Random thief: "Holy shit, does a supervillain live here?" James: "Not yet. Give it another few years." Also James: _summons Mjolnir with one hand, ignites a lightsaber with the other, and rises up into a gigantic Powerloader mecha_
I mean, to be fair, as awesomely cool as all the Hacksmith stuff is, the forces and speeds involved with *actual* weapons are incomparably insane. Worth keeping in mind the distinction between an engineering toy / practical effect versus real weapons.
Iron man suit The magnetic field can be used to generate electricity. Metals such as copper and aluminum have loosely bound electrons. Moving a magnet around a wire or moving a coil of wire around a magnet pushes electrons into the wire and creates an electric current. Make a magnetic tray and place copper coils on it from time to time. As you walk, the copper coil moves back and forth across the magnet to store energy. Then all you have to do is save energy. All you need is a storage device for this. We made a suit out of thousands of tiny gears that work like clockwork when we walk. We used our motion to rotate each small magnetic gear and placed as many copper coils as possible on the sides of the suit. This allows you to capture as much energy as possible. It's not the coil size that matters, but how many coils in each coil can produce the most power. The installation allows you to build an internal power supply line that feeds the internal generator.
For the release mechanism, you could attach the hammer to the strings through an electromagnet and write a piece of code that would turn off the electromagnet, releasing the hammer, when the strings approach the target.
"releasing the hammer when it approaches the target" That sounds like a complex slingshot that could launch a 15lb weight at 30mph. Maybe a release once caught like the table one. But not on approach.
I too did the hammer of thor on the occasion of the release of the film, I can not compete with your good but slowly I too am finding some space in this platform ... great you, as always
Great build! Y'all should absolutely rig a 3D printer to your cable system to make a room sized 3D printer! It'd be a great opportunity to go over how a printer works in detail while being absolutely ridiculous
@@crazybird199 idk its similar to a delta 3d printer, so the code wouldn't be that hard. The main problem I see is print time, as to make use of the full area you would need either a very long print or a very large nozzle, and it doesn't look like the system could easily support the weight of such a large nozzle (and tube leading to it) Eventually by tweaking the design to be more feasible you would end up with something like the full house 3d printers, which already exist.
@@theneonbop No Elijah is right, with all the oscillation in the cables and inaccuracy of the winches 3D printing with this is pretty unachievable if you want accuracy finer than about 10cm. They commented above that they had to calibrate everything before each shot of the hammer flying here and it would drift out of calibration the more it moved.
@@TimSheehan you could probably avoid the recalibration with better encoders or a better design, and as long as you are printing slowly I don't think oscillation would be a problem
It would be cool to see a version with an electromagnet on the gantry. Then you remove and reconnect the hammer multiple times. You could also use it for other projects as well. (Like force pulling a lightsaber)
That looks awesome, it's amazing to see how a few invisible ropes can be used to achieve such amazing feats. I remember seeing someone on UA-cam making a basketball hoop that always catches the ball, anywhere in the room. Maybe if you guys use that wiring trick with sensors on hand, it would be even better. I'm no engineer, sorry if my assumptions don't apply here. Stay Cool
Man this would be so cool for practical shots on a film set like imagine what filmmakers could do with stuff like this. Have you guys ever considered looking into that kind of thing as a service your company could provide for film studios?
Would be easier to just cgi it or animate it in some way. Rather than all the physical issues and limitations of doing it physically. Plus directors always change stuff last minute and it would be faster to fix those things on a computer
just a personal thought that came to mind, that would make the release system easier to reattach. steal the magnets from the hammer that uses the ring to release the magnet, and keep the metal ring from testing the cable system. have one in the top for catching and one in one of the faces for having it fly. me no know, just something that i was thinking about watching this.

This is awesome! Out of curiosity, would an electromagnet of some form have worked for the release system from the winch lines? I feel like that would make it a bit easier to reattach the hammer. Either way, looks sick!
@@hacksmith that’s a same😔. I was just about to ask if magnets could be used to reattach it. I suppose if magnets pulled the cable back into the locks and they locked back. But that would take way to long and have a high chance of failure I’m sure. If there was a way you all would figure it out. Great job👍🏻
You could make a frame that all three cables are attached to, so that the magnets wouldn’t need to resist the strain from the cables pulling against each other, just the weight and inertia of the hammer
@@hacksmith Is it possible to make a lighter hammer with repelling magnets that function under very specific circumstances and move in directions wit drones? Who says Asgardian abilities aren't real?! This was so awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Even better than your other thor projects!😆😆😆 Also, I just saw Thor love and Thunder yesterday, and I loved it!
So I'm weird and am gonna comment on the tool first: that screwdriver you use is pretty cool. Reminds me of those pens with 3 or 4 color inks you could just click between. Wonder if that's what inspired the guys who made it. The wire system Charles came up with looks awesome, grats on all that hard work turning out great!
In terms of the cable release mechanism, I feel like it would have been easier managed by using electromagnets instead of an internal solenoid that has to be reattached every time. Then you just engage the magnets when you want to put it away. Maybe even just static magnets that's strong enough to hold the hammer so there's no constant electricity. But idk I can say it, but it's probably easier said than done
While this would reduce the invisibilty of it, what if you created a sort of rig (perhaps a disc or something) to attach all 3 cables to. Have a single rod coming off of this with a single entry point into the hammer to secure it. That way, you could reattach the hammer with ease and keep all the cables connected to that disc/rod system. :) Love it either way!
Im not an engineer or so, but wouldnt it be possible to make the retractor with elektro Magnets, so that it isnt visible so much. And you could stop the electric current? That could work with your disk mechanic?
I wonder if the hammer could accelerate enough to make you fly, or at least, make you skate faster. Sure that would need thicker cables. Thank you for the video!
5:11 that is a great way to detach the cables but wouldn’t it be tedious to reattach them each time? I tough that maybe there could be a small transparent mount on top of the hammer that could detach when needed but it would still keep all 3 cables in place so that the hammer can be easily reattached. The idea with the hammer that comes to you is still really cool lol so great job!
I can see this as a prop can be used on movies something, instead of relaying heavily on cgi, they can use this like that. Idk though if there is some rig or something that other movie production use, but this one might be good though.
Looking past the cable system, am sad they connected it via cable to said cable system, rather than some form of magnetic lock. Would be much easier to attach and detach, possibly allowing more fluid and complex handling. Might even have been able to allow the system to re-attach by itself mid-air, how cool would that have been?
Imagine someone pulls up to the warehouse at night and it’s dark so you can’t see the cables and James just telepathically summons mjolnir through the air infront of the intruder. PTSD for life lol😂
Glad another upload is out! I've been missing you guys doing regular videos, but I'm sure there's a good reason, haha. Thor 4 was a great movie, so this was awesome too! (That StuffMadeHere video was super funny too lol)
I think the release system would have been better if you added electromagnets inside the hammer, and then put small magnets on the ends of the wire. Then you wouldn’t have to take the hammer apart to reset it every time.
That's why Marvel tends to use who many CGI. Practical effects take way much effort and money to make and look less impressive in many cases. On the other hand, when applied carefully, practical effects can make the whole picture a lot better. It's just a matter of balance between them that works best. Thanks to the whole team for making that video and good luck with your future projects.
You fellas are insanely amazing! I don't know if you've done this or not, as I seem to recall you strapping a jet to a boat before, but have you made a boat stylized like the dinghy in Treasure Planet? That wasn't even real, it was a string.
Imagine randomly lifting your hand in that workshop and suddenly a thor hammer floats towards you expectantly
No Italians aloud lmao they only talk with there hands
So I'm weird and am gonna comment on the tool first: that screwdriver you use is pretty cool. Reminds me of those pens with 3 or 4 color inks you could just click between. Wonder if that's what inspired the guys who made it.
The wire system Charles came up with looks awesome, grats on all that hard work turning out great!
Thor fans here⚡⚡
Anyone gonna talk about how many Red Bull cans they had at 14:10 😂😂😂
In terms of the cable release mechanism, I feel like it would have been easier managed by using electromagnets instead of an internal solenoid that has to be reattached every time. Then you just engage the magnets when you want to put it away. Maybe even just static magnets that's strong enough to hold the hammer so there's no constant electricity. But idk I can say it, but it's probably easier said than done
they already did that and its lame compared to this
Also, either an accelerometer or a touch/heat sensor would've been better to release the cables from the hammer.
@@hades3351 you said some very complicated stuff i do not understand
@@GumAddic There wasn’t any real complicated stuff.
The only thing you don’t understand is what electro magnets are
I wonder if the hammer could accelerate enough to make you fly, or at least, make you skate faster.
I love how now the hacksmith Is Just making magic real at this point
I mean, it was thor that said that magic is just science without an explination
I can see this as a prop can be used on movies something, instead of relaying heavily on cgi, they can use this like that. Idk though if there is some rig or something that other movie production use, but this one might be good though.
cgi is easier to set up
this video makes me happy a lot more real than a lot of people who try to make this kinda stuff

Now to wait three years for an improved version lol - loved this build!
4:16 look at the code, it says 'hitHimInBalls = False'
Looking past the cable system, am sad they connected it via cable to said cable system, rather than some form of magnetic lock. Would be much easier to attach and detach, possibly allowing more fluid and complex handling. Might even have been able to allow the system to re-attach by itself mid-air, how cool would that have been?
yeah i was expecting them to have it connected by magnet because they have already made a hammer with magnets plus it would make way easier to detach
moral : everyone is worthy now!
Imagine someone pulls up to the warehouse at night and it’s dark so you can’t see the cables and James just telepathically summons mjolnir through the air infront of the intruder. PTSD for life lol😂
id feel bad for anybody trying to break into hacksmiths industries, they could prolly become supervillains if they wanted to bro 😭😭
“Hithumanintheballs = false”
As someone who’s tried coding before, and as someone who’s also been hit in the balls, this cracked me up
0:45 Solid Meme behind you
100% favorite build so far
Just imagine a Thor's Hammer security system.
People could be handed their weapons in case of emergency
@@Taha_A i figured they were thinking more along the lines of “trip the alarm, take mjolnir to the face”
@@gruchogaemer8692 could be both

Glad another upload is out! I've been missing you guys doing regular videos, but I'm sure there's a good reason, haha. Thor 4 was a great movie, so this was awesome too! (That StuffMadeHere video was super funny too lol)
I would say i don't deserve this much fun but God we deserved to watch this kinda thing
Now we need a hammer that can make people fly 😂
This one probably can just needs a better handle and way stronger wires and moters
I think the release system would have been better if you added electromagnets inside the hammer, and then put small magnets on the ends of the wire. Then you wouldn’t have to take the hammer apart to reset it every time.
With a magnetic glove and a plasma globe in it for the lightning should be just the the real thing just not as far a distance
8:55 having 3 thors in 1 movie be like... 😂
I'm curious if we will ever reach the point where multiple features of the previous hammers can be combined into a singular one or a few.
Its just a matter of how many views that would get.
So today at hacksmith they are building a hammer based of a Nordic god
And today at me I am struggling to build a desk...
You fellas are insanely amazing! I don't know if you've done this or not, as I seem to recall you strapping a jet to a boat before, but have you made a boat stylized like the dinghy in Treasure Planet? I would be absolutely crushed in the awesome presence of it and I think it'd be an interesting theme with all your other futuristic gadgets and equipment! (And I'm just a total Disney geek. Treasure Planet's one of my favorite movies.)
i live 5 hours away from your facility which is pretty cool cause you guys are awesome
I love how they make things that the military would literally wanna take as a war weapon
Is that a real Cyber Truck at 1:49? :o
We made it ourselves!
@@hacksmith sick
excited for ant man make it real
This should be shown to all elementary school students to inspire future engineers and scientists
I’d love to see a split saber (from Jedi fallen order) I mostly wanna see a staff that quickly and strongly attaches and detaches
Could you make the God of War kratos ax? I think it would be perfect.
👆👆👆 thanks for leaving comments behind text me I got a present for 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉..
7:49 im also coding in Python :D
Remember the guy who asked? No? Bc no one did.
You guys made a mini Lightsaber?! THAT'S AWESOME! Also, LOVED watching the video, it was AMAZING! X3
You guys are Canadian? I'm sorry man.. Tough break.
4:59 English please lol
You cut your hair
