    Bought my dad a bottle of this for Christmas. He’s the one who got me into whisky but hasn’t gone full on whisky geek like his offspring, so now I have the benefit of being able to surprise him with so much good whisky he doesn’t know yet- like this one. I knew he’d like because he’s also into cognac, so glad you picked up on those notes as well. Cheers

      That's a good story, your dad is a lucky guy. I'm at a stage where is seems people are scared to buy me bottles as gifts in case I won't like it. I think they'd have to try real hard to find that bottle

      @@NoNonsenseWhisky I know that feeling, but I think it's more a case of friends and relatives being afraid to buy you 'mediocre' of 'uneventful' bottles. Tried to explain that they need not to worry, because I do still enjoy a good entry level whisky, as some are very good and others are still decent to warm up your palate

      Exactly the same here, I'm still a big fan of well priced whisky and having two bottles of something is certainly not a bad thing!

    I had Glengoyne 12 not so long ago, and prefer it to both the 10 and the 18... I was not expecting much, but I rather like it!

      It's always nice when a reasonable priced dram comes out winning

    Sells for (discounted) $75 here in Australia. Purchased one a few months ago & agree totally with your critique .... very nice "clean" scotch!

      It’s certainly a good value dram. Not overly complex, but sometimes it’s nice to have an easy going palate resetter

    For the deals available on the UK... it's a great wee buy and always something to have for the softer side of things.. sometimes cheaper (very slightly) than the 10 (Amazon UK generally good for Glengoyne deals on the core range).

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  4 роки тому +1

      I hear it's cheaper on Amazon right now, haven't checked personally though!

    Such a solid whisky right there. I do pick a few bourbon notes on this. Just a thought on the chill filtering, Glendronach 12 is non chill filtered and that's at 43%. Really think Glengoyne are missing a trick there. All the best chap👍

    Have only tried the legacy chapter 1, 10, 15 and 18 year expressions. 18 year is my fav so far. Would love to try the CS and the 21.

      The older ages statements are fantastic. Priced well, but still a bit too expensive for me!

    Loving the 12 definite step up from the 10 reasonably priced to. It's cheaper than the 10 at the moment on Amazon. Great vid Vin nuce one.

    Good review Vin. Glad you appreciate the 12👍. Of the four glengoynes I've had I prefer the 15,but ive heard glengoyne are stopping the 15.

    • @andy_calderwood

      15 stopped production quite a few months back, so existing stock out there only. Getting harder to get now, so if you see it about and like it (I do) . Snap it up...may be a while before we see a 15 again (may be different also)

      Yeah that's definitely on the more expensive side, and only just ok to recommend. Any higher and I'd have to leave it

    Great review Vin. Like you, after a few years into the journey, sulphur notes are becoming more apparent and unpleasant - particularly in high strength sherried NAS expressions.

      Haven't had this one, but I got to try a few of them at a wine and spirits convention where I also met Gordon Dundas. Fantastic person to talk to about whisky and cask maturation. I enjoyed the Legend more than their 20-something year old while I was trying the range, which has a higher ABV. I think Glengoyne sparkles best when there's more alcohol to carry flavors.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  4 роки тому

      My favourite so far has been the cask strength, so my palate agrees with you on the higher ABV!

    I just had a taste from a newly-purchased bottle of Glengoyne 12 yesterday. It was musty and woody. It took a swirl of the liquid to reveal some slight aromas of orange and pineapple. I would not buy this whisky again.

    • @NoNonsenseWhisky
      @NoNonsenseWhisky  Рік тому +1

      A top tip if you don't like a whisky on first taste. Decant a 50-100ml sample from it, then put the bottle away for a couple of months. You may find it's settled down and you like it

    46abv and I'd already have their core range and thus, have something smarter to say. Prices are actually reasonable in Ontario. Cheers Vin
