  • We visited Paintbucket in NYC to receive their gel nail extension treatment in a trendy pattern or bright color. The owner explained to us the difference between nail treatments (shellac, gel, acrylic), and emphasized why gel extensions are better than acrylic nails. We show you the enhancement step-by-step. Two weeks later, we show the removal process, assess the health of the nails, and give our final thoughts.

@@user-vu2ue3kb5v you don't really need glue-on tips even for acrylics, if you go to the skilled nail artist they will use forms that are much easier to work with than tips (because tips can't be used with some nailplate shapes, ex.nailplate that grows downwards - with glue on tip you can't build a good apex on such nail) also usually the tips are in wrong shape - curved, lacking of the tunnel and with cutout sides, also the girl here has an example of poorly made apres nail system, it shouldn't lift like that

I'm a nail tech everything you have done is "damaging" the prep work is where "damage" is done. And our prep work is the same for anything gel polish, gel extensions, acrylic extensions, dip nails it doesn't matter. We have to clean the nail plate completely to remove any debris for better adhesion. So nails aren't damaging to your nails bad nail techs damage your nails.

@@payne7473 justifiable if its acrylics. It's a very hard thing to do right, esp if the technician is using forms. For $300 I could see it being added from the time, length, techniques, and any fancy jewelery/designs. $120 for a tacky press on that probably took half the time/half the effort than acrylics that style. No thanks, it's not even tastefully done. You're essentially paying for the design of the nail and that was horribly done as well.

Isabelle Gonzales actually gels are harder to do than acrylic, at least for me. As for paying $300 for nails to get done in acrylics ... must be some blinged out nails and custom polishes or finishes like capsulated flowers or designs in the acrylic. The thing with gels is most think it gets painted on ... the application technique is different than applying acrylics. Polygel is like a bit of both gel and acrylic ... it’s more like acrylic but you cure it under the lamp like gels. I’m still trying to practice using polygel. No stinky monomer but slip solution or alcohol is used to apply it.

Exactly, gel is basically made up of very similar stuff as acrylic, however it is just in a different application method. Still, it is the application and removal that truly damages the nail if not done correctly.
Ps. Also, if the acrylic is made of MMA, then it can be the product that damages your nail and your health. MMA is illegal to be used in salons, however some still use it as it is much cheaper compared to the legal and healthier alternative EMA.

nail tech in training here: the product they're putting on your nail isnt what's damaging,
its the way the nail is prepared. a good nail tech should only remove the very top layer of your nail that looks shiny when they're prepping the nail. most places just want to get people in and out to get as much business as possible and end up filing off more nail than necessary because they're rushing. that's why artificial nails seem so "damaging" when they're actually not. a good nail tech won't rush through things and will take time to make sure they're GENTLY filing the very top layer of your nail before continuing with the extensions. extensions should also NEVER be peeled off, pulled off, or scraped off, as that causes the most damage and is why your nails might be sensitive, painful, or thin after removing extensions. sorry for the long comment, ive just had it up to here with businesses lying to customers who don't know any better and tricking them into thinking one product is "better" or "healthier" than another.

What most people think is “damage” and weak nails after the enhancements actually is a good thing. When the nail is bendy and softer after the extensions are removed its because the nail is full of moisture thats been trapped under the extension,it means that the nails are softer because they are so moisturised, after a couple of day or even less they go back to normal and are completly healthy, just like after u come out of a bath and ur nails seem “weaker”.

    • @trenchcoatlizards
      @trenchcoatlizards 3 роки тому +28

I’m sorry, but this is categorically false. Bendy, soft nails after extension removal means that the dorsal layer of your nail plate has been filed almost if not completely off-your nail should have some give to it, sure, but it should not be anywhere near soft. Moisture, by design of any given nail extension, CANNOT get trapped beneath the artificial material if the nail is prepared properly (excess cuticle removed, nail plate dehydrated and primed) and the product is apply correctly. Trapped moisture results in only two things: green, moldy nails, or premature lifting and detachment of the extension. I have not once in my career as a nail tech heard from a reputable source that bendy nails mean trapped moisture.
Just so we’re clear, I mean none of the above as a personal attack. I have no idea where you heard this, and I assume you made this comment in good faith. However, people have liked it, and I can only assume that means that they’ve taken this information for fact, and felt obligated to speak up. Your nails should not feel any different when your tech removes extensions than when they put them on, and if they do, damage has been done.

I saw ur nails after take off. It was little bit damage at (5:12). Ur nail bed turn red much more regular. You can compare to other nail. It was hard for every body check if healthy or not.
I m nail technician. Not too long, but I have enough information about gel, duping powerder (SNS, NEXGEN,...), and acrylics nail. It is good when we have people review nail products. However, I hope can see you can research more information about product.
Additionally, in ur video you said ur nail last 3 and half week. That was great! All companies, that made supple for nail, recommend their product need to redo after 2 and half hand half week. You said ur nail have just leak little bit near by cuticle. You were so lucky because you didn’t get fungus. Little bit leak can cause hold water and making very good place for fungus growing.
This video is good but need more information compare gel, dipping powder and acrylic.

They are not gel extentions, these are full cover tips with a gummy base. There is no construction with a gel. Gel is also a kind of acrylic, like acrygel or polygel. Nothing damages your nails if your technician can use a drill in the correct way. Buffing the surface of the nail doesn't damage the nail because we aren't taking off any layer of the natural nail, it's about taking off the shine. When you do full cover tips you should also buff the nail or the treatment won't last a couple of weeks. Gel extentions are usually done with a nail form, acrygel and polygel can be used with both a nail form and a dual form, acrylic powder can be used with a nail form or with some nail tips. Every material is good to cover the natural nail or repair a broken nail. Acrylic is lasts the longer and gel lasts less, while acrygel and polygel are in the middle becouse they're a mix of acrylic and gel. The only bad thing about acrylic is the smell of the monomer, but the right nail tecnichian knows some tricks to make the smell really soft. They asked you too much money to be honest in Italy where I live you could get better full cover tips than those for max 30€ which is 28$. Beauty Insider is not the right name if you don't know these things.

Ok first of all, everyone needs to stop saying 'acrylic is not bad or damaging, it's the technician" .If you manipulate your nails with these chemicals that are used with enhancements to the nails like acetone,, "dehydrators", "primers" and GLUES, UV lights, etc. l IT IS DAMAGING TO YOUR NAILS. However, there are certain pre-cautions and procedures with how you add, take care and remove them that causes LESS damage. Healthy nails begins with genetics and the inside of your body, but you can cause damage or make your nails healthier by the things you physically do to your nails. Just saying.

Their tips are hybrid so they’re a lot more sturdy than regular full cover tips (they don’t bend... at all.) & even better than the KS tips which do bend a bit.
