still, you would think those events would still have an effect.
This is so true there really are some parents out there that just won't listen to their kids though and that unfortunately can stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Makes you wonder what their dad went through to become what he is.
@@Mushroom_moon_stirfry He was most likely molested as a young child, it's pretty common with most cases. I've been studying a lot of psychology as I was coming to terms with my childhood. That could be the case, or he's just one sick individual. Evan makes a lot of mistakes along the way, but I think he ends up learning from them along the way. Not everything will be perfect. They'll always be some kind of consequence. By the end of the film, he realizes he rather just simply let her go, which is heartbreaking enough but he just wanted her to be happy.
@@wanderinginthewoods_sam Contrary to popular belief, many are born that way and don’t recall any abuse in their history. Some are deluded and believe they can have relationships with kids.
This is like the dark, live-action version of the scene in Toy Story where Sid's toys and Woody threaten Sid. Evan is Woody's counterpart; Kayleigh is Buzz' counterpart, and Mr. Miller is Sid's counterpart.

The sequels are just irrelevant, this one is just fantastic, this scene is powerful. I don't understand why Evan didn't mention Tommy maybe it could be too easy to solve the issue or screenplay problems.
Sequel?!
At this point in the film, Evan wasn't aware that Tommy was still in the room, and the act that stopped kayleigh from being abused anymore was her father hearing his own daughter tell him in such anger to never touch her again, the same could not happen with Tommy as as far as Evan knew, he had supposedly left the room. And by the time he realised Tommy was there, he already had time travelled enough times to where it was starting to damage his brain, and he also feared that it would just cause something else to occur instead.
I love it. I wish this would be possible in real life for every children that has to suffer.

“How are you doing this?” This movie snapped! Imagine if everyone could speak up for themselves like this
This movie is so good
It was a decent movie but the plot holes are irritating once you really look at all the flaws
What plot holes? The only plot hole I know is when he proves to his prison partner that he can travel through time
@@radioactive06 More or less flaws that dont make much sense. He remembers all of the events that happened and when he realized how telling the dad to never touch her again changed it so she was never abused, he could have went back and told the father to never touch EITHER of them and treat them right.
When he got his arms blowm off because of the mail box explosion, and the other guy became a angel for saving someine, he could have went back again snd this time warn the lady but stay the hell away from the mail box.
When his dog got burned alive and he gave the fat kid the shard, why does he still get knocked around with the wooden board even though he KNOWS whats going to happen. Why didnt he just keep the shard to defend himself or grabbed a brick or something to throe at the kids head when they was about to catch up to him?
Also yeah the proving his powers didnt make sense cause im pretty sure a Kid purposely stabbing his hands like that would change his future. Also when he was back, he could have told the teacher about the father being abusive and could have got him arrested or something.
Also I thought no one else can remember the time changes but him.
For me its like in games when you make a save and go through ALOT of bullshit during a quest, but once you realize what you could do better and avoid it, just load it back up and make very different choices to effect the outcome.

It's a shame he only told the father to harshly discipline the son, and not find a way to care for & love him too. If you remember this contributed to a major pivotal point of the movie.

Ashton Kutcher is such a bad actor. But, The Butterfly Effect was such a disturbing movie and the basement scene was truly one of the most disturbing scenes of the entire movie.
He actually did pretty good in this
This kid is Logan Lerman
Ashton is the 20 year old Evan
I thought the Dad was Crispin Glover. Why does he ask "How are you doing this?" His disbelief makes no sense. There's nothing supernatural happening.
Because he knows no six yr old has that type of adult logic and understanding.
So when kid Evan speaks to him in such a forward and mature manner,he knows that the boy is not his normal self.He seems to think that Evan is being possessed by some outside entity, that is sending him a message.
In reality it's just adult Evans consciousness possessing his six yr old self.
But i think any normal humans mind would drift to 'he's being possessed by something',rather then considering any form of time travel.
It's better this way really.
If George knew it was just Evan from the future,he probably wouldn't have taken it nearly as seriously.
But it seems making him think God,the devil,or some higher power was always watching him worked as a far better deterrent to making him leave Kayleigh alone.
