The trick is that everything can have different colors swapped in. Also, Ravelry has free patterns for any level and yarn for crochet and/or knitting.

I know this is a few days off being a decade old but I still feel the need to share my appreciation! 😭 I’ve been looking for AGES to find a bag that’s big enough to actually hold everything I need it too (I’m going to college to do my a levels soon and wanted to make something to hold all of my books and stuff) and I’m also only a week into my crochet journey so this is the best and the easiest tutorial I’ve found!!! Thank you so much I love the way you explain everything and how you explain that this can be customisable it’s been really helpful

I want to thank you, you are such a great teacher. You don't go too fast and you show things more than once. I love it. I'm a slow learner lol. Soon as I finish this messenger bag I want to try another of your projects and I promise I won't skip the ad anymore. Please don't stop doing what you do you are fabulous. I have a hard time watching others and following but not you. God Bless ya Lady!

I've only been crocheting for a little over a month. I started by buying some hooks and yarn and looking through some videos on youtube. Yours by far have been the easiest to learn from! I love how simple you make the patterns to follow and how well you explain everything. I'm only a beginner but I feel hopeful that this will become a new full time hobby of mine because I'm actually making things thanks to your tutorials! Thank you for being a wonderful teacher.

I just made my bag. I love it!! I used sage & white and for the flap I used both strands together for 11 rows in the middle & white for the final 11 then sewed together with both again but on the outside instead of the inside so that it showed. Came out great!! Thank you for this tutorial. Way easy to understand and do.

I watched the ad for you!!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this messenger bag and this will be a good send for me when I return to school. Oh I am so excite to be stylin' and profiln' in my art school. I am an adult student and the younger students will love this project. I am soo happy to see you back (plus the background noise made me feel like I am right there in the RV with you…lol). I loved hearing your yorkies in the past videos. They like to craft too.

THANK YOU, Lori...For watching the Ad for me, It really does help me to continue bringing these tutorials to y'all for Free. There are paid Subscriptions out there...But I dont want to resort to charging for watching my Tutorials ; ( So once again, thanks for watching the Ads : D
I Love Art...My Whole Life I've Gravitated to Anything & Everything Artistic/Creative...I Paint, Draw, Sew, Crochet all of which are a form of art and creativity. I never went to school tho, other than art classes in H.S. I wish you could teach me everything you're learning : D
I am glad that the RV Noise wasn't annoying, or the Squeaking that my Yorkies were making when they were playing with their Toys ; )
      Lots of Love & Hugs,

I come from a very artsy family and only my aunt went to school and is now an art teacher (she's a really good commissioned sculptress). So I was exposed and doomed to be an artist and surrendered late in life. Plus I work at Joanne Fabrics. So I get the scoop on the latest and the greatest stuff coming out. I will gladly keep you posted. Oh there is a new yarn called Grande (which is the thickest yarn Red Heart has ever made) that will be out this fall. I can't wait to use this yarn on my homemade knitting and crochet needles. Yes… I make my own.
If you have any art questions place free to ask. I love to share. One day I may get bold enough to do a you tube channel. :)
      Take care,
      Peace, Love and Happiness,
      Lori-Lynette

Made my first crotchet project and this was it. It looks fantastic. The only issue I have is the length of the strap. I wish I had known that 251 chains is for someone taller than my 5' :) No worries, I improvised and sewed the straps "down" into the bag as an adjustment. I will be making a 2nd one very soon. Thanks for all you do!

Hi there, your right that would be too busy. I was just referring to slip stitch the strap, to keep it from stretching. Love your style, God Bless you.

Oh okay I guess when you said this: "Just a suggestion, for the final touch for the strap I would use the dark color yarn on both sides." I understood that to mean that you were suggesting that I use the Dark Brown for the Sides, which are also the bottom and the strap, since they are all connected and 1 piece.
I took your suggestion about The Sl St for the Sides, Bottom & Strap to make it a bit sturdier, and made an Annotation in My Tutorial...letting all of my viewers know about your suggestion.
Once again, Thank you for the Suggestion ; )

Question for anyone who has made this: how much yarn did you need?

I used the one pound Caron yarn. Didn't use the whole thing. I did change the colors as she did on the flap.

Fantastic...I am so happy that you Love this tutorial and My Design & Pattern for this bag. If your making them for school bags, you may want to line the bag with Fabric, since they'll be putting heavy books into them. and maybe follow the instructions that I talk about at the end of Vid to reinforce the Strap ; )

    Hey Glama,
I so love watching your tutorials. I just started crocheting about 11 months ago so I still have so much to learn. You are excellent at explaining everything and your voice is so pleasant.
I have started the messenger bag and have a question. If I decide to use the slip stitch rather than single crochet on the strap, sides and bottom will I still do it only in the back loops?
Also, I'm glad you mentioned watching the ads. I didn't realize that watching them was helpful for you so I've been skipping them. I will be sure to always watch from now on!! :)

    • @MadeWithLoveByGlama
      @MadeWithLoveByGlama  10 років тому +1

      Hi Karen,
Thank you for your very nice compliments...I think we started crocheting around the same time 11 months ago...I'm sure you are hooked on it as much as I am ; )
To answer your question...Yes, still crochet into the BLO (Back Loop Only) where I suggest it, regardless of which stitch you use, because it will give your bag the natural permanent bend that you need for that particular part of your bag. I hope that answers your question ; )
Yes, Watching the ads, is how I get paid...so it helps me to be able to continue bringing you My Tutorials for Free. I know there are Channels out there that you have to pay to watch...and I am really trying to stay away from making Mine a Paid Channel. I want to keep helping everyone learn to crochet for Free, so Thank you for Watching the Ads/Commercials from now on, I appreciate it ; )
      Lots of Love & Hugs,
      Glama

      Made With Love By Glama
      Glama,
Thank you for responding so quickly!
I have one other question. How does slip stitching make it stronger than single crocheting? As I said I'm still pretty new to crochet so I don't understand a lot about it yet.
Love & Hugs to you, too,
      Karen

    • @MadeWithLoveByGlama
      @MadeWithLoveByGlama  10 років тому +2

That's Okay...I'm Pretty New At it too, I've been crocheting less than a year as well, Slip Stitches are a Shorter & Tighter Stitch, Therefore, it will not Stretch as much and it will be a Sturdier Stitch ; ) I hope that helps

Hi glama I have and idea pls read. When you do the flap and about 12 rows like the bottom and the strap do a back loop only for a flat top on the bag and add a crocheted handle on top. i also thought of making one with the Hermes Bitkin lock for the messenger bag but can seem to find a lock like it. thank you for the wonderful idea. PS i was also the one who commented for you to make a yarn cake case still waiting!

Hi sweetie, I love your messenger bag. Just a suggestion, for the final touch for the strap I would use the dark color yarn on both sides. Using a slip stitch all the way around along side the edge. That will decorate it and keep it from stretching. Love your style. God Bless you.

Thanks, I like the tip of the Sl St. for the Sides and Strap. In regards to the color change of the sides and Strap, I think that would look too busy for my taste, I love the look of Simplicity, I really wanted to make it Opposite with The Dark Brown and Color A and The Warm Brown as Color B...But, I don't know if you've ever made crochet tutorials, but Dark Colors are So Difficult to Film...the viewer has a hard time seeing where my hook is being inserted : /
However, once again...I do appreciate the tip of the Sl St for the Sides and Strap ; )
      Hugs,
      Glama

I am trying to make a mini version of this for my granddaughter. I crocheted the height I want and did 1 row of back loop only to start the bottom. Then I crocheted about 4 or 5 rows of sc in both loops. Now in order to end the bottom and start up the back side am I supposed to back loop only again for 1 row or front loop only so the bag bottom will sit correctly? Thank you
