Only half way through and you've already shown me exactly what I needed to know for a purse I am making. Thank you. You are very good at explaining too.
Thank you for this! I tried to rescue a book-shaped bag after my kid was sick on it by throwing it in the wash… and the stiffener was cardboard, so now I’m looking to replace the stiffener in the “book cover” portion rather than replace it. I was looking at using a plastic insert, but now I’m thinking about using a foam instead, which could give it enough stiffness but make it a bit easier to open than the cardboard was… and this tells me what I’ve been wondering for creating my own backpacks and pen cases, etc., in the future. Perfect explanations and examples, thank you so much!
WHEN I STARTED CREATING MY BAGS, I LIKED USING THE WOVEN INTERFACING. IT MADE THE FRONT POCKET STAND OUT MORE ON MY TOTEBAGS AND MAKE UP POUCHES. GREAT VIDEOS VANESSA. I LEARNED A LOT FROM YOU! THANKS AGAIN, SWEETIE!
Vanessa's videos are always on point from day one. Anytime I want to teach myself something new with sewing, she did a video on exactly what I need like 7 years ago and it the tutorials hold up and provide valuable information which gives me immense confidence!
Thanks so much for the detailed information on lining our handmade bags. It really finishes a project the right way. I always get overwhelmed when it comes to this part including adding a zipper. I think I’m ready! Thanks again.
Once again, another excellent tutorial. Just got back into sewing after 20+ years. I learned a lot and was overwhelmed when I went to the fabric store to see all the upgrades. Happy tears! Found your site and what a great teacher! I actually purchased foam stabilizer for a huge bag I made from Debbie Shore. It was a risk but I use foam stabilizer for the bottom of the bag and used a stiff stabilizer on the lining bottom of the bag. For a hug bag it stands up and keeps shape. She had a zipper outside pocket on the outside and opposite inside zipper pocket. But because I like to organize I added an outside regular pocket to the opposite side and visa versa on the inside. I added weight with extra fabric and the foam/stabilizer at the bottom of the bag firmed it up. Your tutorials are great. Thank-you!
You obviously intuitively know what people need. Not only do you show us what it looks like pre- stabiliser/ interfacing. But you show us post- stabiliser/ interfacing AND as a product. I have never used these products at all and having trying to find this exact information. This is incredibly valuable. Thank you!
Wow! Great teacher! I'm new at this, and I completely understood what stabilizers are and what types and how they are used, half way through your posting. I didn't even know what a stabilizer was until 15 minutes ago!! Thank you!!!
This one particular video gives more information on different kinds of intefacings than about ten others I've seen put together. . TYSM for sharing this video with us ❣🥰
Thank you for this video with all of the great examples! I also appreciate how you took into account whether you wanted to store your unused bags flat. Great tip!
I didn't even think about being able to use felt as an option, that's a great idea! I've really enjoyed every one of the your videos I've watched & especially enjoyed being a member of your Organizer Club. Your other UA-cam videos of free patterns are just awesome too - I've made quite a few of them. But I must say, I'm really looking forward to seeing the preview of the projects in your newest club #6!!
Thank you, thank you. I am doing a valance project. Since I can only order on the internet, my valances are very transparent and flimsy. But I can work with it. After seeing this, I was able to choose which one will suit my needs, to fuse to the back. Thanks again.
I really love your tutorials - your style makes it easy for me to follow and makes me feel immediately that I can accomplish the project. Thanks Vanessa! You ROCK!
lovely tutorial! Please what material did you use to make the jean bag in your video so firm and stiff? is there a tutorial that shows the sewing of this particular bag?
Thanks for this video. I really like your presentation style. I needed this info. I’m getting ready to put interfacing in a wall hanging quilt and a play mat for my granddaughters. This helps me decide what to use. Thanks.
I credit all my sewing knowledge to your videos...never sew before I found your channel and now I am happily making creative projects with the help of your excellent guidance! Thank you so much for everything!
Thanks for explaining the difference, i have wondered and tried to read about it. Must say i gave up it was so confusing 😁🙈 so now i get it , i think😁😁
this was such an informative video! Well spoken..excellent delivery..YTubers usually drive me insane with the rambling..the tongue clicking..the swallowing sound like their choking etc..i felt like I was in school with a professor..excellent video..Thank u so much..I know what to get now!
Thank you so much for your very informative and well presented video. I am teaching myself and was so happy to come across your video. Now I’ll be better informed.
Such a great video packed full of wonderful information. I learned a lot about how they all differ. Would love more of these type videos. I have read all about interfacings but actually seeing you show the difference was amazing. I’m a visual learner and this was so helpful as I do make bags. Thank you for taking the time to show and tell about interfering. Great job as always!
That bag is the Ethel Tote by Swoon Patterns. For students who need additional help with every step of this project we offer a digital step-by-step course for sale here: craftygemini.com/shop/ethel-tote/
Hi Vanessa, I love this video. I have a question. If I choose the fusible fleece interface for a bag, should I attach an extra hard interface before I attach the fusible fleece?
Thank you! I have been making bags for my sister and I have struggled to find the correct stabilisers because I didn’t know what to look for, or what to ask for. I will have to try a new one now.
Hello Vanessa I loved your 1 hour bag tutorials your inspired me with making bags and this video is very useful thanks for sharing I am looking forward watching all your sewing videos.
Thank you so much.....I have been trying to do tote bags and I really needed to learn this. I think I may need to join one of your clubs....Thanks again
Thank you so much for this video. I was looking at a tote bag pattern and it called for Fusable woven interfacing AND sew-in foam together. Any ideas why? In your video you talk about using all the different interfacing individually but not combined. I’m just sitting here scratching my head wondering why on earth I would use both the foam and interfacing. Thanks in advance!
👏👏👏👏 super helpful Vanessa, I live in the Uk and find US brand names difficult to find but now I am much clearer on what to buy in uk shops. X thanks x
Great video tutorial full of helpful information for all of us jumping the bag making world. Thanks Vanessa and best regards from the Dominican Republic
You are just brilliant at explaining things! Thank you for this. You made it easy to understand but also gave practical tips on how to apply the knowledge and why you would choose one over the other.
How do these fair running through the washing machine? I wanted to make a brush roll for storing watercolor brushes. I have some canvas for the outside, cheese cloth for the inside... Would like a soft roll but that foam looks interesting. Never used foam interfacing before.
Very informative! I picked up a bag project on a shop hop in Maine and it called for Peltex. I had no experience with foam stabilizer so I really appreciate your explanation!
Such a brilliant tutorial! Simple and informative. I had kinda guessed the difference between foam and fleece interlining but this really helped me see and understand. Thank you.
Have you used like a duck fabric as a lining fabric......I want body to the back but not sure if I like the foam Thx a bunch this was very helpful in understanding of all the different products.
Great tutorial! Thanks, I got educated on this as I'm newbie about interfacing & stabilizer. May I have your opinion please for my 1st project for my personal use as cancer survivor. What is the best kind of garment that can be good with interfacing for washable anti-smoke facemask please🙏?😇 Your opinion is highly appreciated. 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks for this video, really helpful. Just wondering if craft foam could replace the foam interfacing in the same way the craft felt could be a substitute for the fusible fleece?
What kind of pressing pad do you recommend for iron on interfacing? Is there one that stops the adhesive from attaching to your iron? Or how do you clean adhesive off an iron?
Thank you sooo so much, you answered all the questions I’ve spent months battling with. That’s what I want body to my bags like the leather ones you see in the shop though I like to use coloured materials 👌👌
Thank you dear for teaching, but I have a problem I have just started this project ! I was trying to make hand bags ,I used foam stabilizer ,lining and fabric but the threads failed to pass through the foam wen put together with fabric and lining!! I would like to know what can I use in hand bags,And also another question is which kind of bags is foam stabilizer needed, I will be happy if I see any of your reply thank you so much
Brilliant, really informative and clear. Super good to see the finished items / uses. Although I think non woven fusible interfacing ( which I’m most familiar with from dressmaking ) comes in so many weights that the handle would vary as you said. Also doesn’t it guess less crisp over time with use ?
Hi Dear, I try to make a bag from the old jean. I will embroidery on the jean. Should I add the interfacing before I embroidered or after? What kind the interfacing you should I add for the jean fabric and for the lining?
So I’m making a fabric Easter basket. I used the fusible foam in my project but my bag isn’t quite standing up like your bag is. What could have gone wrong here? I’m leery of using anything heavier for fear of it turning out too stiff to turn inside out. I’m hoping you have some insight. Thank you in advance
Dear vanessa, I would like to use felt instead of fusible fleece for bag making. They are available in different types ( wool, polyester and acrylic) and thicknesses (1 to 2, 2 to 3 mm etc ). What would you suggest? Many thanks
Wow this is a grrrrrreat video!!!! You have made my interfacing decisions soooooooo easy now, thank you sooooo much! I love how you showed different projects using the interfacing 👍🏽thanx, thanx, thank you!
Is foam interfacing washable? I have a crochet bag that needs something, buckram is listed in the pattern but I want to be able to wash the bag when needed.
Hi Melissa, Awhile back you offered us to sign up for a janome embroidery class for beginners. I never saw anything more on it please help me to get into your class and how to get there? Thank you Shelley.
Thank you Vanessa, it’s really useful, mostly because you didn’t stick to some specific stabiliser brand.....American brands are not to be found in Europe easily, so that’ssomething that adds up to confusion. Could you please consider making such a tutorial on stabilisers used for the bottom of bags too? I am having a hard time finding one suitable for bags. I also wanted to mention that I. Italy you can find the decovil stabiliser which I fused above fusible batting and it adds body and stiffness to the bag. Thank you!!!!
Hello Vanessa, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the great tutorials. I wanted to know if you have a tutorial or pattern for the essential oils/ nail polish pouch. Thanks!!

Thank you very much ma'am i was lot's of doubts about types of interfacing and now after watching your video all my doubts are clear ❤❤😊😊😊😊
You obviously intuitively know what people need.

Great video! Do you have any ideas for firming up a bag after you’ve made it? Maybe a fabric coating, or an insert?
I just found out that foam stabilizer is exactly what I need for tote bags. Thanks!
Thanks for explaining the difference, i have wondered and tried to read about it. Must say i gave up it was so confusing 😁🙈 so now i get it , i think😁😁
Thank you so much for sharing and I'm glad I found you here :) I learn a lot from this video, now I know more ;) Thanks again and again Vanessa
This is exactly the video I needed. I appreciate every single minute. Thank you!

Awesome tutorial, Vennsa! What would you use for a wristlet purse, foam, or felt or sablizer?
this was such an informative video!

I love your videos ❤…do you have a tutorial for the zipper pouches with the mesh pockets inside and the Fanny pack?
Such a great video packed full of wonderful information. I learned a lot about how they all differ. Would love more of these type videos. I have read all about interfacings but actually seeing you show the difference was amazing. I’m a visual learner and this was so helpful as I do make bags. What is the name of the blue bag that you show at 4:49? I love it and your channel. I have learned so much from you.

I'm just learning about how to use stabilizers and interfacings and this was really helpful for me! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you! I love the way you teach. I tend to always use the same fusible, now that I know the differences I am going to change my ways.
Hello Vanessa I loved your 1 hour bag tutorials your inspired me with making bags and this video is very useful thanks for sharing I am looking forward watching all your sewing videos.

Such important information. I really needed this video. Thanks
This is very useful information. This is very relevant information in making lining for bags. Thank you.
Very informative! I picked up a bag project on a shop hop in Maine and it called for Peltex. I had no experience with foam stabilizer so I really appreciate your explanation!
Do you have a pattern for that small bag you said is for your essential oils (@14:44) ?
Yes. It’s a pattern and video course in one. Details here: craftygemini.com/shop/trixie-pouch/
thank you I learn a lot with your tutorials you are an excellent teacher
This is a great video and you explain the differences very well. Do you have any online sewing courses?
Yes she does! Follow her on Facebook for updates on upcoming classes.
Hi. What about Heat n Bond Ultra hold iron on adhesive? Can this be used in a little wallet or is this something else entirely?
I learn so much from your tutorials. Thank you
Such a brilliant tutorial! Simple and informative. I had kinda guessed the difference between foam and fleece interlining but this really helped me see and understand. Thank you.
Thank you, very informative video. Going to be making some totes and wasn't sure what interfacing would make sense.
Have you used like a duck fabric as a lining fabric......I want body to the back but not sure if I like the foam Thx a bunch this was very helpful in understanding of all the different products.

Absolutely fantastic, great tutorial and you've completely given me all the information I've been trying to work out x thank you so much xx
Thank you for answering my questions. This was perfect timing for me. Is craft felt washable as well ?
Thanks for this video, really helpful. Just wondering if craft foam could replace the foam interfacing in the same way the craft felt could be a substitute for the fusible fleece?
I was wondering the same!
Sorry I meant that I loved your one hour turorial on making a tote bag thanks for sharing.
this was very helpful.I really liked the very first bag you showed, is this a tutorial or part of one of the clubs?
This video was so helpful! They really all do something different to the fabric. Thank you so much for showing all those interfacing types.
What kind of pressing pad do you recommend for iron on interfacing? Is there one that stops the adhesive from attaching to your iron? Or how do you clean adhesive off an iron?
Lots of great information in this video and love the different examples so we can see exactly what you're talking about. Thanks a bunch!
Thank you, very informative and easy to understand... your videos are the best.
Thank you sooo so much, you answered all the questions I’ve spent months battling with. That’s what I want body to my bags like the leather ones you see in the shop though I like to use coloured materials 👌👌
Thanks for this video Vanessa! I'm just getting into sewing I've been wondering about the different types of interfacing.
You’re welcome!

I’d like to know what is best for tote bags, light, medium or heavy interfacings,
Great video Vanessa. One that I refer back to often. Thank you 😊
Have you ever used rubber lining for any handbags? I've been searching online to find some for a handbag project I'm thinking of making.
Brilliant, really informative and clear. Super good to see the finished items / uses. Although I think non woven fusible interfacing ( which I’m most familiar with from dressmaking ) comes in so many weights that the handle would vary as you said. Wow! Thank you so much for such well explained and detailed video. This is exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you very much for this I was going to make your Easter bag and needed information on this. And you are so clear talking😀😀😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Incredibly helpful! Thank you so much 💓
I love your videos, Vanessa! I have a question... Can you use a heat fusible spray on a sew-in stabilizer to fuse it to your fabric?
So I’m making a fabric Easter basket. I used the fusible foam in my project but my bag isn’t quite standing up like your bag is. What could have gone wrong here? I’m leery of using anything heavier for fear of it turning out too stiff to turn inside out. I’m hoping you have some insight. Thank you in advance
Is your ironing tip for creases also apply for getting rid of creases in fabric?
Dear vanessa, I would like to use felt instead of fusible fleece for bag making. They are available in different types ( wool, polyester and acrylic) and thicknesses (1 to 2, 2 to 3 mm etc ). What would you suggest?
Many thanks
Wow this is a grrrrrreat video!!!! You have made my interfacing decisions soooooooo easy now, thank you sooooo much! I love how you showed different projects using the interfacing 👍🏽thanx, thanx, thank you!
So helpful. Your detail and presentation was excellent.
I just saw a video of making a bag. She used interfacing and polyester fiber sheet on the same pieces for the outer can I use foam instead???
Thank for clarifying the different types of interfacing 😁
Thank you so much, just starting to sew again and was a little confused - you cleared it all up !!!!!
Thanks so much for all of the great information!
Thank you, this video was greatly appreciated! I’m saving this in my favorites.
Is foam interfacing washable? I have a crochet bag that needs something, buckram is listed in the pattern but I want to be able to wash the bag when needed.
Thanks for the info!!! Love the yellow pouch. Is there a video on this as I love the nail polish holders idea. Regards
Thank you this was very helpful since I am clueless when it comes to interface & Stabilizer
what is the best stabilizer to use when making placemats for dining room table?
Hi Melissa, Awhile back you offered us to sign up for a janome embroidery class for beginners. I never saw anything more on it please help me to get into your class and how to get there? Thank you Shelley.

I also wanted to mention that I. Italy you can find the decovil stabiliser which I fused above fusible batting and it adds body and stiffness to the bag. Thank you!!!!
I use cheap thin cutting boards available in lots of shops in various colours.
Loved this video. Love the pace you keep and the detail.
Hi, Very Imformative. Where can I find the essential oil pouch that you show at the beginning?
Thank dear for that wonderful knowledge.
Hello Vanessa,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the great tutorials.
I wanted to know if you have a tutorial or pattern for the essential oils/ nail polish pouch.
Thanks!!
