Omg I’m so emotional I’m literally tearing up watching how happy you are to get your bun (‘: reminds me of when I first got my baby when I was 12, I’m turning 22 soon and he’s happy and healthy! I consider him my ESA as well. He’s brightened my life and I’ve discovered my passion for rescuing and caring for rabbits. I hope your bun helps you!
She is so precious. Looks just like my Pelusa who passed away last night. Please get informed on GI stasis and other common ailments on Holland Lops, like ear infections. God bless Ottie and her mama.
@@maliajanell Well, thank God I still have 3 more bunnies to keep me occupied, but I catch myself thinking about her. It's still too soon I guess. Hope your life with Ottie is going great. I love rabbits. Couldn't imagine my life without them. :)
That’s so exciting! Our bunnies have zero interest in the baseboards, but one of them loves chewing the wood frame of our couch so he’s not allowed under there anymore. My biggest tip though is pay attention to their behaviours, specifically eating behaviours, and shedding season. You may find you have to brush her daily, sometimes even twice a day to prevent gi stasis during that time. Or if she ever turns her nose at her favourite treat, then you know something is wrong and to check her tummy immediately for firmness, as stasis can be treated from home if caught early enough. Otherwise bunnies seem to be fairly easy to take care of (we have two ☺️)
Thank you so much! I appreciate all of the tips! I recently switch their hay and it seams like they aren't eating nearly as much. Is that normal or should I go back to what they had before? I was using grass hay but switched to alfalfa as I heard it was better for baby bunnies
@@maliajanell definitely stick with alfalfa for now. But it is normal! Sometimes they are just really pick and don't like the cut. We just went through that with our buns. As long as they still eat and are excited for treats, we're generally not concerned :)
@@maliajanell just jumping in to add some tips...at 5-6 months is when you should switch over to timothy hay bc it's what they need as adults but for now alfalfa hay is what should be given as they need the extra nutrients that alfalfa has to offer to them as babies. as your bunny grows older you will learn much more on what they like or don't so you will have to give different options if they turn out to be a picky eater (it's quite common for bunnies to refuse to eat certain hay or veggies and fruits (speaking from experience 😅)). another thing is try to frequently check their teeth as bunny teeth continuously grow and some rabbits genetically have teeth that grow much faster than others and will at times require a trim sometimes once a month or every two months depending (again, from experience). same with their nails, ensure to trim them regularly so their quick doesnt grow which can lead to discomfort and groom them so their fur isnt ingested which can lead to gi stasis. definitely have a few chewing toys at hand for them always, many enjoy hay mats and barbells as well as apple or willow sticks. if you ever have to clean something off a rabbit, use a damp cloth and never submerge them in water or give baths. ofc your vet will know the best diet and all for your rabbit in particular so definitely ensure you are taking them in for regular checkups. goodluck on your new bun!

You did a awesome job for a first time owner!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A tip is to learn about GI stasis and how to know if your rabbit is sick They go down fast Another is to by oxbow food products Alfalfa hay for babies timothy or grass hay for adults Good luck and props to you for doing resarch
Well one way to catch it , if u have time ,because this is a lengthy vid but this goes over what to look for and why this could possibly be happening )ua-cam.com/video/MG1bmGy4DwM/v-deo.html In short its gastro intestinal stasis witch is slowing in the intestinal track look for misshapen poops especially small ones Slowing in pooping or peeing Not eating Not eating favorite treats (banana is usually a bunny fav ) And crouching along with grinding teeth ( signs of pain) Dont confuse painful teeth grinding with the one they will do while being pet GI can be easier to get if the bunny is shedding and ingesting to much fur A good brush is needed and its very important to brush them Another note on prevention is hay must always be available at all times! Important note: never “wait and see” because that would usually be ok with dogs or cats however with rabbits it will end badly because of how quick they can go down Thats all i can think of at the moment but again your doing awesome!

about the wire hayrack- i would just reccomend switching to something like a diy hay bag as it can be difficult and frustrating to get hay out of a wire hayrack and some rabbits have even gotten their heads stuck in it you're doing a great job w bunnyproofing and it's amazing that you will free roam her great video xx just keep in mind the hayrack thing :)
Your rabbit cage is big enough for his age but I really recommend to not you hay racks they my get stuck and get injured I recommend hay bags/ hay boxes you can DIY them if you want or you could go without hay feeders I personally use hay bags ☺️ good luck on your bunny care 😊👍 and your rabbit is ✨gorgeous✨

@@maliajanell not really, just unlimited hay and water! The hay should be alfalfa hay, since it has much proteins, fat and calsium in it. look
for misshapen poops especially small ones
