    I love this. Reminds me of when I was living in WA in 2001 and racing my BT1 5 speed.
    Had a volvo 740 intercooler in it, press bent cooler pipes, an extra injector wired in, 3" exhaust, and a simple boost tap at 15psi.
    I raced and raced and raced that thing trying for a 12. I eventually got there, running a 12.8 @ 108. Was so stoked, because everything I did to it was SUPER budget, I thrashed it and it never missed a beat.
    12's are a certainty with 3:45 gears.. lovin this Scotty. Cheers for a great vid, and well done to Lance and everyone at HPR for always being so supportive

    What a great video Scotty and Kian! Spewing you didn't get into the 12s - but low 13s on 205 street tires is pretty bloody impressive! Hopefully someone out there has some 3:46s they can throw your way to get the job done! Also - what a ripping bunch Lance and the boys are for the track time and the constant encouragement - Hope you got em a slab! Cheers - Marc

    I gotta say, I do like the stock look of the VN, so if you can at all costs avoid cutting the bonnet. It helps with the stealth appeal.
    I'm sure you will get that 12, you're not one to sit by and complain when you don't achieve something. Sounds like gearing would help. Also the intake temps with the M90... it sure is a heatpump!

    That is awesome. I had the same issue with my old IS350. Changed to 17 inch 235/40 AR1 Nangkangs and took two tenths off the 1/8 mile. The smaller diameter helped.
    The weather and Covid restrictions beat me as now I know that car would have been up on my PB of 13.27. Never got to run it in the coldest days in winter.
    I reckon either smaller diameter tyres or 3.36 gears and that 12 will come.
    My goal next year is a 11 in the ISF. That is a tall order.

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, just a normal shed type build in a standard real street car going laps. Water sprayed into the throttle would cool it down within a minute. When I had a life and raced the xf I'd do exactly this before each run and it made the intake cool to touch. No fancy shit, just a hand pump spray bottle. • @hayden6056
    @hayden6056 3 роки тому +1

    You can hear how much better it runs through the gears on streets. What's the specs of the radials? I'd be working out the rolling diameter difference and aiming for the diff to be around 3.5 on the radials. Should only need a 3.7 but may even want a 3.89 in it.
    If it drove through the rpm with the same difference between the radials and the street tyres now again but with the traction it'll mean business.

    • @DodgyBrothersEngineering
      @DodgyBrothersEngineering 3 роки тому

      I don't think the profile is that much bigger. I think it is more of a case of the current gears are on the limit of what they can pull with the torque available.

      @@STREETMACHINETV - you've added 0.5" to the diameter. I think your diff gearing regardless was more of an issue. IMO the 26x8 pro radials are a much better tyre than the 235 radials, they fit on a 15x7 steelie as well. You should be able to run them at 20psi or higher at your power level - if I can't turn them with a 430rwhp LS and 4.11 diff gears at 20psi then at your power level you should be right.

    Have you guys ever thought of a Snow Performance water methanol injection into the blower? Help keep temps down, extra octane for fuel, more power, chemical intercooler without all the big piping, can keep car more stock looking. The more bosst, more methanol injected, equals lower temps... just an option. Snow Performance sells the kits.

    Scotty, that head wind (25 kmh/16 mph) is definitely slowing you down. A ratio change & a slippery, & the drag radials, on a calm day, or even a tail wind, would see you right. & I'll be watching, on Carnage. Bring the Trolvo out & run some 10's, just to get your eye in.

    Scotty, "dont" cut the bonnet, it'll spoil the car, simply fit the appropriate thickness spacers between the chassis rails and the K member to buy you the necessary space to fit the intercoolerunder the bonnet.
    It dosn't change the ride hight however it slightly changes the roll centres but i bet you can't tell driving it.
    The only hassle is the intermitent shaft will need some fiddling , depending on the thickness of the spacer there is some wiggle room on the splines

    • @DodgyBrothersEngineering
      @DodgyBrothersEngineering 3 роки тому

      The centre joint may need to be spaced down also. But then is anything going to foul the steering shaft etc etc.

    • @craigritchie1933
      @craigritchie1933 3 роки тому

      @@DodgyBrothersEngineering
      When you move the K member down everthing moves as one , the intermediate shaft ends up in a more vertical position than standard, my club level VS has the engine lowered by 40mm however to go that far i had to get creative.
      Ive also done this mod to a VB V8 to run a single plane manifold without having to cut a hole in the bonnet.
      My VS club car also has the engine moved back 100mm so the front half of the tailshaft has 100mm cut out of it , with some longer bolts and a couple of spaces in the centre bearing support the tailshaft has no vibration issues.
      The change in roll centres hasn't stopped the car from constantly winning its class in Autocross.

    Haters are going to hate sadly and for those hating on Supermang they are just basing their info on a typical stock bogadore v6 well she isn't standard for starters. The old v6 buick's have great potential in themselves to go harder with some mods not much effort as you know for well and I know Supermang has great potential plus there are a plethora of mods that you haven't done to her either and the engine isn't exactly what I would consider run in and once you add the inter cooler that will make a improvement for sure as you know at heart I am a Ford man but I have a fondness for the VN's and other legendary Holdens pre VN up till VZ. Supermang certainly brings back nostalgia of my step dads same red vn commodore certainly a good condition VN is like a aged fine wine it is still a sexy car but I know once you do more mods to it I am a positive thinker and I reckon she will one day see in the 11's I am eagerly awaiting to see the stroker engine but still I think the 3.8 configuration will do it I have seen some impressive v6 ecotechs with turbos and they go hard but again you need money a lot of patience keep at it prove those hater wrong.... Lastly I have to say those pre drag burnouts were impressive unlike the attempted limiter bashing feigns in my area their burnouts are honestly weak you can see Supermang has a torquey engine. Before i retired from the auto industry I used to specialize in Falcons and Commodores I know you have the knowledge and experience plus the backing of some great performance experts behind you so fingers crossed.
