The ambience and environments of Half Life are 100% what intrigued me on my first playthrough. It's so... Eerie and otherwordly despite taking place right in New Mexico.
Talk about setting an atmosphere through music. It's almost as if you're hearing the facility itself, all its noises and different working parts all coming together to make a relaxing music piece while you ride past it all. Genius music design.
The thing I cant get over is how great this conveys is the depth of Black Mesa, particularly the tram ride at the start where this music plays. Like the echo-y groaning in the background reminds me of whale moans in a vast ocean, and the strings that sound like power lines when plucked. It just gives such a sense of scale and mystic.

Fun Fact, In Half-Life's "media" folder, the music files commonly known as "Dimensionless Deepness", "Steam in the Pipes", "Threatening (Short)", "Traveling Through Limbo" and "Vague Voices" are named "prospero01" to "prospero05", which could imply that the tracks were initially made for Prospero, a cancelled MMO Platformer being made by Valve at the time.
One weird thing I noticed on my own channel: I have an unlisted video with Vague Voices in it, and it got claimed by one artist called "Space Fantasy." In fact, if you look in the description of this video at the time of writing, you'll see the same claim. The song they're claiming, "Nebula Mercury," appears to be a remix of Vague Voices and you can find it on UA-cam. The album is, funnily enough, "UA-cam Takedowns - 2021-01-04 12:15:01 ". What a strange album name! This really does look like they're trying to pass off Vague Voices as their own and use this to gain money from anybody using it in their videos. The weird thing is I can barely find any information on "Space Fantasy" anywhere except the fact that their record label is one called Neostatic Sounds, which is based in Russia. I have filed a dispute claim going into detail on how the song I used was not "Nebula Mercury" but was Vague Voices. I will edit this comment whenever I get back on that. In the meantime I encourage anybody reading this to see what you can find about this. If this is properly fraudulent shit, I'd recommend somebody contact Valve, but as the artist is likely from Russia there might not be much we can do about this. UPDATE: 30 days have passed and the claim has automatically lapsed. Should anybody who read this have a similar claim, go ahead and contest it. Imagine installing Half-Life for the first time, you open the game, and in comparison to its contemporaries at the time, you hear no music; no bombastic sound effects no nothing. Even in the tutorial you hear no music; all of it just feels very quiet, the only sound to get used to is the sound of your footsteps, the opening and closing of the doors, the sounds coming from the place you find yourself in and the voices from the few people you encounter, along with a hologram that gives you pre-written instructions in the hazard course. Once you actually start the game, the first audio you hear is this somber, ominous ambience music right before you find yourself in a tram ride, where you can do nothing but move in it while you wait to arrive at your destination. A prelude of things to come in the very near future. Fucking brilliant.

I had.. 😊played half life uplink first. Then half life. I have to say this is the best game of all time and the modifications to it best ever ever. Counter strike. Team fortress. Natural selection mods. Etc. So epic. I'm blessed to have played them all for unmemorable times. When I listen to this music again I can feel a slight bit of that forgotten time. Now this world feels dull and cold boring. But hearing this takes me back to this amazing times. Also blue shift and opposing force expansion were just amazing. I remember in blue shift that level where game begins where you have to turn on the power generator. It was too terrifying 😊. And in the uplink demo the soldiers. Or in opposing force the intro sequence on the osprey chopper.

I don't remember how long ago I played half-life, about 2 years ago. Today I had a dream, I was a soldier or something and we had like 10 people in squad. I remember we were fighting off the combine overwatch forces and menaged to kill a strider. Unfortunately, everything started to go wrong after it turned out that the rest of the combine forces were probably waiting on the other side, and what we defeated was only the outpost. But the worst thing was that the only possible way out was through a scientific complex called Project 15. Talk about setting an atmosphere through music. It's almost as if you're hearing the facility itself, all its noises and different working parts all coming together to make a relaxing music piece while you ride past it all. Genius music design.
The thing I cant get over is how great this conveys is the depth of Black Mesa, particularly the tram ride at the start where this music plays. Like the echo-y groaning in the background reminds me of whale moans in a vast ocean, and the strings that sound like power lines when plucked. It just gives such a sense of scale and mystic.
Every time I travel to Europe, this track gets played at least once with every single train ride I take.

One weird thing I noticed on my own channel: I have an unlisted video with Vague Voices in it, and it got claimed by one artist called "Space Fantasy." This really does look like they're trying to pass off Vague Voices as their own and use this to gain money from anybody using it in their videos. I have filed a dispute claim going into detail on how the song I used was not "Nebula Mercury" but was Vague Voices. I will edit this comment whenever I get back on that. In the meantime I encourage anybody reading this to see what you can find about this. If this is properly fraudulent shit, I'd recommend somebody contact Valve, but as the artist is likely from Russia there might not be much we can do about this.
UPDATE: 30 days have passed and the claim has automatically lapsed. Should anybody who read this have a similar claim, go ahead and contest it. I don't think they care enough to try and rebuke anybody. Where did you see the name of the album in their upload? Because I couldn't see it anywhere... That was possibly a mistake on their part since the description seems to have been made automaticaly by youtube, they later noticed and changed it.

Imagine installing Half-Life for the first time, you open the game, and in comparison to its contemporaries at the time, you hear no music; no bombastic sound effects no nothing. Even in the tutorial you hear no music; all of it just feels very quiet, the only sound to get used to is the sound of your footsteps, the opening and closing of the doors, the sounds coming from the place you find yourself in and the voices from the few people you encounter, along with a hologram that gives you pre-written instructions in the hazard course. Once you actually start the game, the first audio you hear is this somber, ominous ambience music right before you find yourself in a tram ride, where you can do nothing but move in it while you wait to arrive at your destination. A prelude of things to come in the very near future.

Imagine heading to work one day and something just feels off.
I had.. 😊played half life uplink first. Then half life. I have to say this is the best game of all time and the modifications to it best ever ever. Counter strike. Team fortress. Natural selection mods. Etc. So epic. I'm blessed to have played them all for unmemorable times. When I listen to this music again I can feel a slight bit of that forgotten time. Now this world feels dull and cold boring. But hearing this takes me back to this amazing times.
Also blue shift and opposing force expansion were just amazing. I would call this games masterpiece of all time

I remember in blue shift that level where game begins where you have to turn on the power generator. It was too terrifying 😊. And in the uplink demo the soldiers. Or in opposing force the intro sequence on the osprey chopper.

I don't remember how long ago I played half-life, about 2 years ago. Today I had a dream, I was a soldier or something and we had like 10 people in squad. I remember we were fighting off the combine overwatch forces and menaged to kill a strider. Unfortunately, everything started to go wrong after it turned out that the rest of the combine forces were probably waiting on the other side, and what we defeated was only the outpost. But the worst thing was that the only possible way out was through a scientific complex called Project 15. There wasn't even a combine in that place, then in my head during sleep this music started to play and I felt terrified of what must be there, that even the combine does not enter there, despite the force that we barely resisted. That's why this music will stick with me for a long time, the very fact that I never listened to it for too long, and yet its buzzing, disturbing sounds stuck so deeply that I heard them in my dream makes it extremely special
