    I see a lot of people wanting to be reenactors unfortunately though for the future generations of reenactors you're going to find the equipment quite ridiculously expensive. Its bad enough now I can't imagine how bad it's going to be for you guys. Firearms, helmets, even repro uniforms just keep going up. All I can think about when I think about D-Day is a WW2 vet’s description of his boat. “They couldn’t open the door to the boat, because the door man was shot, all I could do was use the dead soldiers in front of me as a shield to stop the MG fire until I could open the door myself.” My great uncle died on D-Day, thank you for your efforts on this re-enactment, means a lot to people who lost on that day.

    The landing craft, the soldiers on the beach, the planes flying over periodically.... The sheer scale of this is insane, and that's not even a fraction of the scale of the actual invasion of Normandy. Just imagine if an event were ever organized in the actual location that involved reenacting units and operational aircraft from all over the globe...

    • @ilovethe1950s

  • @jonathanwalker8730
    @jonathanwalker8730 7 місяців тому +41

    The extraordinary thing about this re-enactment is that we're all used to seeing grainy black and white footage of D-Day, and cinematic portrayals of the landings with lots of cinematic effects, but this is what it must have been like at the time... the sound of the landing craft motors, the drone of aircraft overhead, the wash of the sea, bright blue sky, sandy beaches, bright natural daylight, realistic gunfire and explosion sounds. A mesmerising video. It just goes to remind you that those kids must have had balls bigger than King Kong's.

    • @mobiusraptor7
      @mobiusraptor7 4 місяці тому +6

      "Bright natural daylight"
      Usually you would think of something happy when you see that, when we fail to realize all the horrors of that war occurred on a bright sunny day.

      Yep. The pampered brats of today would never have pulled that off. Decades of women in the military, "sensitivity" training, soft city living, this "toxic masculinity" crap and "we all win" competition mindset has destroyed the American male. It's a real shame because we will need some mean SOB's in the coming years to fight what's coming.

    Respect from Russian re-enactors!
    Okay, to be honest, I didn't expect such ending during the whole video. I don't know much about sea landing on D-Day in particular (rather than about the air invasion and the operation in the whole (thx to the 'Brothers In Arms' game and to the number of books, especially to the one by Max Hastings)), so I compared this re-enactment with the legendary beginning of 'Saving Pvt. Ryan'. So, the beginning looked for me unbelievable: from a coast line to the German positions were about 500 meters, no more - which isn't too much to make MG fire ineffective (if they indeed shot - on the video I couldn't hear MGs at the beginning); 'cause of that the rushing in all height after landing looked quite strange.
    But in the other aspects this event is incredible - of course, for the mil-hist show: a lot of props (though the Belgian Gate was too... mocky?), the reasonable organization of the space of action (and the enough scale of this space) and the veracious actions of the squads. In the middle it even became to look like the scene from war series! Will you post the analysis of this event? It would be interesting to inquire how it was organized and compare with our experience. It isn't secret in our community that a many of our events are poorly organized.
    Get some pictures from the 'Overlord' re-enactment just for lulz (I have no relation to this - it just looks surreal and fun) in Severodvinsk, 2014: vk.com/album-124759409_251347411
    As I know, this was the first and last big per-year mil-hist show for 'yankees' and 'tommies' from ex-USSR, which was held from 2014 till 2017 . At the present, our US and UK Army re-enactors mainly goes on the tactic games and hikes - and those look much better.
