It's not a 100% fully fledged camera bag, hence the name: Every day. It's for people who'd want a bag that could give them quick access for their camera ON THE GO. It's never meant to be a fully fledged, Doraemon pocket professional camera bag.
I feel you on that. I think I actually said that my problem isn't with it not being a good camera bag, it's just that I don't like that it was marketed as a camera bag, because as I said, it's not
This was the best review of the bag I have seen. In terms of videography you nailed it. The part I really appreciate is this review is an actual review. It was good to hear your opinion and the features. Too many "reviews" just list features with someone just saying they like everything. Thanks for an actual review! This was very helpful!
I have this bag since 2018. I use it daily, and I understand perfectly how it can't fit a professional usage. I'm an amateur photographer and I like having a bag that can both be my daily commute bag where I put my work stuff and my camera bag. I have two main issues with it: 1) I replaced it twice due to the zippers failing (thanks to the lifetime warranty) 2) I have the 20l version that is absolutely the perfect size for daily use and small trips, but for travel I think the 30l is better.
I agree with everything you just said. I just don't see it as a "camera bag" I think it's going to become my "backpack" when my real camera bag comes in this month.
I honestly feel like this bag is amazing for carrying anything but camera gear. It’s great if you’re carrying a body, lens and a bunch of other stuff. I use it as an EDC and a travel bag, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. When I need to carry a bunch of camera gear, I use a Lowepro Protactic 350
I shoot events a lot and so use mine as a smaller camera bag, I love it. Camera on one side, and lenses, batteries, microfibers on the other so I know where everything is. I open my lens side and use the bag as a shelf to swap lenses without having to put the bag on the ground. I’ve had my v1 since around 2016
the lack of leather on the all back version was to ensure that they (peak design) were able to offer a vegan version so they did not exclude that customer base.
*I AM CHANGING MY STANCE ON THE ACCESSORY STRAPS* now that I've had more than a couple camera bags I have found that peak design made a good choice making the accessory straps the way they did and ive changed my mind about them. They're my favorite ones I've used now.
Hi Sam, I just picked up an older Timbuk2 Espionage backpack on marketplace for $10. I've yet to try it out, and it may be too big, and heavy for my needs, but man, it's pretty versatile with the way you access the compartments, it came with a rain cover, and a bottle opener built into the shoulder strap. I've got a trip down to Austin Tx upcoming, so I might just go carry on with the pack. Even second hand, the Peak Design packs are expensive!
I have had the Peak Design you have and their big travel camera bag as well as many others. The camera bag that I don’t think can be beat is the Shimoda Explore v2 35L. I got the black version, and it has the nicest details of any bag I have ever owned. Plus it doesn’t pickup my cat’s hair like the Peak Design and most bags do. The Shimoda has a slicker material. The McKinnon Everyday Camera Bag by Nomatic does look like a winner, too. The thing about the Shimoda is the straps are truly heavenly to carry a bunch of gear. Plus the bag has some extra space to put some clothes and a MacBook Pro. I can travel fully out of mine with a Canon R5, R6 and Holy Trinity of RF glass. Strangely enough, I do have a Peak Designs tripod on the side of it, haha. Great video. I subbed.
I personally love the loops all over the bag - I rarely use the accessory straps, but I use the loops with carabiners to put my headphones on them, a water bottle, hand sanitizer and so on. It does look a bit like a Christmas tree, but makes traveling with it SO easy. I have the leather version, and after over a year of VERY heavy use, the handles are slightly stretched, but not much. I love the magnetic opening in the bottom - I keep a spare "leash" Peak Design camera strap, together with the accessory straps - and for 90% of the time I even forget it's there, but when I need it let's say I'm in a new country, and don't want to carry the whole bag - it's amazing to have it.
I love my peak design everyday backpack. I find the sweet spot is for when you are carrying a single camera and lens and then a bunch of random stuff. Usually I put my camera on the bottom, a cube of baby related stuff for my toddler in the next section, some snacks and, misc wires, batteries and cables in the next then a jacket or clothing in the top. I don’t have to dig through a bag as everything is separated and accessible from the side. I tried to switch to the Wandrd Prvke but just kept going back to the PD. Where the PD doesn’t shine IMO is when loading it out fully with camera gear. If I’m going somewhere with multiple lenses, bodies, tripod, accessories, flashes then I don’t like the messy organization. Every time I open the side I’m worried something expensive is going to fall out and the heavier items can push down the origami dividers and shift to somewhere they shouldn’t be. For the right outing and load out the PD is one of the best.
I agree with you but therein lies the problem. It's (to me) marketed as a camera bag. It has a bunch of different camera loadouts on the website. That's why I don't particularly think Peak Design did right by this bag, because it's clearly for anything but filling with camera gear. I appreciate your candor though
This is exactly the use case I have...I have a separate bag for carrying just camera and a couple lenses but need something for kiddio's crap, jacket, etc especially when traveling (airport, plane, etc). Thanks for your perspective to go along with @Samuel's really solid review
I recently picked up a lightly used 30L V2 for like 100€ and really it's been by far the best bag I've owned so far. And I don't mean like camera bag, I mean *bag* period. Before that, I had a cheap backpack for everyday use and commuting, a hiking bag with a camera cube in it, and a camera bag when I needed to carry tons of gear with me (cheap, Tarion SP01. Decent but not great) This bag effectively replaced all 3. When I'm commuting, I can carry my EDC camera setup (Fuji X-T1 with a small manual lens and a spare battery) and then arranged the dividers to carry my keyboard, my lunch, my papers, my jacket, you name it. If I'm hiking, i bought the removable waist strap and it's basically as comfortable as my hiking bag except it much more practical to carry a small kit around (X-H1 + a couple of lenses + a little tripod) And when I'm hired as a photographer on the weekends, I can jam the bag full of my event photography gear (either Fuji X-H1 + X-T2 with about 4 lenses, or Nikon D700 + D300 with 3 to 4 lenses all with battery grips, batteries, tripod spare cards and batteries) I just like the fact that this bag allows me to take 3 bags and combine them into 1. Is it the best camera bag? Nah. Is it the best bag to have if you want a modular everyday / camera bag? I think there isn't much better on the market right now.
Thanks for a great video. I ended up with this bag, because of the reasons you disliked it. :D I needed an day trip bag where I can fit a single camera, maybe one extra lens and all my day trip stuff. , laptop, clothes, snacks, etc. I like it, because it is NOT a full blown camera bag, but an Everyday Backpack that protects my Everyday Carry camera. :)
3:27 "I wouldn't use the side pockets for a larger tripod". Thank you. This is the info I was looking for when deciding between a 20L or 30L bag. I like the smaller size of the 20L bag. But I still wanted to carry a Manfrotto Befree tripod on the side sometimes. I have a 15" laptop and I see it would be a tight squeeze. So I think I'm going 30L now.
I've been using the 30L with camera gear for years and I love it. I shoot mostly concerts and usually have a canon 5D body, three lenses (28-300, 35, 50 1.2), in addition to a water bottle, a gnarbox, maybe a rain jacket, and various other random stuff. I always keep them in the same spots basically, and always open the bag from the same side, so I don't have that issue you mentioned of opening the bag on the wrong side. I think that's the key really to getting the most out of the bag is to get in the habit of putting things in the same places so you know where they are. I don't really like the idea of having to put my bag down flat to open it, especially if I'm in the pit at a show and need to change lenses real quick, so I like the side access.
Everyone is different of course; I love the dual size access. Allows me to carry a long zoom on one side and other sets of lens on the other. Not too hard to fill the voids either. But to each his own. Good luck.
You know the side access has grown on me for things NOT camera related. Since I made this video I've actually started using it as a travel bag and I like it a LOT better for that.
@@SamuelJamesVideos that's a good point. Buy a cheap padded packing cube for the top for camera and 1-2 smal primes. And then put your everyday, less fragile things, in the bottom, perhaps retaining only one divider. It's a very versatile, well made and sleek/stylish bag, just not photography oriented. In fact I have their 10L sling version 2 and I find that much better for a day in town with the camera and a few bits and bobs. The everyday backpack does not sling very well and the side compartments don't fully open and have to be held open with some force - awkward and worrying when rummaging among expensive camera gear.
I need a bag that will hold my OM1 and the 150-600 while mounted (a bit less than 14"), and let me put in and out without setting it on the ground. Seems like it would have to run vertical, and side access would let me access when slung to the front.
Sounds like you might like one of the travel bags better. They have a 30L travel bag that does fully open and you can put their camera cubes in it. If you travel with a lot of camera gear, that seems like it would be the way to go.
Some of the gripes you had is strange to me. Opening the wrong side of the flap is not really the bag’s problem and wanting a sewn in strap is just asking for trouble. Sewn in straps typically fail over time and are not replaceable. With that said, I do agree that while walking, things moving around the bag isn’t all that great
Hey man, we all got different wants/needs from products. My job is just to give my view on it and what I like/dislike. I don't hate this bag, in fact a year later I still use it. I'm just not in love with it and don't think the form factor works for heavy camera work. No worries either way
Yeah, I just came up with a consistent system and always put things in the same spot. I adjusted the dividers so they're completely snug with all of my stuff, so I also don't have the issue with things shaking around as I'm walking. I guess I don't switch up my gear too often so it could get frustrating if you do
Last Christmas I was allowed to pick out a present from my employer. It became the Case Logic Jaunt 23L backpack in the color black. I'm very happy with it. It has, among other things, a compartment for a laptop and a tablet. The manufacturer is convinced of the quality because it comes with a 25-year warranty.
That's an awesome warranty. I'm kind of regretting ordering the Peter Mckinnon bag that just came out by Nomatic because they've delayed shipping 4 times now. Always more excuses. We'll see where it goes. It was supposed to ship last October.
Big Peak Design fan here. If I had not bought basically, one of all their bags including the 45L travel, I would had given the Nomatic system a shot. After using the 30L everyday backpack, I agree that the dividers are great in concept but unless you fill up the voids, it doesn't hold its shape well and my gear goes sloshing inside horizontally. I grew to love it despite the complaints you offered here but if someone is in the market, the Peter's Nomatic bag would be a great bag to consider. The Shimado explorer series is also a strong contender t me though their straps alone will render it less urban and more nature.
The origami dividers are not much of a peak design in this product. They are ok to be used vertically but not horizontally as in this backpack. I already dropped my A7IV with a lens and another lens to the ground. Happily it was mud, so nothing wrong happened but I've been really pissed. You can easily forgot to zip side access if you got distracted by something/someone. It can't happen with full access, it's either closed or not, and you cannot put it back opened. I was not aware there is everyday version of Nomadic backpack (called Gomadic in EU for some reason). Guess who's getting it :D
I have the type I of the 20L bag and find it essentially worthless for carrying my camera gear and accessories. The origami dividers move around don't stick to the bag and generally can't hold anything heavy. I don't like that the top can't be solidly divided from the level below it. When I'm traveling I usual put travel related stuff in there. If it is heavy, it falls through the area below it. I've tried to sell this type I even for $50 and shipping and still can't get rid of it. So, it is just going to Goodwill or the landfill. One of the biggest waste of $200 I've made. I got it because I liked Peak Design's straps, clips, etc. But the everyday backpack as a camera bag is a waste. As you say it might be ideal for other than photo users but I don't have that use case.
I get you, but for me this bag is perfect, as long I work with primes only. If I have a job that requires the Holy Grail of Zooms I use the Lowepro Flipside 400 instead.
Just ordered the new Prvke 41l last night, I've been using the everyday backpack for a year now and basically all of your gripes I agree with, it's awful as a camera backpack, not even that big of a fan of it as a "everyday" camera pack, where you just bring a camera and lens or something to that effect. Now as a student bag though, it's amazing, I've been using it exclusively for that the last few months, but would still not recommend anyone buying it for that purpose because that is one expensive backpack for your average uni student.
As someone who likes to own product that don’t include animal skin I’m glad they have a no leather option. Also thank you for also not liking the “side access only” part of this bag. I absolutely HATE not being able to get to all my things at once, not being able to lay the bag down, and not remembering what side my stuff are on. Just can’t figure out why they can’t make a camera bag that has full bag access!
I can understand nit picking for an expensive backpack like this, but might be a bit excessive in this case. Not sure I care too much about possibly going to the wrong side. Beats getting stuff damaged by just tossing it in all vertically. I like the idea of the shelves. I'm likely ordering.
Everytime I see a review on the V2 I pray for my V1 never break. The black and sand color I have makes the interior so easy to find something I lose inside. Side pokets are miles better in the V1. On the other hand, I’m on the 4th year on my V1 and I “designed” de interior for camera and first need access on the left side of the bag and the “less frequent” on the right side. That makes me ao easy to find and cath whatever I need. You ca’nt have full access working on side access only.
This is an excellent video. I was on the fence about Peak Design's bag. I learned this may not be the best photographer bag but it may be great for other things, especially with Peak Designs innovations within the. bag. I am looking for a great travel backpack with several storage options for computer, iPad, clothes and documents (books, notebooks, passport, etc). I thought the PD Everyday bag might be prone to only photographers, and not travelers that use iPhones for their cameras (like me). Turns out I am the perfect target market for this bag. Thank you for the review,
Well i have to say the Side access is why i will buy this bag. I think everything u say is right. its a everyday backpack and more cauls looking etc. but for my use in camera use its spot on... i never have my camera out for that long. im always on the move and the side access is just the best for that. i hate it when the camera is dangling around your neck or mouted to your straps on a backpack. If u need to climb a ladder or sth similar side access is just the smothest. Pretty much my conclusion: The only thing u dont like that much about the design is the Thing i love most^^
I'm glad you like side access - this is a great bag for that sort of thing. I'm much happier with full access but I get how some people like side access for convenience sake
Informative review but I can’t agree that it’s not a camera bag. I have a 20l V1 and a 20l Zip for exact that features you don’t like. I love the double side access. I love when everything in my bag has its place and I just need a second to get it out without opening the entire camera compartment to the public or to the weather and without pulling out other stuff to get beneath it. If you’re not good at remembering where you put your stuff then maybe this bag is not for you 🤷🏼♀️ I always miss this organization when I use another bag.
I have had this bag for over a year and I gotta say it is great for travel. I have the 30L version and taking it on a plane with all your gear packed up nicely and any other thing you want to bring on the trip fits great. It's just when I get to my destination, I want a different bag. I hate the side access of this bag. Oh, I wanna get that lens out, it's on the other side, got it, but, the filter I want is on the other side, back over. Then if I need something I lay it flat and open both sides but like you said everything then falls out. I also don't like that it really doesn't stand up on its own. Side access is definitely not for me. Maybe if the back had a zipper around it too you could get to all the gear while it was lying flat and nothing would spill out the sides. I too am looking at the PM Nomadic bag so I look forward to your review of that.
Same thing happened to me when I traveled or went out for a shoot. It’s ironic that they put some thing to make grabbing your stuff convenient but actually makes it the most inconvenient thing to have because you are not able to get to everything at once so if you need one thing that’s cool, but if you need two things it’s a struggle. Also when you grab a lens, how are you going to put it on? When you have full back access you can lay your stuff on your bag but with side access you can’t. Always have to worry about stuff falling out. For me it was a struggle to pack my Sony A7 and two lenses. And the dividers aren’t completely closed off so some of the objects end up getting tossed around in the bag. It’s just a horrible design. They just need to make a bag with back access and side access like they do with the 45 L travel backpack.
Thank you for this review! It deserves thousands of likes. There are very few ones that share practical impressions, signs of wear, etc. after some time of actual use. And this is the ONLY ONE I've seen that shows how the backpack looks when filled up and expanded!
Lowepro and thinktank backpacks are the real king and queen for professional gear carrying. For real low profile non-camera bag look, there are better options better designs out there. The PD bags still somewhat look like camera bags honestly.
I have to say tho ... the Peter McKinnon Everyday Backpack water bottle pockets are weak and totally was the killer for me on this bag .Not enough pockets and organization. I tossed both the PD and PM and went back to my Wandrd Pvke 31 L. I did However keep the Everyday sling . Just love that thing for run and go stuff. The PM Tech Kit is just useless.
Great vid-and Sam Has a Spending Problem is a hilarious channel name (RIP). Have you tried the WANDRD PRVKE? It sounds like maybe you don’t like roll tops but it sure adds versatility. So does both side and rear access. Cheers!
Your honest review reminds me of the saying, “Other than that Mrs. Lincoln how did you like the play” ;) I was close to buying this as I like their slings and shoulder bag. But, I’ve always wondered if I’d like or trust the origami dividers on a side access backpack. After watching your video I don’t think I would. I do have a Urban Access Thinktank backpack. I may look at their latest and greatest
I get what you're saying. I guess the point I was trying to make in a nutshell is that although the origami dividers and the side access don't exactly agree with me it's not entirely useless. It's well made through and through so I didn't want to just say the bag was junk but I just don't think it's a very good "camera bag" like my original review said. Thinktank has always interested me
Shoulder and hip straps are VERY important. That's always been Peak Design's weakness. Did they finally fix this? What is max weight you can carry all day with this pack?
I'm not really sure what the max would be. I do know the sternum strap is great on this bag. It helps to distribute the weight evenly and makes carrying gear all day much easier.
Hi Samuel, Thanks for the review. Interesting I never got into the hype with these bags and the shoulder straps never seemed comfortable. If you looking at camera bags, check out Shimoda’s new Explorer 2. The strap system are much more comfortable and instead of the latch, they used zippers and you have stowable water bottle pockets. Cons are there are only 2 colors, black and army green, it doesn’t go on sale much, and laptop compartment can’t find more than 16” MBP.
Great Video. Just purchased on used For a good price and will Pick IT Up in Weekend. Sience i'm Hobby photographer and will come around alot, i think this will be a good choice. Also i'm planning to Start studying in Media Creation, and that BAG should fit my needs quote Well.
Similar feelings here after trying the Zip version of this bag. I so wanted to love it but I realized I really don’t like side access anymore - and I also do not like my gear / lenses to have all that wiggle room. I took the same path to McKinnon’s new bag too, just waiting… waiting… for it to finally arrive. Hopefully just another 2 weeks! 🤞🏻
I don't change lenses in the field. It just introduces dust on to the sensor. There doesn't have to be any wind; the dust just comes in and your sensor is all gunked up. What I want is a bag that can carry two cameras with lenses already mounted, and the bag to be as compact as possible. I agree with you....stuff needs to be sewed on; not magnetized clasps.
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for watching! I love both bags now... because I started using the PM bag for camera stuff and the Peak Design for clothes/traveling. They're both great in their own ways 📸
Hey Sam :D thank you very much for the review, I was almost gonna buy the peak design over the Mc Kinnon one, now I understand it doesn't fit my needs.
@@SamuelJamesVideos I saw the sub, didn't expect it! thank you it really means a lot! my channel has been sleeping for so long, just posted a new video, and will keep improving :D now I will just wait to be able to buy the Mc Kinnon Gomatic (for Europe) everyday backpack!
great video! love all the takes. I went ahead and ordered one for me because i'm a part time photographer but will use it mostly for travel and commuting to work
Samuel, thanks for this very comprehensive and informative look at the PD Everyday Backpack V2! I was also considering it, as I have a few other PD products which I feel are of high-quality. However, I tend to agree with your assessment of the issues with side-opening access, and that a camera "cube" tends to hold bodies and lenses more firmly/protected in place. I'm also considering the PGYTECH OneMo V2 or the WANDRD PRVKE, for a mid-sized mirrorless kit, both of which have at least the capacity of this PD bag, but with very diifferent design, i.e., sie/top/rear access.
This is literally exactly how I feel, it is an amazing bag if you need to take a camera and one lens maybe a camera and two lenses and a bunch of other accessories out for a day but it is a terrible dedicated camera bag
I never cared for Peak Design. It's a camera bag and I don't use a camera. Tons of features in it can be used for different things, but they were all designed with camera users in mind. I think Evergoods is a more practical alternative for the price range.
I think it was designed for photographers not videographers. Video inherently takes more gear and gear that is weird shapes. Not to say the bag can't do it, its just not its primary focus.
Late reply but I LOLed at the “low profile” look of this bag, peak design is literally the opposite of that, it practically yells “ I have expensive shit in my bag” 😂. Good video though thanks 🙏
I like my BP. I got the same one you got. I didn’t want the leather straps because it makes the bag look more expensive. I looked at the Peter McKinnon one, but it’s too big. I don’t need to carry such a big bag, especially if I fill it up, which I probably would.
I hear you, the new PM bag is smaller than the original and it's modular. It's on kickstarter. I'm looking forward to getting that bag because it looks awesome
Spot on! I really do regret my purchase of this backpack. Yes, it looks cool and seems like a great concept, but when using it, I just don't feel like my gear is really well protected. Also, seeing the material having signs of abrasion like this, makes me question their quality. After owning this bag for onl a few weeks, the dividers look like their have been used for years, due to them having sign of tear and wear. Tbh I feel pretty dumb for falling for the hype around this backpack. Thanks for being so honest about it!
No problem at all. I don't think the bag is ALL hype but I think a good portion of it is marketing and hype. And as a reviewer and critic I have to be honest and open about my experiences even when it's a big company I'm talking about because without that level of feedback then these companies can just walk all over people. Thank you for watching !!!
Yo this is the type of reviews that should be popular. People who actually use the dang bag as it’s most. I’m guessing you haven’t received the bag yet as you haven’t done a video in it (the Pete one). It’s pretty dope I got mine, a little underwhelming for what I was expecting, but pretty dope non the less
I have the same bag. I also own the first Peter McKinnon camera bag and waiting for the daily, however it is already April and they haven’t yet shipped it. I was wondering with what do you clean your bag? Any cloth leaves a bit of lint on the bag, as the surface is pretty rough ;)
Microfiber cloth and alcohol normally gets rid of most of the dust. Just try not to push too hard because of how "sticky" the bag is with fabrics. I've always found that to work. Hopefully that new bag is here next week!
Great long term review, cheers. There's several things stopping me getting this bag. 1. There's zero webbing straps on the shoulder straps, or anywhere else for that matter. I always attach my Tactical Phone Case to a shoulder strap, so it's availible right where you need it all the time. Essential when skiing and cycling. 2. That usless laptop sleve, well useless for me, I never carry a laptop anywhere, is just crying out for a Hydro Pack. But then you'd need those webbing/elastic straps on the shoulder straps to feed the water hose through. Water bottles are pretty useless when skiing, cycling, or hiking actually. Certainly when skiing, you can't drink frozen water. The Hydro Pack right next to your back always keeps the water above freezing. 3. The waist/hip straps really need to be included for that price. I can't think of any other camera bag that doesn't come with them.
Often times this type of backpack would get the standard tech-esque review at launch time and then you wouldn't see how it fares after months of use. (bags age differently than glass/tech who would have thought) Thanks Sam, this review super useful!
This bag is heavy, doesn’t hold lenses or a body confidently, and if I have small things I have to put it all into one of the sides and can’t see what I’m them until I rummage through. I’ve had mine for two years and never think about using it. I do like the peak camera clip and a tripod head which will take the plate.
i have the og 45l travel bag they sell, its nirvana, BUT with a bad back, too much for me to carry all my gear and lenses. I replace that with a manfrotto roller carry one and ordered a 20l v2 PD backpack for my daily loadout.
I did not come looking for this video, YT read my mind and presented it. Peak Design is a great company. I have had many products and like the ecosystem. Through an exchange issue, where they really did me right, I ended up with this bag. I have been trying it for a few months, not nearly as intensive as you, but I have the EXACT same feeling. Namely, I don’t like that my lenses move around and I still have not gotten used to side access. I thought I was crazy, as I saw all the positive reviews, I was glad to find this video, if nothing else to validate my experience. What I don’t get is how would this ever be a general purpose bag, you would take all the origami’s out completely? I liked the video style and that you zipped along. First time viewer -:> subscribed. Cheers
That's awesome man, I'm glad my videos are finally getting recommended to people. The movement inside of the bag was a huge letdown for me. If I can't trust my bag to hold my gear in place I don't think I can trust it at all. Cheers!
@@reginalb124 PD strap populates the market a lot more than any other, meaning higher chance of compatibiliy. It's just like iphone vs the rest, unfortunately.
@@frankfeng2701 I am not sure what the significance of that is. That's a market where install base actually matters. That is, you will attract developers to your platform if more people use it. Camera straps are independent. It makes no difference whatsoever what other photographers are using. I am genuinely curious why you would prefer a PD strap over BR, but that answer seems...odd to me.
@@reginalb124 Higher resale value for sure. It's more likely for another photographer to buy another PD strap that is compatible with the existing strap release than to invest in a different brand that is functionally the same. PD just looks refreshingly clean at first sight and has no major shortcoming.
@@frankfeng2701 I would question that there are more PD straps in the wild than BR, not sure that's true. They are not at all functionally the same, part of why I prefer the BR. And who worries about resale value of a strap? I've only ever used them until they're worn out.
One of the more helpful PD videos I've watched. Thanks for taking the time. I just bought the PGYTECH OneMo Backpack. I filled it out last night and so far I'm really impressed.
Great video man. I have had this bag for about 3 months and wanted to use it as a hybrid travel/professional bag for shooting events. I find the side access and divider system to be incredibly frustrating to use. I may just need to spend more time optimizing the layout, but trying to bring two camera bodies and 3 lenses is way more work than it should be. Maybe it'd be good as an EDC, even with one divider for a camera & a lens. But I have a great Swiss Gear EDC backpack that serves that purpose. Considering selling the Everyday Backpack and trying out the PD travel bag instead.
@@SamuelJamesVideos I think that is the intention in the design, albeit it's marketed heavily towards photographers and content creators. I have just bought it as my main bag for everyday use, (work laptop, my ipad, snacks, a book, umbrella, gloves etc), but where i can also stow my camera with a standard zoom attached to it. A single lens/body content creator might like it more, if they also bring along a small gimbal, mics, maybe a small drone. But not a multi-lens photographer. The origami dividers give lots of configuration options but few lenses sit snugly. And lenses should be snug.
I did a review a couple of years ago. It’s the best bag I’ve ever used for every day and camera uses. I don’t like a lot of weight on me and this is comfortable all day. I bought a second one so I have the 13 and 15 now.
As soon as they ship it. Nomatic have been lying about their Kickstarter shipping times for over a year at this point so I don't know if I'll ever have the new bag. It's completely ridiculous too, because I was an "early bird" backer. PM and Nomatic really dropped the ball on this one.
Liked and subbed ;-) Was lookin' for a new bag recently so the algorithm spit out your vid on my explore site ;-) I totally can relate to the negative points you pointed out regarding this bag. I almost bough it on last weeks BF sale but could hold back after a few more reviews like yours. Iam also not a big fan of side acces and prefer the full opening (also opening to the inside instead of outside, which allows anyone to acces my stuff - thats the main thing that bugs me about my lowepro Mini Trekker AW i use - it honestly absolutely does the job but i its also bugging me that the side facing my back/jacket alsways lays in dirt and dust... apart from this it has a lot of space for gear and a very big opening for more stuff like a jacket, snacks .... but theres also no side attachment for tripods and bottles. I'll be trying the WANDRD All New PRVKE cause i can't preorder peter mccinnos everyday backpack, which also was my no 1 on the list featurewise ;-)
Thank you so much for the sub, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The lowepro bags look great but they just aren't my style unfortunately. WANDRD looks cool too but the PM Nomatic bag was just too much to pass up for me
I agree. I bought mine for photography, but it became so awkward to use it with the dividers that don't fit the smaller lens that I use. But, it makes a great travel bag especially on the plane since my stuff is protected with the padding of the bag. Overall, I don't use it for it original purpose and still enjoy it for travel :)
I thought I was the only one who thought Peak Design is better called Over Designed. My search for a camera back pack continues. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Should have seen this video before buying... just got this bag and now I'm trying to figure out how to avoid small prime lenses to move freely inside of the bag without having to buy extra pouches for almost everything. Socks? it´s a little frustrating they haven't thought about this. Also if you place your camera on the middle the metal zips may scratch it so not an option. This is by all means not a camera bag.
What I do for the lenses is try to put them in vertical so the origami dividers old them in place but this doesn't always work. Good luck to you, I'm sorry you're not happy with the bag
Very balanced review. I like the fact that you critiqued the bag based upon your personal preferences and you reiterated that some people may like a certain feature but it just wasn't for you. I hate reviews which criticize an item for not being something its not. The best analogy I've heard is buying a motorcycle and criticizing it for only having two wheels. You were not guilty of that. I also like that you re-visited it after a period of time sufficient to allow you to express a truly informed opinion, unlike a lot of reviewers. I will say you did contradict yourself once. You said one of the bag's best features is that it doesn't look like a camera bag, then you said it should be marketed as an everyday carry or student's bag and not a camera bag. Not sure you can have it both ways. One of the reviewers below says he finds the bag most useful when he's carrying a limited one-camera setup and a bunch of other stuff. That may actually be the "sweet spot" (as he calls it) for this bag.
That's a fair assessment, and I appreciate everything you said. That is a contradiction but in this context I would say that although I don't like this as a camera bag I'm also stuck with it due to the prices of camera bags - so yes I don't think it looks like a camera bag AND I don't think it is a camera bag but I'll still use it because it's the best I've got. Not disagreeing with you just explaining where my heads at with this
It's not a 100% fully fledged camera bag, hence the name: Every day.
I have two main issues with it:
1) I replaced it twice due to the zippers failing (thanks to the lifetime warranty)
2) I have the 20l version that is absolutely the perfect size for daily use and small trips, but for travel I think the 30l is better.
I hear a lot of great things about Lowepro I'll have to get one of their bags soon. Thank you for watching!
I saw this in another comment and I meant to update the info under the video. Thanks for the heads up man
who cares about vegans anyway?

*I AM CHANGING MY STANCE ON THE ACCESSORY STRAPS* now that I've had more than a couple camera bags I have found that peak design made a good choice making the accessory straps the way they did and ive changed my mind about them. They're my favorite ones I've used now.
As my recent comment says, I'm trying to make this one work. But as for now, I'm sticking to my ONA Brixton.
I subbed.
Wandrd 31 v2 for travel // Shimoda Explore v2 for outdoors & hiking.
Are Tech Bag
I agree. I bought the bag to use with my camera gear. But, I don't use it for that. I use it as a travel bag and use camera bags for my gear.
I hear you, yeah I'm looking forward to the day this PD bag is my "backup"
Very interesting comment! I need exactly a bag for a camera and a lens and lot of space for my kids' gadgets :)
thanks for your perspective on this! I do carry just a camera , lens and day to day stuff so glad to hear it was working out for you that way
This is exactly the use case I have...I have a separate bag for carrying just camera and a couple lenses but need something for kiddio's crap, jacket, etc especially when traveling (airport, plane, etc).
Decent but not great)
This bag effectively replaced all 3. When I'm commuting, I can carry my EDC camera setup (Fuji X-T1 with a small manual lens and a spare battery) and then arranged the dividers to carry my keyboard, my lunch, my papers, my jacket, you name it.
If I'm hiking, i bought the removable waist strap and it's basically as comfortable as my hiking bag except it much more practical to carry a small kit around (X-H1 + a couple of lenses + a little tripod)
And when I'm hired as a photographer on the weekends, I can jam the bag full of my event photography gear (either Fuji X-H1 + X-T2 with about 4 lenses, or Nikon D700 + D300 with 3 to 4 lenses all with battery grips, batteries, tripod spare cards and batteries)
I just like the fact that this bag allows me to take 3 bags and combine them into 1.
I bought it, tried it, and sent it back the next day. 😆 It's 4 months since I using Shimoda Explore V2 30 and I am so happy with it.
I actually ended up keeping it and it makes a brilliant travel bag... a camera bag... not so much. Thank you for watching!
Great unbiased, one-person's review while being objective at the same time! Good job!
I agree with you. I wouldn't get rid of it if I were you though, it's still a great "backpack" even if you're not carrying camera gear!
I get you, but for me this bag is perfect, as long I work with primes only. If I have a job that requires the Holy Grail of Zooms I use the Lowepro Flipside 400 instead.
That's awesome man, that's the great thing about life, we all have our preferences. I wonder if PD is designing a V3?
Just ordered the new Prvke 41l last night, I've been using the everyday backpack for a year now and basically all of your gripes I agree with, it's awful as a camera backpack, not even that big of a fan of it as a "everyday" camera pack, where you just bring a camera and lens or something to that effect.
Now as a student bag though, it's amazing, I've been using it exclusively for that the last few months, but would still not recommend anyone buying it for that purpose because that is one expensive backpack for your average uni student.
It is SUPER expensive for a students budget but luckily you're going to have it forever because of how well it's built. Thank you for watching!
I agree with you. I'm glad I got the vegan option. I was assuming the leather was fake anyway but it is what it is as they say
Think of the poor plants! Go woke, go broke.
@@linjicakonikon7666 dude plants don't matter bruh moment they regrow and it's more ethical
I went with a tenba bag, stands out less, more waterproof, less modular, more set up for protecting cameras. Peak has nice straps tho.
Tenba looks like a cool company, I'll have to check them out. Thanks for watching!
The V1 definitely has an awesome look to it!
@@TamerBekir everything that can go wrong will go wrong.. imagine not zipping it and it just gives way and everything falls out
Thank you for this review! It deserves thousands of likes. There are very few ones that share practical impressions, signs of wear, etc. after some time of actual use. And this is the ONLY ONE I've seen that shows how the backpack looks when filled up and expanded!
Thank you for watching. Hopefully this video does well as you've requested 😀
I feel the same way. I love the look of the outside but don’t like my camera bumping around and I don’t seem to get with it.
I feel you on that! It is super annoying that there isn't a way to hold your stuff in place in there. It is what it is as they say!
Lowepro and thinktank backpacks are the real king and queen for professional gear carrying. For real low profile non-camera bag look, there are better options better designs out there. The PD bags still somewhat look like camera bags honestly.
Honestly best low profile setup is just using a normal backpack and tossing a camera cube in it.
Hi Samuel,
Thanks for the review.
I hear a hell of a lot about shimoda bags. They seem pretty popular as of late. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for saving me a lot of money on something that I now realize I would not have liked!
Hopefully my man! I'm looking forward to that thing getting here!
Did you ever end up getting yours? Im reviewing mine as we speak now
Excellent review, this is the type of review you can only get after having used it for a good amount of time.
Thank you so much for the reply! I can always use the feedback from my viewers.
I only use prime lenses so sometimes I have to
I got a feeling V3 will come out soon. One reason why I'm holding out before buying one.
I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the V3 for SURE!!!🎒
I also got annoyed with the same PD bag and switched to the same McKinnon bag. Watched that video of yours as well and it was also awesome
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for watching! I love both bags now... because I started using the PM bag for camera stuff and the Peak Design for clothes/traveling. They're both great in their own ways 📸

Came here for the backpack, left thinking about how to hang deer antlers on my pack.
This is literally exactly how I feel, it is an amazing bag if you need to take a camera and one lens maybe a camera and two lenses and a bunch of other accessories out for a day but it is a terrible dedicated camera bag
I agree with you. I'm still using the PD but I'm looking forward to my Nomatic bag getting here because it is full access
I never cared for Peak Design. It's a camera bag and I don't use a camera. Tons of features in it can be used for different things, but they were all designed with camera users in mind. I think Evergoods is a more practical alternative for the price range.
Evergoods absolutely wipes the floor with Peak Design, it’s not even a competition
I mean pd is a camera gear focused company so of course it’s designed for cameras?
I think it was designed for photographers not videographers. Video inherently takes more gear and gear that is weird shapes. Not to say the bag can't do it, its just not its primary focus.
Late reply but I LOLed at the “low profile” look of this bag, peak design is literally the opposite of that, it practically yells “ I have expensive shit in my bag” 😂. Good video though thanks 🙏
it's subjective opinion
I value your honest review of this PD bag. I like the PD camera cubes.
Totally agree. That’s why I’m switching as well:/
Yo this is the type of reviews that should be popular. People who actually use the dang bag as it’s most. I’m guessing you haven’t received the bag yet as you haven’t done a video in it (the Pete one). It’s pretty dope I got mine, a little underwhelming for what I was expecting, but pretty dope non the less
I really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
Such a well rounded review! Thank you! Appreciate you pointing out the flaws while giving props to the positive
100% agree on #3...been looking at it for a couple weeks and the waist strap really bugs me!
Often times this type of backpack would get the standard tech-esque review at launch time and then you wouldn't see how it fares after months of use. (bags age differently than glass/tech who would have thought) Thanks Sam, this review super useful!
Thank you very much. I'm glad to help
Hey there, thank you for the video! What kind of backpack is the one you show at 0.59?
This bag is heavy, doesn’t hold lenses or a body confidently, and if I have small things I have to put it all into one of the sides and can’t see what I’m them until I rummage through. I’ve had mine for two years and never think about using it. I do like the peak camera clip and a tripod head which will take the plate.
I suppose people have already said this, but the black bad doesn't have any leather because it's supposed to be a vegan!
i have the og 45l travel bag they sell, its nirvana, BUT with a bad back, too much for me to carry all my gear and lenses.
Cheers!
Peak Design strap is definitely worth the premium for its functionality and innovation. Most of its other products are a bit overpriced.
What makes you prefer the Peak Design strap over something like a BlackRapid?
Thank you for watching! I hope it all works out with that PGYTECH it looks killer man
I just watched a peak design video on this bag and the black one doesn’t have leather cause they wanted to offer a vegan option
Super helpful review! Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
I actually switched to using the PD EB V2 as a travel bag with no camera gear involved and I like it a LOT better now
@@SamuelJamesVideos I think that is the intention in the design, albeit it's marketed heavily towards photographers and content creators. And lenses should be snug.
most practical and real review of this bag yet
Thank you Peter! I try my best to keep it 100
I had the same issues with the V1 versions of this bag. I ended up with the Think Tank Urban Access. Much better for camera gear.
I'm looking forward to my Nomatic bag getting here next week. What do you think of the Think Tank?
I did a review a couple of years ago. It’s the best bag I’ve ever used for every day and camera uses. I don’t like a lot of weight on me and this is comfortable all day. I bought a second one so I have the 13 and 15 now.
When is the review for the new bag coming?
As soon as they ship it. Nomatic have been lying about their Kickstarter shipping times for over a year at this point so I don't know if I'll ever have the new bag. It's completely ridiculous too, because I was an "early bird" backer. PM and Nomatic really dropped the ball on this one.
It's actually just posted yesterday if you want to check it out!
Just a note, the black bag is vegan, hence no leather. Love the review after months of use.
Interesting! I did not know that. I'll have to make note of that in the description!
I totally relate.
Could the laptop compartment hold a 17 inch laptop? Or is that a no go
I think the maximum is 15" but I could be mistaken. I know they tell you on the website for the bag though
I thought I was the only one who thought Peak Design is better called Over Designed. My search for a camera back pack continues. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
You should check my other video about the Peter McKinnon everyday backpack I actually like it more than this bag other than the side pockets
Would this fit a dji ronin gimbal in the bag?
Depends on which one. You could probably fit a folded RSC2 in there but I doubt you'll be able to fit a whole Ronin S in there
Brilliant review. The depth you go into is perfect 👌🏼I’m keen for the PM backpack review!
Thank you very much shortbread. I hope you're doing well. I think that PM bag will be here later this month!
Thanks for your honest review! Side access isn't a good feature.
I agree with you !!!
Aesthetic aesthetic aesthetic aesthetic
I'm sorry you don't like words
Great review! Curious to know what you think of the PM backpack.
Thank you very much! From what I understand the PM bag will be here end of January. Hopefully. Stay tuned for a review of that!
Great review, thank you! I'm considering the Think Tank Street Walker II. New sub.
Great video review..i love that bag..i have a small crossbody but i want that ..but its way a lot of money..but great video ..
I had a crossbody and never used it. I hope it all works out for you!
Fantastic review
Thank you so much! Sorry for the late reply
How do you clean the peak design bagpack?\
Alcohol and a microfiber works for me, the material likes to grab onto cloth though so it may not be the best method
Thanks
Wow, only 450 views. Quality and personality def there.
Hopefully we can bump that up in the coming months! Thank you
@@SamuelJamesVideos 33 000 views now. Quality pays off 😁
@@TerraThink hells yeah man!
@@SamuelJamesVideos Thanks for the quick answer, and good luck with the new one from Pete McKinnon. Looks like a much better alternative.
The black version is the vegan option of the line and therefore has no leather.
Not disagreeing with you just explaining where my heads at with this
Does it easily get scratches on the outside?
Great review 👍👍
Thanks! 👍
