i mean, thats. brought up again and again, but its not realy "that" impressive if you look at it. its a mostly cube shaped object, in an controlled enviroment(aka there is no temperature they realy have to consider).. all they have to do is implement a check whatever the icecubes are inside the bucket(where iirc they dont melt) and if they not, just shrink the objects constantly at a slow pace while applying a new texture and spawn some water particles etc. Its a nice attention to detail.. but itsnot realy an impressive attentiont to detail in terms of implementation

i think in VR you could do something with it. Maybe instead of the boss reading your mind he lets you into his mind and then it shows your VR sets camera output, showing you waving around in your room.

All I can remember is that in order to beat him you had to switch your controller to the player 2 port so he couldn't predict what move you would make...
I love how Mantis says Snake is suited to this 'stealth mission' when it is evident everyone seems to know exactly who Snake is, what he's doing there and where he is going. In fact the only person who doesn't know what is going on is Snake. Snake supposedly has an IQ over 180 and is a genius but doesnt stop one second to question the mission "Donald Anderson" gave him even after Raven straight up tells him that "Anderson" is a terrorist in league with Liquid. Liquid of course who has mysteriously disappeared from that control room and doesnt have Metal Gears hangar under more than one guards watch even after catching Snake being present in it. A real genius this Snake guy.

When this released and got to this part I was legitimately impressed/terrified. It didn't take long to catch on but man what a great moment in gaming. Years later when the remake came out on Gamecube hearing mantis say I like Zelda was also a lot of fun.
I found a dump of Audio Samples from this game, and here are some note worthy finds. "So you like Vandal Hearts" was recorded, they just forgot to make it play at the right time. "You like Action Games!" was recorded, but unused. Strangely, this actually was re-recorded for Twin Snakes and used properly. "You like Adventure Games" was recorded, but unused. "You like Arcade Games" was recorded, but unused. "You like fighting games, don't you" was recorded but unused. Kensei: Sacred Fist is the only Konami fighting game I know on the PS1. "You like to play sports games!" was recorded, but is unused. Maybe This is where those ISS Soccer Rumors came from. Mantis also has two lines judging you for your inability to avoid traps, but this goes unused since it isn't possible to trigger them because you can't get negative judgement on traps without also being poorly judged on your death rate. "But you are careless around Traps" - Probably High Alerts, Low Deaths, but High Traps. "However Traps are you weak point" - Probably Low Alerts and Deaths, but high traps.
As for the traps, Psycho Mantis does bring up negative points about those if you keep falling several times in the trap doors from floor B2 in the Tank Hangar.
I mentioned that. The issue is that, to my knowledge, it's impossible to get some of the combinations because falling through the trap doors will also cause your deaths to surpass the threshold, so your ability to dodge traps cannot be perceived negatively without also making your "Warrior" status to also be perceived negatively.

That's a new one. Usually ISS Soccer is everyone's go to sports game. There is an unused line "You like to play Sports Games!" line, so maybe in the sea of those there may be an answer.
This game gave me such a unique feeling playing it. The white multi disc, dialogue, a haunting atmosphere at times, like how quiet it was after boss fight with raven or sniper wolf. The Easter egg ghost images in photographs. Immense story
It'd be kind of weird there. Stuff like this could only work in a constantly WTF series like MGS. In Resident Evil, that probably only would have worked for the games between 2010 - 2014. After RE7 it would just seem out of place.

(Use explosives significantly more than pistols or assault rifles) "You demonstrate prowess with a variety of weaponry. The right tool for the right job, correct?" (Don't use any weapon type significantly more than another) "So, you avoid killing where possible. Is this because you're allergic to violence, or simply capable at eluding patrols?" (Less than 10 soldier kills outside of forced encounters) "So, you are merciless. Anyone even slightly in your path must die. You'll stop at nothing to achieve your mission." All three conditions being high and low should've had Psycho Mantis comment more. "With your skills...you may yet prove to be a challenge." "With how ineffectual you are, I am amazed you've even made it this far.
It's one of the most iconic cut scenes in the MGS series and honestly, one of my favorite boss fights from the series also. Having to swap controller ports, use thermal vision, hide from telekinesised objects, and flashbang Meryl before she shoots Snake or herself... all while Mantis levitates around the room with that perfectly weird soundtrack.

What is hilarious for me is the first time I played MGS1 I didn’t know about the controller port swapping trick, so I beat Psycho Mantis while he could read my mind.. it took like 1/2 hours to beat him dodging my bullets constantly but it IS possible to do, very time consuming and hard though. He became a cakewalk for me after that when I found out changing the port makes him piss easy lol Man I never knew so many voice lines existed, I NEVER heard that kicks your tires line before and I beat this game a lot as a kid. 2:30 I’m pretty sure that’s the combination and voice lines I used to get a lot as a kid. I remember hearing those lines every time I played the game. I heard Azure Dreams and Castlevania lines a lot, never heard the SUIKODEN line because I never played it.

15 times total to check every combination for memory card, as well as at least 8 tries trying to get the "Traps" count to go high before eventually realizing that it's bugged and Claymores don't count. I also tested games like Snatcher, Policenauts, ISS Soccer 98 and Silent Hill for compatibility, but I did those all at once.
I always loved games with an extra layer of interaction. I remember one where the game that one of the characters would talk about opening my CD-Rom and suddenly my CD-Rom door would open and the tray slid out and back in.
I also loved that if you either can't or refuse to use the second controller port there is a second way to disable his input reading, by unmasking the statues of him in the office.
That...is cool. I had only heard the castlevania line, so my question was always “does he still say that even if I don’t have Castlevania save data? If so, then his powers are a fluke.” I didn’t think he had lines for a few other games.
For a cutscene, this has to be the most amazing use of "Mind reading" ever done. Sure, it smashes the 4th wall into tiny little pieces, but there's not another game series as far as I know that has ever accomplished the same thing

I think it's possible, but you'd need to have a public profile with visible gametime. It's probably easier to just set up save detection, but it doesn't sound like the worst system.

I love how Mantis says Snake is suited to this 'stealth mission' when it is evident everyone seems to know exactly who Snake is, what he's doing there and where he is going. In fact the only person who doesn't know what is going on is Snake. Of course this is indeed Foxhound's plan, but Snake is a bit dim clearly since he takes forever to seriously suspect much is awry lol
To be fair, he is reading the mind of the player, not of snake. Part and parcel of the 4th wall breaking shenanigans of psycho mantis, like reading your P1 controller inputs
Snake supposedly has an IQ over 180 and is a genius but doesnt stop one second to question the mission "Donald Anderson" gave him even after Raven straight up tells him that "Anderson" is a terrorist in league with Liquid. Liquid of course who has mysteriously disappeared from that control room and doesnt have Metal Gears hangar under more than one guards watch even after catching Snake being present in it.
A real genius this Snake guy.

IQ tests are mainly pattern recognition and raw deductive ability; and most try to run them with as little reliance on language even.

When this released and got to this part I was legitimately impressed/terrified. It didn't take long to catch on but man what a great moment in gaming. Years later when the remake came out on Gamecube hearing mantis say I like Zelda was also a lot of fun.

Having a character read your memory card data is probably the funniest gag in a video game
I found a dump of Audio Samples from this game, and here are some note worthy finds.
"So you like Vandal Hearts" was recorded, they just forgot to make it play at the right time.
"You like Action Games!" was recorded, but unused. Strangely, this actually was re-recorded for Twin Snakes and used properly.
"You like Adventure Games" was recorded, but unused.
"You like Arcade Games" was recorded, but unused.
"You like fighting games, don't you" was recorded but unused. Kensei: Sacred Fist is the only Konami fighting game I know on the PS1.
"You like to play sports games!" was recorded, but is unused. Maybe This is where those ISS Soccer Rumors came from.
Mantis also has two lines judging you for your inability to avoid traps, but this goes unused since it isn't possible to trigger them because you can't get negative judgement on traps without also being poorly judged on your death rate.
"But you are careless around Traps" - Probably High Alerts, Low Deaths, but High Traps.
"However Traps are you weak point" - Probably Low Alerts and Deaths, but high traps.
As for the traps, Psycho Mantis does bring up negative points about those if you keep falling several times in the trap doors from floor B2 in the Tank Hangar.
I mentioned that. The issue is that, to my knowledge, it's impossible to get some of the combinations because falling through the trap doors will also cause your deaths to surpass the threshold, so your ability to dodge traps cannot be perceived negatively without also making your "Warrior" status to also be perceived negatively.

That's a new one. Usually ISS Soccer is everyone's go to sports game. There is an unused line "You like to play Sports Games!" line, so maybe in the sea of those there may be an answer.

This game gave me such a unique feeling playing it. The white multi disc, dialogue, a haunting atmosphere at times, like how quiet it was after boss fight with raven or sniper wolf. The Easter egg ghost images in photographs. Immense story
They really need to make more game characters do this, that would be sick if they did it in the resident evil series
It'd be kind of weird there. Stuff like this could only work in a constantly WTF series like MGS. In Resident Evil, that probably only would have worked for the games between 2010 - 2014. After RE7 it would just seem out of place.

It's one of the most iconic cut scenes in the MGS series and honestly, one of my favorite boss fights from the series also. Having to swap controller ports, use thermal vision, hide from telekinesised objects, and flashbang Meryl before she shoots Snake or herself... all while Mantis levitates around the room with that perfectly weird soundtrack.

What is hilarious for me is the first time I played MGS1 I didn’t know about the controller port swapping trick, so I beat Psycho Mantis while he could read my
mind.. it took like 1/2 hours to beat him dodging my bullets constantly but it IS possible to do, very time consuming and hard though.
He became a cakewalk for me after that when I found out changing the port makes him piss easy lol

15 times total to check every combination for memory card, as well as at least 8 tries trying to get the "Traps" count to go high before eventually realizing that it's bugged and Claymores don't count. I also tested games like Snatcher, Policenauts, ISS Soccer 98 and Silent Hill for compatibility, but I did those all at once.

For a cutscene, this has to be the most amazing use of "Mind reading" ever done. Sure, it smashes the 4th wall into tiny little pieces, but there's not another game series as far as I know that has ever accomplished the same thing

In 2001, I actually tested out what Mantis says if you have a lot of Saves of MGS1 or less.
That was the only thing I didn't really explore in this, but that's because I remember the number required being absurd.
