    Chinese nail shops are lying to people saying that gel and acrylic look the same! They use acrylic but charge us gel prices!!! ugh it bothers me. I think a news report needs to be done. I know the difference and they all consistently argue with me I just tell them they should not advertise something they know nothing about. I cannot find a true gel nail salon and I am in Chicago! I love your videos

      withluv02 no disrespect intended, do you think they're talking about gel polish on top of the acrylic? that's how my nail salons around here do it, I pay $10 more for gel polish instead of just regular polish.

      Butternutsquash yea and that's why it's deceptive. Perhaps they simply just don't know or think the gel process is too long but I do know they will put acrylic powder on your nails and put a gel topcoat and charge for gel nails and then tell me I didn't get an acrylic set?? It is so frustrating.

    Cool to see actual gel. I've been to 6 different salons and they have NEVER used a pot of stringy gel. It's always been bottles of gel polish similar to what Sally's has put out in the drugstore.

    When I saw this video last year I stopped going to the nail shops. I was so pissed to find out that the gel nails I was getting were not real gel nails. They use two powders; one acrylic, another is a "gel" powder that they charge more for. I invested in growing my own nails after that. I've never seen nail forms in these places either. I called around asking about getting gel nails that start as a gel, not powder. No one around here even knows what I'm talking about. I also hate how they grind down my nail bed. Since my nails are in a funk right now I bought my own acrylic powder, tips, glue, etc. and did my own nails. I was so happy that I did my daughter's nails. They turned out great! I'm glad I can do this myself as I will save a ton of money, time, and frustration.

      Oh crap....I was afraid of this. I just paid 50 plus a 10 tip for a full set of pink and white gels. I immediately wondered why she filed my nails so much then pulled out the powder and liquid. I Specifically said No acrylic. Gels only. It had been over a decade since I've had it done so I 2nd guessed myself. It was for sure gel top coat at the end as I put my hands in the blue light. But everything before was acrylic. That upsets me A LOT 😣

      You're getting ripped off... sorry. But that's a common practice of "professional" nail techs. If you have someone who is above board, they're not going to charge you for gel NAILS & there's no powder for anything on gel nails. I would say you're getting acrylic with gel POLISH. I charge $10 more for gel NAILS. They cure with UV. Acrylic is the brush in the liquid & then the powder & cures with time. You should not be charged for gel NAILS is you're getting acrylic. Yes, I'm a trained professional There are many chop shops out there & I don't advise anyone going to them.

      it is acrylic , they just apply a gel top coat ( sealer ) layer on and called it gel :). now they have shellac,gelac, gelish blah blah and these are call gel colors. gel colors use to replace the polish colors because they last a little longer, but they do not add strength / length like the gel builder does.

    Hi Suzie! I love your informative videos. 💕👌🏼 One important factor to be mentioned is the removal process. Acrylic nail can be removed with acetone but hard gel nails can be removed by filing only. Gel can be a bit tricky in a hot climate if the salon gets hot too. In warm temperatures it gets more liquid and tends to run towards the cuticle area. I like them both a lot. Since my nail corner is home based, cuz I'm still learning, the odour of the monomer is just too overwhelming.

    I have a problem with gel nails. I've tried it several times, but my nails doesn't like it. Some huge "air bubles" appears underneath the gel, as if it tries to get off the nail, almost as soon as they're done. Have can that be? I've asked the several nail techs, but they don't know why and how. I really like it, and thats why i wondered I would try out acrylic. But would the same thing happen?

      @@dmgogel polish is just a topper over a finished nail shape. Gel nails make up the actual shape of the nail. A lot of salons charging for "gel nails" are using acrylic and painting gel polish over.

    Gel nails are on the way out and I'm relieved. I'm training to be a nail tech right now and I just tried my first gel set the other day. The white for a French gel tip is the consistency of runny-ish toothpaste. So hard to smooth out with the flat brush I was given! Still, I think it looks more natural than acrylic in the long run.

      +Verica Vuckovic Neither acrylic nor gel are damaging to the nail. the only damage done to the nail is by an inexperienced nail technician.
      Gel has a few pros over acrylic like the time you have to sculpt and the lack of an odor, but an experienced technician and a good, well ventilated salon nullify those advantages.

    • @wd7835
      @wd7835 8 років тому +7

      +Verica Vuckovic Hi. I'm a nail technician. I see nails that have been absolutely devastated by other salons on a regular basis. I've seen extreme levels of damage from people who have had acrylics and gels, but it's never the products fault. The most common reasons for this damage have been overfiling with an electric file or having them ripped off the nails as 'removal'. Please, don't help bad salons spread the lie thag gels are any healthier or better for you than acrylics.

  • @angiew5788
    @angiew5788 7 років тому +1

    Thank you for this video. When the acrylic is removed from the nails properly, why is the natural nail weak and paper thin? Many people who get acrylics complain about that so they keep getting it done because once it's off, the nail tears, splits, rips, breaks etc. Whatever nail growth is achieved, once the acrylic is off the nail is short as it can be. This is the reason why many people feel that gel is better because of the results from acrylic. If you could please explain this Ms. Susie that would be totally helpful. Also should the nail tech use a drill so acrylic can be applied? At certain salons they will only apply the acrylic if they use the drill even if you would rather them file the nailbed by hand. So should you ever use the electric drill on the natural nail?
    Thanks Suzie

    Watching your videos makes me envy your students. Im currently taking all the classes for nails gel,acrilic,nail art, regular manicures..and my instructor is pretty useless....radiates arrogance which makes her unapproachable..she doesnt really do demos. when we're practising on models she'll barely watch, if she sees you doing something wrong (you have no idea of your mistake) she wont tell you..and the classes are very small 5-7 students. So angry since I already payed and there's no refunds...

      It's important to find a good nail tech - not all are. DOn't just walk into any salon. Search around, get references from people you meet with beautiful nails. When you see someone with gorgeous nails, ask them about where they got them - is the nail tech good, do they ever accidentally cut your cuticle with the e-file, how long do they stay on, ever had any damage - questions like that. Oh and, are the appointments fun? You will eventually find a nail tech you can trust. Remember a good nail tech will be booked, they will be busy - you will need to make an appointment, don't expect to just walk in and get yours done. The wait will be worth it, Hope this helps.😘
