It's always great to see someone make a real liveable and not temporary hidden room.
Absolutely love it and when I get my own land, probably with a fixer upper house, I'm making this sort of hide away room. There's something peaceful about it to me
Well tahts the thing , it’s hidden✨.
@WhiteGoodman666 alot. (probably, i dont have one)
It is not livable. There are laws as to what's are legal living quarters.

There are apartments shared by 2 humans, in big cities with far less sq.ft., & less utilities (bathroom shared down hall, off-site laundry, etc).…renting for King’s ransoms + their 1st-born child.

"you can tell it isn't load-bearing because the wall didn't collapse" is probably the best quote from this entire channel
I actually said out loud, "Yet."
Did they actually use these flimsy metal studs for support?? That can't be, they must've reinforced the structure
“You can tell it’s not load-bearing because the wall didn’t collapse :D” - James
@@bilijoful They put a lot of timber in after cutting there, and they had that pocket reference book to tell them what size timber. It was just... _after_ they cut that one flimsy metal stud. :)

Imagine if no one actually had any idea he built a secret room, I'd love to see one of the employees watching at power and water consumption and be like: "Hey james? Do you have any idea why we are consumming so much electricity and water outside work hours?"
There’s clever work-arounds for those contingencies, if those become a Thing there…😉 But the bldg already uses water & power for business. Usage isn’t gonna be enuf different to wave a flag.
The amount of energy that James has now is uncomparable to before he stepped back to let the other guys and gals do videos, I'm so glad they made that change to allow him some much needed rest.

honestly I've wanted a house with a secret room/passageways my entire life lmfao, and this looks amazing!! I love how much you were able to put there, water and ventilation included!
It's easy when you've got unlimited funds to be able to hire professionals to do all those things.
James is currently living out the fantasy of a lot of us in having his own secret lair. I'm jealous of him, and all the props to him for pulling this off!
But in all seriousness, it's great that he seems to be doing better and is taking care of himself, both physically and mentally. Major props to you and the team for pulling this off ^^
haha lol, i mean yes but the team really goes through hell to be able to do all this stuff. They live on a coin with sides of heaven and hell but we just see heaven. It's crazy though
For those wondering; the fridge entrance he mentioned is part of the Omega Mart attraction created by Meow Wolf. The entire store it resides in is based on supernatural, uncanny shopping mart experiences, such as self aware cleaning bottles & lemons with an eye. It's an amazing experience & has a rich, bizarre, hidden story behind it that you can discover like a giant ARG (quite literally one if I'm not mistaken).
Been there!

I joined a fan server & learned how deep the lore hunting rabbit hole went. Absolutely in love with the idea of it all, even in its bare basic form of just being a supermarket selling cursed things.

The fact that one of the secret entrances was inspired by a secret passage at OmegaMart is JUST SO COOL!

You guys need to do something similar to Tech Make overs where you Pimp out someone's apartment with a lot of this cool stuff.

They need to find a sponsor, like how LTT does the Intel/AMD $5000 Extreme Tech Upgrade.
I'm sure there would be an engineering company willing to sponsor a "re-engineer my apartment" series.

Bro he liked comments both above and below this. His employees look tired during this I doubt he’ll do anything for them
My thoughts exactly. It sure looks cool as hell. But if anything, I hope his employees get a raise and are not made to work during the weekend as the video seems to imply they had to, because it seems quite obvious he can afford as much.

14:19 weird fact but I am related to the guy who made the Murphy bed
Well. if James found a large under-hall into the HERC, does that could mean that there’re other secret rooms in the buildings? And if you would use it, what would you guys build in it?
Those rooms are the real secrets.
Makes total sense. Red Bull energy drinks in a sleeping pod.
They're glued to the wall of the fridge lol
I love that he quoted captain cold
Ahhhh Captain Cold. Excellent
Awesome build, looking at the eight sleep really got me thinking “it’s almost 2024 and we’ve been using more or less the same mattress technology since the 50’s”. Love to see innovation in the place where you spend 1/4-1/3 of your life.
Too bad they went to a subscription model. Instead of getting all of the features of the bed included in the $2000 like James did a year ago. Now you have to pay $180-$288 a year for anything more than an on off switch for the heating and cooling.
That's the thing, innovation is not needed with the bed. Lay down, go to sleep; that's it. Don't try to fix it if it's not broken.
@@spankyjeffro5320 there’s definitely benefits to perusing better sleep technology such as reducing back pain and precise climate control. I see the technology mimicking things like being swaddled or being able to create perfect contours to aid in spine alignment. There’s also recovery benefits like cooling and heating cycles to relax your muscles.
50`s? More like 1800`s.
@@alexturnbackthearmy1907 the last big innovation in sleep was synthetic foams
2:44 Leonord Snart from The Flash. Nice💙
Some zonings (even commercial) allow an "in skin" "dwelling unit". This is intended for situations where you need an on-site maintenance person who lives there, etc.
H.I. is in canada so zoning laws are different from the US
I am also in Canada, een in the same province as Hacksmith. Which is why I felt even vaguely qualified to comment. Zoning is a "local" issue --usually defined by the township or county or other municipal unit, with guidelines provided by the Province. Ontario started getting more assertive over municipal planning committees (and by inference, building inspectors) about 20 years ago. Which means that zoning rules are fairly uniform across the province, even when they make no sense at all. Because, you know, reasons.
@@patchvonbraun zoning laws just don’t make sense no matter where you are
Not sure I can completely agree with that. I'm perfectly happy that zoning laws prevent the construction of steel mill in the middle of a residential area, for example. What doesn't make sense to me is that zoning laws imposed from "above" (above municipal level) very-often fail to recognize local circumstances. For example, throughout Ontario now, cannot have "livestock" on land of ANY size unless it is explicitly zoned agricultural. So, you can end up buying a multi-hectare property way outside of town, zoned "Rural Residential", and you still can't have a horse. Good luck getting your land re-zoned agricultural.
this is the coolest thing you built in this catagory. way better than the sleeping pod and bat cave. definitely my favourite. btw i liked the leanord snart reference.

Now you need a secret underground tunnel to work. Only issue is... I doubt you'll get a permit for that. UNLESS... you buy a house right next to work so your properties border each other. Just build an underground railway and go for the old aesthetic of an underground mining cart.
This was a great watch James. Hope you're doing well in all aspects. Love your stuff
At this point they are just doing side quests
17:27 “the ramp Morty. They love the slow ramp. It really gets there [redacted] [redacted].”
3:30 . I emediatly thought of the tf2 meme: the engineer is engi-here. And now I am hearing the tf2 theme while he's wrecking the wall.
Project is cool, 8-sleep product is cool, but their price and then an insane subscription after if you want full feature of the super expensive bed cover and water pump/heater/cooler, is absolutely a no-go! They literally think their customers are made of gold, that is Apple and Samsung level of ripping off their customers!
It is a premium price, I will agree, but considering how important sleep is, if the product helps you, even 5-10%, that is almost priceless. How much is your life worth? How much is being awake and energized to play with your kids worth? Yeah in the perfect world it'd be much more affordable, but if it helps, it helps. Like I said, I've been a customer long before they were a sponsor, and I'd pay for it, somehow, even if I was making minimum wage -- sleep's important!
Quoting Leonard Snart is crazy lol
I am so happy that james is doing better. keep up the great stuff yall are doing
