Thank you, really helps in the confusing world of interfacing. I just recently got some woven interfacing plus the light & heavy Decovil from Barb. Added a steam press to the hardware to get proper adhesive so now I am making bags that I am really proud of. Love your mask & pj's...

THANK-YOU for this video!!! I will keep this bookmarked for future reference! Been confused by which interfacings to use, as I do NOT use patterns. I am a create-it-as-I-go kinda sewist, and have had fantastic results, after researching the how-to-put-it-together concepts. However, I am often making changes (fabrics, sizing, etc), that would affect which interfacing to use. Watching you handling them helps to explain how they would work. Great videos!

Lol they are my favourites too, though here in England I buy Vilene G700 as my woven fusible. I thought it was just me who had to smirk or snigger every time I pulled out my Stiff Stuff, it’s a relief to know I’m not the only one!

I think interfacings is the one thing about bag making I've researched the most. Trying to match up the UK equivalent has been a slog. Got myself samples in a file now along with where purchased. I started out with my Epiphany using iron on, but since I’ve discovered woven, what a revelation. The stiff stuff is good too, if only I could remember where i bought mine..Thanks for video. Like your pj’s.

Thank you Chris, just watched several of your videos and I can say that I've made ALL the mistakes, I've made quite a few bags, mostly copies from UA-cam, or my own designs, none have been very professional looking. I set myself a goal that if I could make a carpet bag like Ralph Lauren's then I would have achieved success. You have inspired me with the interfacing video and you make me actually WANT TO BUY a pattern. Now my trouble will be sticking to it, I always seem to want to make my mark on it. I also like to upcycle, and buy bags from charity shops for their hardware interesting stitch design jumpers and cardi's all for bags, and I once found a brand new pair of leather Jean's, from which I made a lovely Xbody bag. Now I've had the interfacing/stabilisers tutorial I, hopefully will make a better job. (I'm a dressmaker primarily.)
Christina I hope you will join our facebook group....there is a ton of inspiration and also help available in the group should you ever need it. facebook.com/groups/ChrsWDesignsPatternsGroup As for mistakes, we ALL make them and anyone who pretends they do not is just....well...pretending! LOL You can't call yourself a bag making expert until you have made ALL of the mistakes....hopefully only once BUT....sometimes more than once EEK! lol! Not sticking with a pattern is COOL and a great way to put your mark on things BUT I do recommend you make a few different styled bags following a designers instructions and requirements lists first... just so you get familiar with everything....after that the SKY is the limit! Recycling being such a FUN was to create unique bags! :) ....BUT.....I have to say that most free patterns just will not go into the level of testing and detail you will get with a paid pattern. My paid patterns for example, take months of work and testing to make sure the design 'works'.....Lots of tweaking to make sure they are quality and they are not released until they have been made successfully by at least a dozen different testers, who catch any little errors I may have overlooked myself. Unless you are already wealthy and don't need money to live on from your designing, its just not possible to do all of that work for a free pattern or free video. xx

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!! As a newbie sewer, I've been so lost when it comes to interfacings and stabilizers. I've been using the Pellon 71F in my tote bags and didn't realize about the wrinkle factor (fortunately, they're just for me). I will definitely be experimenting now.

OMG - where have you been all my sewing life? This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Each bag maker seems to list different supplies and I never really know if I can/should use what I already have. So I end up with quite a collection. And you’re right, some products are quite wrinkly, and I don’t quite care for them. Now I have more confidence in switching to others. And will be using more non-fusible interfacing. New subscriber here!

Enjoyable to watch! I used foam place mats for my structured hand bags. I get them and the dollar store or dollar tree in the states.

@@ChrisWDesigns They are more like the foam you would purchase to make a bag but they do have a stiffness to them. Dollar store has some that are more like plastic and some that are slightly softer and they have a designs on them. So you do still need to use interfacing to block the pattern being seem on light fabrics. I think they worked pretty good. It did save me a few bucks.

I wish your info could have option to use Dropbox also. It required Box so I downloaded & setup account but now must look into how I can print from it- it's not readily seen. That's a lot required as I attempt to print 2 pages for your pdf of interfacings- I think that was the topic! The mind is so fragile when going in unexpected directions! Thanks for making it available. I'm in US & hoping it's applicable here. Enjoy your videos & patterns, keep it going!

Hi Chris! Glad you posted this video - I just started making wallets last month and had some terrible luck with a few products. I will try that decovil and stiff stuff - and maybe even woven fuse - but I think I have something VERY similar and love it --so when that is running low - I will try that one. Love your videos- keep them coming!

Thank you so much for these video because in a tutorial said I need Peltex F1 and Pellon 808 but in my country is not possible to buy it. And I was looking for a similar one. Decovil 1 and Decovil Light its what I usually can find easy. I doesn’t like wrinkles in my bags because of the wrong interfacing 😱🤦♀️ I appreciated you so much this information.

Hard to source decovil here in Canada as well ...And now with the tariffs on almost everything from the US to Canada it makes it hard to purchase through the US ...

Hi Giselle....sorry for my slow reply. I would use some fleece on top of the Decovil Light for the body instead of foam.

Hi Denise....I do still sell WovenFuse Interfacing.... and I have a small qty of the Soft & Stable as well (Under notions) atm.....For Decovil 1 try Voodoo Rabbit...they also have the Soft & Stable i think, so you can combine shipping there and save a few $$. Hope this helps!
Great video. What’s the better interface/stabilizer for leather?
It really depends on the affect you are after. Structured or floppy etc as well as the type of leather you are using.

You could stabilise it primarily with Wovenfuse and if you feel it needs extra body, you could add fleece on top of the WovenFuse. Forextra stability you could add Decovil or Peltex instead of fleece but it depends on the design and size of the clutch.

I have used shapeflex 101 and I like the feel of it but it’s so pricey. I recently got to know Barbara from gotinterfacing.com and she is a wonderful lady! I have her interfacing but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet due to sickness. You can’t beat the price though. I love your videos! I smile through each and every one! Thank you!

Love all the information. Thank you! I did order some of the decovil. I know this item is received flat when shipped. Is there a special way to flatten all the kinks so I can then keep it rolled up in a tube until I use it? Thanks!
Hi Renee....just roll it and store....you don't have to do anything to the kinks. I find they just disappear when you fuse the product but I wouldn't like to leave it folded for months in case the folds do become more permanent with time.

Hi! And, thank you for sharing. I have a question about non fusible interfacing. If the fabric isn't connected to the interfacing, what to keep it from making wrinkles?
Usually you attaching it to your pattern pieces around the edges, with either zigzag or straight stitch, within the seam allowance. That will hold it in place while you construct your bag. :)
What was the blue base you used in the shopping bag. It looked quite sturdy and I would not feel I had to cove it with fabric. Thanks

you could overlock but I guess it depends on what you are making as to whether you need to or not!
What is the best interfacing for crochet work with fine thread.

can a white felt cloth use for interfacing for bags and wallets???
You may be able to substitute felt in some places that may require fleece. It would depend on the design and effect you are after.
