- Doug Parkinson performing his 1981 cover of the Frankie Valli/Walker Brothers song 'the Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' on Australian music tv show Countdown. This version is also has Broderick Smith performing the backing vocals.

Doug was my Brother-in-Law for 10 years and I idolised those Family get togethers when my hero singer was talking to me. He should have been a world star, such feel, timber in his voice, and timing. His Sister had a voice too, and we had a band for those ten years but nasty things with alchohol & pills got in the way. She passed away 10 years ago and we share 3 beautiful girls. Doug was always cool, and his Father was an absolute gentleman, but unfortunately there's no connection anymore, but I will always cherish those times I spent with one of the Words greatest singers

This is so outrageously good, it should be illegal.
Possibly the greatest Australian voice there has ever been...and with the added awesomeness of the amazing Broderick Smith contributing the countermelody. I remember watching this on Countdown and my jaw hit the ground at the greatness I was seeing. I couldn't get to the record shop fast enough to buy the 7" single, which I still have to this day. Love you Doug. RIP dear man ❤

Doug Parkinson sings this song better than anyone else highly underrated singer one of the best singers of all time for that era of music I saw him live once many years ago and he had such a amazing voice

Lol. Possibly but not likely. Lots of other far less talented Australian singers and musos (and actors) have "hit the heights" internationally, so I wouldn't be blaming parochialism. I suspect Doug just likes being small and unheard of. He opted many years ago not to go the super-commercial, pop route and, up until his death this week, he most enjoyed performing to intimate crowds in clubs and the like. Nah, some musos just don't want all that limelight shit. Also, Doug is/was renowned as a really nice bloke, unlike many of those talent show arseholes judges.
So, in reply to another post here, his not being a judge on shows like The Voice is not at all surprising.

I like much of a Parkinson’s work but not a great version. Perfectly good. Just not anything special.
