For future viewers. I’m pretty sure the part that he skips over at 55:00 is a camera Rotation. Around 56:00 You can see that the “Z Rotation” of the camera is now at 0x+29 and there’s two new key frames there. Considering it’s about half way through the frames, I’m assuming he did a Rotation 0x60 at 00:00 and then at the 1 second mark, it’s back down to 0x+0.
This video was so informational. I did notice that myself that the text rotated. When Nick copied and pasted the keyframes to keep the camera still, the stopwatch was still active for the Z Rotation. I suppose since there was no value change for the Z Rotation, a keyframe was not added there.
For anyone stuck at 55:44. Here is my solution, it works and am not sure if it is what Nick did. Remember the NULL Object? Select it, then press R to bring out the Rotation settings. You want to Rotate in the Z-axis. So, it is the ORIENTATION and there are three-axis, all with (00, 00, 00). In your timeframe, go to the beginning and click the TIME icon on your ORIENTATION, then select the third axis and type in 300. It should look like this now, (00, 00, 300). Then go to around 0:00:01:05 and then change the 300 back to 0. That should do the Rotation transition and don't forget to do the Easy Ease to make it smooth.
I finally made up my mind to jump on after effects today, was pretty blank after opening it tbh😂 and as soon as I open up UA-cam to search for some tutorials, I see this video pop up😭 couldn't have been a better time to upload this man, Bless you I'm sure this will help me a lot❤️
I downloaded Ae a couple of months ago but whenever I opened it, I saw it as a difficult interface with so many options and was always hesitant to start something. After watching this, I've now realized is that nothing is difficult if you give it time. Thank You So Much ❤❤
You are the best teacher. I am born today in AE. I begin the fantastic journey into being contributor of AE effects on commercial scale with stock agencies. Very nice indeed !!!. Be Blessed and Stay Well !!!!
Wow, my head is filled up. I spent the best of my day studying this tutorial trying to copy everything you did. At approx. 54 mins into the video, I got lost due to an apparent update from Adobe where for some reason they have removed the camera tool you used. After that, I could only watch without executing - but all in all this was a really informative session. Thank you so much!
I faced the same issue but still I went ahead and did it exact as he thought and made arround 90 percent same. Also I was not getting how to copy and paste key frame. I have the same version as yours of AE.
@@eriontufa I learned a bit lol, nothing perfect yet but I learned how to use roto, And that you can put effects in the back and use opacity key frames to make flashes
Something important to realize while following along is make sure the the renderer being used to Classic 3D. This could cause you to run into some issues that might confuse you if you don't know what's happening. This can be found in Composition > Composition Settings. Click on the 3D Renderer tab and switch from Cinema 4D to Classic 3D. Cinema 4D does not allow track mats (that alpha channel technique we used) and it messes with the gradient map, which results in the effects not working properly. We are working with layers in 3D space (2.5D) and Cinema 4D restricts some of the techniques used in this video. For other projects where you would work with actual 3D objects (e.g. extruded things or renders), Cinema 4D is your renderer; however, it doesn't function properly for this type of project/techniques.
Thank you Josh and Nick, this is so helpful. I'm gonna practise this about a 100 times now, AE can be intimidating when you're not sure what to do but this tutorial is definitely helping overcome that

This is the first time opening AE, About 17:25 into this nice tutorial I can't get the two masks to overlay? So the blue and the magenta are not transparent even though I have the 40% opacity on??? I've watched this over and over like 10 times and each time the two colours do not overlap, either blue is showing or the magenta they do not show up together any help here is appreciated.
This was all going smoothly until the Track Z camera tool (around 54:00) I don't have that tool in my panel and I can't find any info on how to get it. Has the toolbar changed since this video was made?
I have no idea what Im doing wrong but when I try to trim path the underline in 1:05:10 the line won't do it. It just pops up without any finesse! I've tried reloading the program, rewatched this part in your vid to make sure I didn't miss a step but it's still being an asshole. What should I do?
I'd love to hear about how to use AE to enhance vlogs that we edited in another program (like Final Cut X). How can the two programs talk to each other to overlay doodles or title frames over the video footage?
