Okay, so I’m a chatty little bird today, 😂. But I thought all of us here could appreciate this little story. Went into a bookstore yesterday where I spotted a leather-like journal with a dragonfly on it. Total spontaneous buy, I walked out with it. But when I got it home and opened it up my first thought was, “Oh no, this is not gonna do!” What was inside was not as attractive and did not match the appeal of the outside. A glued-spine paperblock that’s glued to the inside of the cover will not do.🤢So I immediately started ripping the paper block out of it. I’ll replace it with beautiful coffee dyed papers and a simple 3 holed pamphlet stitched signature, and of course, something pretty for the inside of the cover. It’ll be what I expected it to be before we know it. Moral of the story: don’t judge a book by it’s cover😂
My neighbor said she did junk journaling, and she brought her journal to share with me. Surprise!! It was made with a 49 Dragonfly kit, loved it. It is her first journal, you have inspired her. Thank you for all the inspiration you give us.
Hi Barbara, I love your channel and the journals that you make. Just before and during the pandemic, I came across a crafter who made journals with templates. Her journals were stunning, but because I dance to my own drum, I found my creativity I being stiffeld. I wanted to do my own thing. Then I found junk journaling. I don't remember who's work that I saw first, but I was in love with all of you. Just to mention a few of the early ones Gayle, Rachel, Ronda without an h, Chelle and Clint. These people were my paper crafting Gods. Lol. I've added many more junk journals crafter since then, including your channel. I went on watching and copying everything that I was learning, that is, all except the 3 hole panphlet stitch. I was stymied to say the least !!! So i just kept making journals until I had many unfinished journals. So I put them away and kept on watching hoping to find another way to bind them. There are several different ways to do this, accordian fold looke easy, so does the tab method, but after all of my research, I think that the streachy band os the easiest way, but the 3 hole panflet is right on its bacl and probably the most permanet, and now I want to put all of my journals in a craft fair at my senior center 😊 So I have to finish all of them and a few more things that I've made in booth there I have untill 5th of Dec to be ready to set up the booth. Wish me luck !!
You are so cute Barbara, I love that you don't cut out your mistakes because we have all made the same mistakes and sometimes you spare me from the mistakes I haven't yet made. Thank you and LOVE your cover!
I love when I’m thinking about something and it happens the next day. Last night I was going through my Calendar, planning out my May appointments (just Drs. Nothing fun 😢😢😢) and I realized, “Barbara will be making her new Journal cover and showing us her May digitals!” Open Facebook this morning and there it was. So fun! I heard no music. So I think you’re safe. I love your new cover, love the oval, the purple, the sewing, the splatters, the die cuts the thread (but I liked the purple button)… AND…. I’m surprised, I love the inside material too!! I’m glad your rib is healing and I hope you have an amazing vacation with your hubby! Thanks for inspiring us!♥️♥️♥️
I am so happy to hear you are healing! 🥰Pray you continue to heal completely! Wow! Look at you go! Good job on staying on track with your fitness goals! I can't imagine a world where I will ever be tired of watching you create these beautiful planners. Each one is unique and inspirational. Thank you for taking us along and sharing your process! Blessings! 💕💕
I love watching you make new paper bag planners. Doesn’t matter how many times, it never gets old. I absolutely love the new digital kit, will get me a copy as soon as I am done with this post ❤ As far as the intrique die cuts, I add a copy paper as a shim. The good thing with the paper copy is that it is thin enough to not add too much pressure to your machine, and if you need more, you can always add more.
Always inspiring Barbara! Another gorgeous kit 😍. I’m amazed at how you can keep coming up with such beautiful digitals. Thanks for all your efforts and energy to bring the lovely kits and videos to us! Hugs ❤️😘🤗
Love watching you create! Just beautiful journals! Thank you! PS if you flip the dies upside down with the blade up with your paper on top it usually will cut better. Mabey add a couple paper shims. It works so much better for me. Good luck!
I’m glad you’re still showing the making of your newest planners. It helps me to think of new ideas of how to create my own planner for the month. Most months I can take your ideas, and come up with something different that matches my personal style. But I still need that help. So thank you.
I love how you mentioned Darcy, she is great and this community is so awesome because we give each other credit and learn so much from all of you... thank you so much 😗
I used to have the same problem before with my die cuts. I bought a cutting mat from the dollar store and cut it down to fit my cuttlebug machine. Game changer…I don’t have the issues anymore. Btw, I didn’t hear any music and yes, it does look like a bird’s head 😂
Hi Barbara. We cannot hear the music 🎶, so no worries there. But I understand how loud music (that you’re not playing 😂) is disturbing. I never tire of watching your journal cover process. Gorgeousness❣️💜❣️ kudos for all of your exercising and protein diet. It works, so you go girl 🎉 - Robin🌵
So glad to hear of your new three month plan! I’m in accounting and we always work in quarters of three months. This decision of yours makes my old brain relax! Hahaha
Can’t even express how amazing that teabag bellyband is. Gorgeous ❤❤❤ your new kit is beautiful Barbara. I always love your planners. Your style is just yummy and seems to be my jam. I even bought a few paper bags at the grocery store yay🎉😂 I love the stuff you did with the paper bags inside, so fun. I can go on and on. Just really love your planners
For the delicate die cuts I 1. tape the die cut to the paper, make sure that it is taped so that after you cut it won't fall off. 2. Place the die cut down on the bottom plate so that paper is on top of it. (Instructions say paper side on bottom plate) 3. After I cut it, i don't pull the tape off immediately, I put it on the table paper on top, and look to see what looks uncut. If something looks uncut I use the back of the spoon to rub over that area. Use a little pressure and it will complete the cut.
Good for you on the Healthy achievement. So proud. ☺. And what another amazing Journal. Inspiration tugs at me from all directions. I always love to see your page displays. the sizes, colors and textures. The heart of the book before it is filled with the story.
Barbara, as always another gorgeous journal. One of these days I will try that paper bag and fabric. I have collected more paper bags than I will ever use. So now might be the time to try it! As always thanks for the inspiration! Your digitals are beautiful. TFS! ❤
this is a great idea! the paper bag with fabric! where do you get time holtz fabric? I'm in the United States if that matters. I am enjoying your channel!
I love the journal. It’s gonna take me a sec to get used to those two fabrics together. 😅 Have an amazing vacation and enjoy your time with your hubby. You definitely deserve it! ❤❤😊
Thank you Barbara - I actually think I am going to make a monthly journal, I will be checking out your downloads, love the charts :) You're a very graceful crafter....and make this look very easy, I will try not to freak my freak as Luise would say...lol, because I know that comes from loads of experience......Enjoy your vacation!!!
I love how you make these soft cover journals. I'm going to make one but I'm still on the accordion one I started during the winter. I'm having so much fun! I do actually journal in them. TFS🤗
Those recipes looks really yummy! And the kit is so beautiful! I don't mind seeing you create the new cover every four months. It's always enjoyable to see, and this time I got inspired to create a cover for my small art journal I'm creating, while watching your video. 😊 Noisy neighbours isn't fun att all, and notices for not following copyright with sounds can be equally annoying... I once got told off by Facebook for using a sound that wasn't mine... The seagulls were outside, sounding as they do, and Facebook wanted me to get copyright for the sound. I wasn't sure how to ask the seagulls for permission, though... 🙃
I never get tired of watching you construct your journal planners. This one again turned out to be beautiful. Here's a question: Does this journal stay on your desk at home always, or do you ever take it out with you? Do you also make journals that you carry with you?
Oh hahahahaha Barbara, no matter what we decide - - there is nothing more astounding than just how we manage to fill our journals. The plans of mice and of men always go awry. Always chunky monkeys 😅. ❤❤. P.S. Heard no music. ❣
Hi Barbara, I just recently bought a Sizzix machine and it worked great first on the Thinlits. The next day it was doing the same thing as yours and I noticed it seemed to be harder running it through the machine. I finally figured it out. The top layer gets a bow in with use. I had flipped it over without knowing, so that the machine was struggling against the bow as well as trying to cut. It didn't cut through the paper. Once I realised it, I flipped the plastic layer over and it worked!
Hi Barbara. So for intricate dies I have better luck on getting those miserable tiny bits out if I put wax paper over the paper before running through your die cut machine. I have found it to be helpful and I hope it may help you. Love your planner covers and you have me making them too. 😊😊❤
Thank you so much Barbara. Great inspiration as usual. I usually spend my Saturday relaxing and catching up on videos for inspiration and then spend all Sunday drinking coffee and gtea at my desk crafting and having a midday break walking round my local park with a take away coffee. I have just finished my first two altered books and I am about to start a new altered book, I am not brave enough to try to make signatures yet. But I am definitely thinking of putting my dress made from scraps inspired by you previous video either on the cover, or probably on the first page of the book. I love the idea of making the outside and inside of the cover contrast.
I use the watercolor paper from Action to cut out most of my floral dies, this way l can paint/distress them if l wish to. Sometimes l do add an extra piece of cardstock (or watercolor paper ) to add more pressure. But every so often l have a bad die and in the naughty pile it goes! * the Le Grand Bloc watercolor Papier from Boesner also works good…it’s thinner then Actions watercolor paper
Absolutely beautiful journal cover… great video! I noticed the back of your die cuts have the wear pattern of the cutting plate on them. That will affect your die’s ability to cut evenly. There are options for improvement, one is the magnetic die platform for use with intricate dies, but not sure if they are available everywhere. Another thing I have found to work is waxed paper or a new dryer sheet. They can help release the paper with a clean cut. I will also run a couple layers of foil through with the die to sharpen the edges of the die. However, I would invest in some new cutting plates. Hope you find something that works! 😊 have a great holiday! ❤
Thank you Barbara. This kit is amazing. I’ve already used the background pages in an “altered $Tree book” journal. I’ve captured my process in a UA-cam video. Happy Crafting!
Hi beautiful! I finished putting together my planner/journal for the next 4 months today. I just couldn't plan in April. I traveled for training and then hosted A class for 31 attendees. After that I needed to rest and catch up on chores. I decided to not add to my stress level by being upset over not journaling or forcing myself to do it, and then resenting something that should be for fun. So I printed out a couple your journal kits so I can set up the May pages. Thank you for your inspiration.
I have had the same problem with die cuts. I run them through 4 times and poke the pieces out while they are still in the die. I have the same wildflower dies as you and have, at last been successful. I use card stock or watercolour paper.❤
Hi Barbara. Firstly ... gorgeous kit ( I'll definitely buy that in very near future). Secondly, don't worry I couldn't hear any music. Then ... I think I'm starting to get to know you and your way of thinking 😊 since I knew you would choose that " loud fabric " for the inside 💙
I usually run through three times and I use heavy card stock paper when taking out pieces I start when still in die and poke out the little circles first which then pushes them out to , they come out really easy no tearing . love the cover Fabric so kool.
Beautiful new planner! Stunning collection of gorgeous fabrics. (Thanks for the tour of your craft box!) Hope you save all of your "selvage" edge scraps. Have you ever done a project with them??
👀 an awesome way of adding gold accents that aren’t splattering or embossing - use your Gelli plate. Use mixed metallic colour scraps or sheets of normal gold/rose gold/copper/silver etc leaf & stick them to a bare Gelli plate. Flex your plate in every direction to crack the metal leaf if you used whole sheets & you can add some alcohol inks to colour the cracks. You can use your brayer to spread the alcohol inks, although it will also shift some of the gold leaf, but I think that’s cool. Let it dry for a few minutes, add a background layer of paint & pull it like normal. It creates the coolest effect! I’ll go look up the link to the video I saw this on in case anyone wants to try it. Enjoy 😁 And have an awesome holiday Barbara!
This is where I saw the technique - by Created & Made - she has some amazingly creative ideas ua-cam.com/video/6ONO-Dl-Jg4/v-deo.htmlsi=XesfCCwCYlFpfi2h This is a slight variation ua-cam.com/video/4Vm3CDl2tx8/v-deo.htmlsi=bP5pnOd6McZuChns And this is another of her videos, with a cool grungy gilded effect where you put paint down first, create a grungy texture with isopropyl alcohol, then add metal leaf sheets ua-cam.com/video/oFJEulXHUtA/v-deo.htmlsi=WB2bIbKmhavnaMad
I haven’t used fine die cuts in a while, but in past I would run them through with wax paper along with whatever paper I’m trying to cut. That worked to make the pieces pop out easier because of the wax. Just make sure you’re not using uncoated parchment paper…it’s not quite the same. I hope this helps 🥰
It’s ok. We can’t hear the music - well not here In Australia anyway 🙃 Love your new kit & having a nice long video to watch. As to the die cut issue - I know it well! 😩 You need a shim to add to your die cutting plate sandwich. You can buy thin metal shims, or just add sheets of paper as needed on top of your cutting plate or on top of the dies (which will actually emboss the paper & looks pretty when ink is brushed over). But you can also add a thin piece of tracing paper, freezer paper, or non-stick baking paper between your die cut & your paper/cardstock. That will also help you get all the pieces out of intricate dies easily. I have an A4 BigShot so I find I get better cuts if I place my dies along the sides rather than in the middle too. I also have a theory about running a thin layer of candle wax along the dies to help them release the paper, but haven’t tried it yet. It’s the same principle as using dryer sheets but less expensive (as they’re not common In Australia). Hope that helps 😊 Hugs, Carrie
Thanks. I've got a container of water on my desk for that, but maybe it is the medium that I'm using or the types of brushes that I'm using. I'll keep experimenting.
Thank you so much for this! I created a junk journal style planner but I didn't find it very effective. I am a big planner and organized. I love how you've incorporated step tracker and fitness elements. I am going to give this style a try.
Love all of this, didn’t hear the music btw., so I think you’re safe from breaking copyright laws 🤔. Have a wonderful vacation with your hubby. I’m off to buy and work on my May pages 😍😍
The die cutting is frustrating. I find several things can affect this. So look at these things to see if there is anything you can do. First of all, adjust your cutting pressure a bit to make your sandwich thicker. Secondly, I have noticed if my top mat is warped it will cause the paper(thick or thin) to cut in some spots and not in others. Thirdly, some die cutting machines require an additional precision plate to ensure the thinlits cut nicely. Hope this can help. Afterthought: if your plate is very used and no longer smooth it can cause the miscuts as well.
Someone else may have mentioned this but you can put wax paper or parchment paper between your paper and die and sometimes you even get the extra piece from the wax or parchment paper.
Hallo Barbara, ich hatte die besten Resultate ( wenn es um weißes Papier geht) mit den Seiten aus alten Photoalben. Bei farbigem Papier aus alten Pappschnellheftern. Liebe Grüße Martina
Hey Barbara, I’m sure you’ve tried this already, but when was the last time you changed your die cutting machine’s cutting pads? After time they become so worn that intricate dies don’t cut as well, so changing your cutting pads might improve your cuts with the butterfly die? Also, using corn starch or an embossing buddy can help with embossing powder if it sticks where you don’t want it. I’ve never made a fabric journal before - I have added fabric to pages but that’s it. I love how flexible your fabric journal looks! I will see if I have bravery to try it one day…
I don’t have these issues with die cutting, and I die cut A LOT, mainly using 120# cardstock that is no longer available and 130# Canson Watercolor. I don’t think the paper is your issue. With a Big Shot, you can try using a Chrome Precision base plate in place of one of the clear plates. That plate is made specifically for using with intricate dies. Otherwise, you may consider replacing your machine. I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to buy new dies only to have the results you showed. You aren’t doing anything wrong. Unfortunately, I suspect it’s your machine. Your new planner looks amazing!
I feel your pain with die cuts that don’t cooperate-so annoying ! I have better luck adding 2or3 sheets of paper over the top plastic thing and run it through at least 3 times. I’ve used different papers and cheap watercolor paper works better for me than the heavier kind. That said, I have a few dies that never cooperate!
Hi, ich habe genau das gleiche Problem mit den Stanzteilen. Die filigranen Teile sind nicht durchgeschnitten und ich kriege die Reste nicht raus. 😢 Tolles Journal und dein neues Papier gefällt mir sehr gut! 😊
I have the same problem with my die cuts. I'm going to try to use the pokie tool while the paper is till in the die. I thought I was the only one having the same problem having
Lol yes, good plan or they'll get huge 🙊. Ooh you've walked loads! I need a 'shuffle tracker '😄 unless my sticks count too then I'm doing brilliantly🙊. Mine is a 'fat bit' 😄. Mmmm 😋 yummy food! Pleased your rib feels better sweetie 🤗. Oh cubic Frieda! You need more shelving sweetie🙈. I have SO many Amazon bags 🙈. Oh pretty kit 😍. That kit was a year ago?😱. Yes, I have to spread my glue too. Doesn't your neighbour know who you are for goodness sake! 😂. Oh yes the fibres in watercolour paper are longer and flexible. I always use thin card or printer paper and layer them if I want them thicker. I absolutely love your cover 😍😍😍. I really enjoy playing to make papers and collage fodder. They're magical expanding journals. I have that die and never saw the bird head but can't unsee it now 🙊. Gorgeous 😍. Tfs and have a great day and holiday! 💖💖💖

Yay, thank you! 🥰
Your new kit is beautiful! I use 32 lb paper by HP called Premium Matte paper to easily use the Sizzix flower dies you showed.
Thanks for letting me know! ❤️
❤❤❤
Gorgeous new kit!! Same issues with the same dies.😢
Gorgeous new journal!❤
Hi Barbara. So for intricate dies I have better luck on getting those miserable tiny bits out if I put wax paper over the paper before running through your die cut machine. I have found it to be helpful and I hope it may help you. Love your planner covers and you have me making them too. 😊😊❤
Thanks for the tip! ❤️
@@49dragonflies you’re welcome!❤️
Love this new digital kit. Maybe try to turn the die up when you cut. Hopefully, that makes sense. Bottom plate, die facing up paper cover plate
Beautiful journal cover ❤
Go you! Have fun! 😃
Thanks for sharing all your tips! ❤️🥰
So beautiful.
Thank you Barbara. This kit is amazing. I’ve already used the background pages in an “altered $Tree book” journal. I’ve captured my process in a UA-cam video. Happy Crafting!
Wonderful! I will check it out! 😃
Thank you and have fun with them! ❤️
Don’t worry I can’t hear it and I like your journal❤
I have the same problem with some of my dies. Gorgeous planner !🤩🤩🤩
♥♥♥
I have had the same problem with die cuts. I run them through 4 times and poke the pieces out while they are still in the die. I have the same wildflower dies as you and have, at last been successful. I use card stock or watercolour paper.❤
Hi Barbara. Firstly ... gorgeous kit ( I'll definitely buy that in very near future). Secondly, don't worry I couldn't hear any music. Then ... I think I'm starting to get to know you and your way of thinking 😊 since I knew you would choose that " loud fabric " for the inside 💙
Thank you! 😊
Suggest add metal shim under your dies. ❤
I usually run through three times and I use heavy card stock paper when taking out pieces I start when still in die and poke out the little circles first which then pushes them out to , they come out really easy no tearing . love the cover Fabric so kool.
Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Beautiful new planner! Stunning collection of gorgeous fabrics.
(Thanks for the tour of your craft box!) Hope you save all of your "selvage" edge scraps. Have you ever done a project with them??
Thanks! I use those quite often in collages 😊
Add a shim to your die cutter and place the die cutting side up and the paper on top of the die.
Thanks! ❤️
Using a metal shim might help with the die cutting
This is where I saw the technique - by Created & Made - she has some amazingly creative ideas ua-cam.com/video/6ONO-Dl-Jg4/v-deo.htmlsi=XesfCCwCYlFpfi2h This is a slight variation

And this is another of her videos, with a cool grungy gilded effect where you put paint down first, create a grungy texture with isopropyl alcohol, then add metal leaf sheets ua-cam.com/video/oFJEulXHUtA/v-deo.htmlsi=WB2bIbKmhavnaMad
Thanks again, Carrie! Would love to see that video ❤️
Thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences! ❤️🥰
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Love all of this, didn’t hear the music btw., so I think you’re safe from breaking copyright laws 🤔. Have a wonderful vacation with your hubby. I’m off to buy and work on my May pages 😍😍
Thank you sweetie! Have fun with the kit! ❤️
@@49dragonflies printing right now. Excited to start ❤️❤️
Thanks for your tips! ❤️
How have I not embossed using the nested circles stamp?! It's one of my favorite stamps. Love the embossing.
Go for it! I love those stamps so much!
Someone else may have mentioned this but you can put wax paper or parchment paper between your paper and die and sometimes you even get the extra piece from the wax or parchment paper.
Thank you! ❤️
I will see if I have bravery to try it one day…
Thanks for your tips! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! ❤️
I couldn’t get the bubbles to stick to Matt Photo Paper. Maybe it is too resistant when embossing or inking. The journal is beautiful.
I was having the exact same issue. I went to my local scrapbooking store and she sold me a thin little metal plate and all my dies cut perfect now!!
Thanks for the tip! ❤️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ also how much lightening do you have for your videos
Hi, ich habe genau das gleiche Problem mit den Stanzteilen. Die filigranen Teile sind nicht durchgeschnitten und ich kriege die Reste nicht raus. 😢 Tolles Journal und dein neues Papier gefällt mir sehr gut! 😊
Did you use a precision plate for the detailed dies? Tim Holtz told me that would help, so I bought one. I still have to try though.
I have a magnetic plate, is that the same? 🤷♀️. I’m not happy with it at all… I hope you have more luck with yours!
I have the same problem with my die cuts. I'm going to try to use the pokie tool while the paper is till in the die. I thought I was the only one having the same problem having
Nope, seems like many of us do. Pls also check the other comments for useful tips 😊
another question lol, what paper do you use for your signatures? is it tea dyed copy paper?
Yes, it is. I have another video coming out very soon where I show the process of making these again.
Thank you sweetie! Sending good vibes hugs 🥰
