To clarify what I've mentioned at the beginning of the video about the "Sovereign Citizen," what have happened is there's a group of anglers that in the last two years of the Salmon closure had declared themselves Sovereign Citizens in order to supposedly circumnavigate the Salmon fishing closure to continue targeting Salmon... A Sovereign Citizen is a person who deem themselves not part of the country therefore are not subjected to the laws of set nation... I DO NOT endorse that kind of mentality on this channel and will demonstrate how to target all species of fishes within regulations set forth by both federal, state, and counties. At the end of the day we as anglers are accountable for each of our own actions so I will leave it at that.
One type of fishing id love to do out there on the American. Steelhead. Although salmon fishing 6yrs ago, I remember catching a 15lb steelhead up near Nimbus. I thought it was a Salmon, unless I seen the color and the white cotton mouth. Sac has amazing fishing.
Well Done SIR! The river needs more guys like you on it. I appreciate your ethics :) BTW, the first fish was actually a hatchery fish but was mis-clipped. The fins that don't get clipped are actually the best indicators to decipher between wild (or natural origin as there are no true wild fish on the AR) and hatchery steelhead.
I get what you mean about misclipped fish and this fish definatly was a hatchery fish, but there are true wild and native steelhead on the american. They are called bluebacks and they come in the spring. You can catch the smolts in the summer and fall before they head to the ocean.
@thecalfisher The bluebacks in March and April on the AR are probably the closest genetic strain to the now-extinct summer run steelhead of the PRE-Nimbus Dam era but they are still not wild/native fish. They are what is termed 'fish of natural origin' meaning their parents spawned naturally in the river... but if you could go back 2 or more generations, you would, at some point, find alternate DNA from other races of O. Mykiss. My life for the last 30+ years has revolved around AR fisheries... Before that, I was a biologist/naturalist. It's super cool that you want to go in to herpetology btw... I brake for snakes ;) ROCK ON, FISH ON, HERP ON... PEACE!
The fall run fish i've been catching are bigger an what you described. I've caught several 10 lb steelhead in the american this fall. I'm fly fishing so I don't know how much of a difference it makes but my buddies fishing with spinning tackle haven't been catching the bigger fish in the system.
Was this yesterday? I want to go but wasn’t sure if it’s open right now, do you know where I can find regulations also do I need a street head tag? Any advice helps thank you!

Yea those idiots learn when they get ticketed that it doesn't matter what you call yourselves.
It’s international law that you follow the laws of a country if you enter it, no matter if you are a citizen or not
so, mexicans?
Lookin good! The fall steeliest have been stacking up heavy recently!
That last one is massive! I’ll get out there soon and get one on the fly.
The first 1 was a hatchery misclip! Great job!

great video, nice catches. my home river. thanks for touching on regulations, they usually are in place for good reason.
Great video brother. I've always wanted to catch a fall run steelhead and now I'll go give it a try.
I really hope they open salmon season next year. Some great information. Great video! 👍🏻

Very nice video thanks for sharing
Cant wait to get out on the water again. Nice 😊
what would you do if you accidentally hooked a salmon?
Where exactly in the American river do you go?
Is the whole section below nimbus considered lower American?
Yes
Row,,,,ROE!!
How would you float a night crawler for stealhead instead of row?
Anyone fishing on the opposite side?
try fishing feather river outlet hole at the gates maby better than nimbus
