The last meal was a scorpion. The male owl may have been making certain that his prey was dead before offering it to his mate, therefore avoiding a fatal sting to mom or chicks. Just sayin’...

I’m currently cruising onboard the Oasis of the Seas, and we have an owl living in the ship’s Central Park. Upon a quick search, I discovered this may be our stowaway. Very neat!
When it says size doesn’t matter, that’s wrong. Size matters a lot. There are specific reasons Elf Owls evolved to be this size and it helps them survive, even if we don’t know what the reasons are
My encounters with owls have always been marked by a very soft whoosh as they dive past on shallow flight paths. They're so quiet they should wear sneakers!
One disturbing thing about the sound effects of the video. Elf owls are silent fliers, yet the sound effect guys have added a rather loud swooshing sound as if it is a hawk, or some other loud flying bird.
OMG, the "stink eye" she gives him when he starts snacking at 2:09 requires no narration! I'm sure it's a lot funnier to us than it was to her.. Sorry 🤍 Nonetheless, what a beautiful couple they are.. Another *Kudos!* to bestow upon PBS Nature! Love your shows!

Thanks for this but there’s nothing in this to give an idea of scale. I know how hard this is trust me I tried to photograph spring peepers here in New Jersey and getting my thumbnail next to one is a challenge. I take it these things are about the size of a house sparrow 😮
Haha the look she gave him when he ate a snack. Omg!!! I can watch videos on owls, eagles, foxes, whales, orcas and dolphins all day
Same xD
All day? What about your day job?
I lol'd so hard
Same
It's sounds all dumb to me as the same ear is shared
That camera work is absolutely stunning. Perfection.
Agree
And to think it might've took months to years to get this kind of footage, it's outstanding
Yes! Especially the last part when the male flies back into the darkness.
I love the stink eye the momma had when the dad was snacking on the scorpion 😂
Yeah, that was just priceless!! 👍🏻😂🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
The photography makes this little guy seem as large as a Great Horned Owl! 😁
He is as big as a Great Horned Owl to those beetles and scorpions he's snatching up. ;-)
Great horned owl(1-1.8kg) is nearly 50 times heavier than elf owl (30-50grams).
Those eyes get me every single time
Those slow-mos of the owl coming in for the kill, feet stretched forward, claws reaching out ❤

Good take
In fact elf owls are immune to death stalker scorpion venom.
So, no problem.

"But Mom is not impressed."
This is the stuff memes are made of.
Did you see that "anger stare" she was giving him as he stopped to take a snack break? Priceless! 😂

Boy I know you ain't eating my scorpion 😑
Female Owl: "Ummmm, bae...are you eating my scorpion with extra cheese???"
Male Owl: **laughs nervously** "Why...why would you think that??"
Ahahahhaa
The female owl’s face when she’s greasing her mans while he eats is so relatable right now 😂
female owl : honey have you’ve -
male owl : *[munching stops]*
Cute little owl!💕🦉💕
That it fits inside the elf nostrils it's in the other elfs nostrils also I just forgot to mention it
The narrator is that dude off of Spider-Man, that’s comforting. I haven’t heard his voice in a long time. I see his face talking
I know right!❤

Oh man, the cuteness factor in this is THROUGH THE ROOF!
Overload!
They should have left the wing-beat sound effects out. Owls are silent fliers.
Silent fliers yes when on the hunt.
My encounters with owls have always been marked by a very soft whoosh as they dive past on shallow flight paths. They're so quiet they should wear sneakers!
Thanks PBS Nature. 👍
Thank you for the fascinating upload!!!🙏👍🦉❣️

No, not really. You need to remember that yes, they’re silent fliers, but only on the hunt.
Congratulation!! You hit the big time. CNN used your delightful video to brighten our day. Just exquisite!!

You need to understand something. These two are not even married. That’s right, they’re shacking up.
@@alvaroakatico9188Nah, they’re usually monogamous and probably more faithful to their partners on average than humans currently are. Darn hippie… 😂

Anyone going to talk about how the narrator has to be Eric Andre?

Her: *FEEED MEE!!!!!!!!*

You should nick name this boy owl Celestial because of those angel wings he has!
All about it is dust to never be touched. You have no idea. The mission is in front of the eyes.
the song at the end is nice
Did they add sound effects for the owls wings flapping? Think they are silent af
Moral of the story: "Don't get married fellas. She will always demand more."
I swear the narrator sounds like Thomas Hayden Church but wasn't able to look into it. Great vid at any rate!
It is. Saw the entire show on PBS the other night.
Thanks Liam...thanks a lot. 2nd watch through the campaigns and here I am, looking at an elf owl to imagine it inside a pocket. 😂
Well done...thank you!
Wow, incredible!
Comment section is as entertaining as the video itself.
These owls would be very beneficial for farms because of all the insects and little rodents they eat.
Thomas Haden church? Hayden Thomas church? Sandman?

Interesting clip.....Canada?
Sounds like a drunk Jeff Bridges.
