      Be warned, this video is almost complete fabrication. There were only 28 casualties in Fort McHenry, 24 wounded and 4 killed. Francis Scott Key wrote the star spangled banner after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry (NOT fort "Henry") Mr Key went privately to secure the release of one friend, he was NOT sent to represent anyone else. The bombardment of Fort McHenry was in 1814 the United States was a sovereign nation recognized by the British government. Return to British rule was not an objective of the British. Fort McHenry was most definitely a military installation with a garrison of 1,000 soldiers and no civilians. There were only 19 Royal Navy ships present. There wasn't even a single ship of the line, and HMS Victory alone represents nearly as much firepower as the squadron at Fort McHenry.

    Francis Scott Key did write the song after he witnessed the attack. I don't know if every detail is correct, but it is probably pretty close. In 2005, I was in Iraq. A rocket hit 190 feet from us. It was 0500, so still dark. We got into a bunker. The container it hit was burning and blown up. The flames illuminated the smoke as it was pouring out of the cargo container. As I peered out of the bunker and saw that scene, the sun was just starting to give us some morning light. My mind went to the Nation Anthem. I thought, " Wouldn't it be perfect if we had a flag at out tent compound, with the fire and smoke. The explosion was deafening. This is one reason this song means so much to me.

      Actually "Francis Scott Key wrote the star spangled banner after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry" is the ONLY thing accurate about the video.

      While rooted in actual events, as told in the video there are a fair amount of details inaccurate, plausibly a collection of errors/embellishments common to oral stories being retold. Granted it this seems may have been recorded many years ago, the internet and search engines have made it much simpler to check details of events now. Only 19 ships were involved in the siege, only four people died in the fort that night, the name of the fort is actually Fort McHenrey, who knows how much the quotes shifted, guns and rockets of the early 1800s were pretty inaccurate so the majority missed the fort entirely, and you would be lucky to hit the fort if you aimed at a flagpole in the center of it in darkness. It also seems pretty doubtful that even if they did destroy or take the fort that it would have been the end of the war.
      Plus there is some inherent contradictions, like the bodies were being cycled out as they died, but like a sentence later stated what bodies were holding it up at an odd angle.

    It's all about freedom. Once you've tasted it, you can't go back. That's why that flag is so important, so precious. That's why these words are written in the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."     Very nicely done! I watch a lot of reaction channels, and yours is one of the best! I love your honesty and the feeling that you display when listening. Thank you for the enjoyment that I feel when watching your reactions. I grew up in a small town in Oregon and lived there all my life. The only time I was away from home was when I was drafted into the US Army. I went to Vietnam and received a disability and I live with that. But I love my country and was proud to serve in the Army. I am now 74 and still lve in Oregon, and every time I hear the National Anthem I am moved by it!

      Thank you for your service in Vietnam and for your sacrifice. I graduated high school in June of 1973 just after all the combat troops were withdrawn so I just missed the war.

    True story. They used to teach this to every school kid when I was growing up in the 1970's. We would also stand with our right hand over our hearts, each morning before class, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Ah, the good ol' days.

    Mostly true, there may not have been hundreds of British Ships (accounts differ) but True, I think the word you were searching for at the end was Patriotism… a good one to react to is “Crowd sings when mic goes out during the National Anthem

    Some of the story is exaggerated it wasn't hundreds of British ships but a few dozen. The part about Francis Scott Key being held prisoner overnight and demanding their surrender by taking the flag down is also true. Also true that Francis Scott Key wrote the poem and that during the night the only way to see the flag is when the bombs went off. The flag that flew over Forth McHenry is in the Smiithsonian Institute Museum. You seemed like it was a fairy tale story. Some things are but this has alot of truth in it.

    Yes, very much a true story. I don't know all the details but they say around 20 people died in the fort. A typical fort probably had maybe 100 people or less total. Many died keeping that flag lifted. The flag was knocked down several times in the night by canon fire. Each time a brave patriot risked his life and ran out of cover to pick the flag up again and raise it throughout the night.

      "typical fort"? The average coastal defense fort for a major harbor (Norfolk, Baltimore, NY, Philadelphia, Charleston etc.) during wartime would be over 1,000 not 100, and only 4 people were killed at Fort McHenry. Oh, and explain to me how men held up a flagpole 9 stories high weighing over a ton? Basically this story is complete hogwash.

    I've watched this video several times to see others reactions. They don't understand what the flag and anthem mean to us until they hear this story. Our flag and anthem are a testament to our forefathers who have died in honor of our country and its peoples. It also explains why it is a federal offense for the flag to touch the ground. That instance constitutes surrender, something we Americans are not familiar with.

    This is an oral tradition. In fact Key was on a truce ship which sailed to the fort to negotiate the release of the elderly Dr. William Beanes. There was no communication between the British and the forces inside the fort. They just started bombing when they were in place. The British prisoner ships were six miles offshore and did not participate in the bombing. He successfully secured the elderly man's release and was on the British ship when the bombardment began. When it was over he used a spyglass across that six miles to see the result and saw the flag still waving. When he got back he wrote the poem.

    This is the British who were fighting with the French and the Americans sided with the French this isn't FortNenry which is in Tennessee this is Fort McHenry in Baltimore in the war of 1812

    Far as I know the stories true there was a slight exaggeration as to how many ships were there but from what I heard everything else was true

    I know you have nothing to do or say about what's happening in Ukraine, but this should make you think. If you have the chance to read the American constitution, you should.     I cant atop thinking of this video while watching the Ukranian invasion. They are fighting with everything to remain Ukrainian. So many children have been maimed or killed in five days already.

    The original video is filled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations of the truth. Just a few examples. Key went to negotiate the release of one prisoner. It was not the full might of the British navy it was about 20 ships. Also the flag was not held up by the dead. There were 4 people killed in the battle. It was most definitely a military fort it was protecting the harbor. History is good enough we don't need to embellish it.
