It really isn't that easy. AE is a professional VFX tool. The modern version also links seamlessly with Cinema 4D and a LOT of plugins like Maxon's Red Giant, plus a bazillion templates. This program is Alice's rabbit hole incarnate. It can do a HUGE number of things, but the learning curve is as steep as a timing curve.
Trying to follow the tutorial, I have a Mac but when you cut the layer ROTO to use that tool to select the person ( after duplicating that layer), The keys you ask us to select do not work for mac so I cannot select the section I want the effect to last for. Any help? how can I do that? I cannot continue with the tutorial because I am stuck there. Thanks in advance! ( I am an extreme beginner and I find this a bit difficult, I know nothing about this software, sorry if my question is a bit damn.. )😢
You'll use the 'option' key on Mac when he says to use 'alt'. Make sure you're clicking the Roto tool which is the icon with the human&paint brush, not just the paint brush icon (that's the brush tool)
Late reply but I just went to Keyboard Shortcuts -menu by clicking on "Help" in AE and typing in Keyboard. Then just search for the trim shortcut and assign it to a new key. For example, I set it to Option + 8.
You cant really reduce it. You can but then youre taking up a lot of time trying to get it right. I would toy with it and practice but to upload, always make sure youre uploading in 30fps so that the files arent so big. If youre doing slow motion affects, you would need 60fps so that it looks smooth and not choppy.

While I followed this tutorial till the end and learned a lot doing it, let me mention two things that might be useful to avoid in future videos: 1. The title is totally misleading, this is not a generic beginner tutorial, it's about roto and applying your templates. Most users will have false expectations while trying to follow this. 2. You lost me at the template part. It's extremely convoluted and the user has no chance to figure it out. You just say click here click there, and while it works in the end, we have no idea why. The template itself needs a tutorial of its own. A beginner tutorial is about vanilla AE features not about custome template configuration. Otherwise thanks, great work.

Sorry to disappoint but his is NOT for absolute beginners. You need to have the basics to catch up. Otherwise, have fun pausing and rewinding until you end up spending many hours trying to figure this out.

Delete the preferences and relaunch it.
