I love Steak N’ Shake and, I grew upon Steak N’ Shake. I love the milk shakes and bean crocks/ baked beans, I think these 2 are big hit next to their burgers but, over 3 yrs ago during a recession they changed where they were using cheaper produce that tasted awful. I haven’t been back since. They also changed our local Steak N’ Shake and, I have heard that people have had one problem after another with it. And, said by the time you order and get your food and get to a table they said, the food ends up getting cold. And, they can no longer reheat your food.

It was always reheated, frozen garbage with clever marketing that used meaningless terms like “clean” and “antibiotic and hormone free” ( by law, all poultry served must be free from antibiotics and hormones), but now even the lettuce and produce is weeks old. They also “accidentally” leave out half the the ingredients, especially on take out orders. This is not just one restaurant. This is all 5 Paneras within half an hour of my house. It must be corporate policy.
I had been a loyal Steak and Shake customer for 30 years. Always good and fast with a great selection. Now they have incompetent staff, slow service and then they decide to eliminate half their selection. The chicken strips were exceptional. Their melts were good. My GF and I ate there often because we both found things we liked. Now it’s a burger or nothing. We don’t go often and don’t spend as much. The current owners will likely end up destroying another iconic company by letting the wrong people make the decisions.
Southern Illinois native here. Steak N Shake is so delicious! My husband and I usually get food from there at least once a month, maybe more if we’re feeling a particular craving. The Garlic Butter steakburger is one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had. Pair that with one of their signature milk shakes and you are in for a good time.
Steak'N Shake is among my fondest boyhood memories. My sister and I ate there every Thursday evening because our Mom worked late. There was one, a quarter of a mile from my junior high school. I ate there every time that I could afford it. Alas, I moved to Alaska. I dream about a Steak burger and Shake, but when I do get to one nowadays the atmosphere and food is slightly different. I am 78 and still lust for a burger from Steak'N Shake from when the Bell's owned it.

I like their burgers, but those shoestring French Fries are a complete waste of time and money. By the time they hit your table they are already stone cold since they don't have the mass necessary to retain any heat.
The store in Michigan city, In. Was my go to burger place for years. I knew 2 of the night managers. I liked the seat by the flattop and made friends with the grill guy Terry. Then before covid bad labor forced them into frequent temporary closures. Then it lost the managers,then closed and a new owner now. Went thru terrible labor bad waits. I don't know if they are better I lost interest.
NEVER eat at the location in Covington, LA. It will make you not like Steak N Shake. If the company cares about the brand they should shut this location down.
I always thought it was because they made money off of those who have to wait a long time in the drive thru lanes. It seems I’m always in the drive thru for 30 mins or more.
I always knew that keeping things simple with great taste, would be an ideal way to run a restaurant ! I can't imagine having a complicated menu with way too many choices !
Steak 'n Shake is about the best national burger chain drive-thru. Only slightly better is In N Out, which is limited to the West, and Whataburger, limited to the South. If you need a burger just like you want it, with grilled onions (for instance), you cannot get that from McD, BK, Carl's, etc.
Maybe Steak and Shake might be better than other fast food places, but they still sell too many of their sandwiches and drinks that are high in sugar content and wonder why there are so many that are overweight, diabetic or pre-diabetic now. I dont know how good of quality the hamburger is just by itself, but I would not eat them. Never been to a Steak and Shake, and dont plan to in the future.

I thought happy hour lasted until 5pm on weekdays. I went a couple days ago & was there at 4:30pm & had to pay full price. I'm almost certain I was there a couple weeks earlier after 4 & did get one at half price. Must have changed since the new year began. I also noticed they added a scanner for the soda machine. You have to scan your receipt now for the soda to come out. I ordered a $5 deal & honestly don't know if it came with a drink or not. I just settled for water. Sad the 24 meals for 4 bucks is a thing of the past. Now all they have is 4 meals for 5 bucks.
Steak ‘n Shake used to offer a foot-long steak hot dog that was absolutely phenomenal and for some reason I can’t seem to find it on their menus anymore, I hope they didn’t get rid of it ! 🤔🌭
SNS is honestly disgusting in its current stage. I haven't been in a store in years as the last several I did go into were all very dirty and understaffed. SNS should be competing with Five Guys and Freddy's for a premium fast burger tier. Instead they're scraping the bottom of the barrel and competing with McDonald's and Wendy's and losing.

I wish the ones near me weren't so bad, I really enjoyed the burgers and fries.
Same here. In a final visit, I stopped there to grab a bite due to flight delay and it was horrible. The food was average at best. My burger was dry and tough, the service was slow and on top of that the server spilled my milkshake on my pants! What a way to fly.

Last time I ate at Steak & Shake was probably 20 years ago. I swore them off because the burgers were squashed down to nothing. I could literally see through areas along the edge.
Went there yesterday. Was shocked when I pulled into the parking lot cuz it was noon but no one was there. When I went in, there were no waitresses. Just a machine that you use to place your order. Than you have to get your own drinks and get your food when it is ready. It was absolutely awful, and even the food was bad. Will never go back!
I work there currently right now and my restaurant still has all those peppers usualy has to ask for though. (besides citrus freezes) ngl though crazy seeing a big old crock pot for beans is crazy.
Well that self service SUCKS because you can order from your car THEN you have to get out of your car to get it youself! WHY the hell have that option when you want to spend the last FEW days before to gets FREAKEN HOT OUT?

If you haven’t tried the garlic butter burger you’re missing out. Make sure you get the cheap one though, that’s the good one.

Visited Vegas from Australia and tried this for the first time ever and was hooked! Absolutely delicious and cool spot especially after a few drinks.

We used to have steak and shake in Saudi Arabia but it wasn’t cheap the single patty burger alone costs 10$ without fries and coke but it was a delicious burger
