Thank you for the video, Wolf! My father used to serve at Sverdlov cruiser as a doctor in 60s. I still remember when he showed me his old photos where the sailors are celebrating day of Neptune, crossing the equator. Other crewmembers dressed as seadevils caught my dad and put him into the barrel with salt water from ocean, lol. It was hard to explain to kid like me wtf is happening at these photos)
That sort of thing isn’t unique to the Soviet navy; it’s called “shellbacking” in most English speaking maritime traditions for crossing the equator. Said ceremonies vary as to the actual content, but generally involve some shenanigans where King Neptune brings the uninitiated into his “kingdom” with the help of sailors who already had crossed.
Nice how it shows the Soviet guns fired separately instead of all at once. Accurate. I’m wondering why the NATO ships tricked in the harpoons. Is there difficulty levels?
Can't believe those Knox-class frigates didn't do more damage. Granted they would be a poor choice for convoy escort against a surface combatant since their role was primarily ASW.
Fun bit of trivia. Based on the hull numbers seen here, the Gearings on display are the USS Henderson (sold to Pakistan in October 1980) and the USS Vogelgesang (sold to Mexico in February 1982). The Knox is the USS Hepburn (sunk as target practice in June 2002).
The problems with the Sverdlov in dotmod is that the AK-630 CIWS have only half the range they have on any other vessel for some reason and that it doesn't have ANY ASW capabilities eventhough she had Torpedos IRL.
Owing to the retrofit of the WW2 design the Soviets decided on older CIWS guns but added more of them to compensate for the range issues. Ever see the expanse? It’s the Leonidas class idea. A higher number of less sophisticated guns which compensates for inferior targeting and range through increased volume of fire
I've yet to find another channel with the right combination of content and voice that feels both like a "let's play" and also a narrator for anything wargame related. Love your work, love the videos, I look forward to your next series, the soviet sub commander was awesome.
I suspect the life expectancy of such a vessel in the N. Atlantic should the Cold War have ever gone hot in the 60s to have been less than 24hrs. Horrid concept for its time.
If I was the Nato captain you would have been swamped by many incoming javelins at the same time while also defending against all Nato combat ships at the same time. This seemed to be in easy mode. When I play this I'm always sunk cause I play hard
@@TheWiseGuyzz … and if you want more realistic, Dangerous Waters (possibly modded) will let you fly planes, helicopters, operate frigates and, of course, submarines - even head to head.
Still think that if the advances in guided artillery were upscaled to somthing like that today and modern cwis/ laser tech and fire control systems added it would be almost impossible to kill and would be extremely deadly to any other surface ship, just give it a sub escort and the torpedo threat is greatly reduced

The last of the soviet gun cruisers. Of which kutuzov is. I hope nothing happens to the ship as the museum ship is held in the black sea.

Doesn't the gearing have torpedoes?
Gonna be trying Epic mod and Dot mod after I get comfortable with the vanilla campaign.
In real life a harpoon going into your hull would create a massive fire
Anyone know why Caroline were fired individually? I would have expected a flight of four to try and saturate the defense.

Noticed the turrets ripple fire their guns. According to the Battleship New Jersey website thats accurate
Can you do a tutorial on getting dot mod? I tried my self and can’t figure it out

No they would be operating in a group. One of the downsides of surface ships in Cold Waters.

This is also why in Cold Waters, if you can sink a target by using Torpedo, do not use the missile.
