WAZZUP Y'ALL PART 1
so here is a 3 part video on how to install a backup camera successfully in your w204...ive chosen to break it up due to the length of the video...so i can input as much detail as possible....
i wanted to break the video up so you can choose what you wanted to see
after finishing part 2 i decided im gonna do 3 parts as the video was just too long and i didnt want to overwhelm anyone with too much video....
in this video i show you how to ...
remove your head unit and reinstall
route your video signal cable behind your dash
how to hook up your reverse camera to your head unit
and also
how to activate it using engineering mode
this video is solely about how to remove your headunit and once its removed how to connect the reverse/backup camera using the fakra adapterbut most importantly how you should connect the yellow RCA video signal cable to the rear of your head unit in order to make it work, there a certain way you need to connect the fakra cable and leave the factory fakra connection unplugged, if you plug in the factory fakra using a Y style fakra splitter it will not work...which is why you must leave the factory fakra disconnected... important step..or your camera will not work!!!
then i proceed to show you how to reinstall your stereo and also how to route the video RCA signal cable so that it can drop down to where your foot well is... the routing stops there....
however i do show you how to activate your reverse camera using engineering mode ....the rest of the cable routing will be shown in part 2 aswell as the removal of the boot lining and cover in order to route the cable to the rear boot area next to the rear fuse/SAM unit...
PART 2
in the next video i will be showing you how to
route the signal cable to your rear boot area next to your rear fuse panel and next to your reverse light ..so that you can have the choice to either... wire the power source to your reverse light or simply tap into your fuse panel in your boot ..the choice is yours...
with that said ...
also how to modify your license plate camera so that you can route the cable without destroying it ...as the camera does need some modifying as you will see in part 2 due to how the cable is fitted
the better choice would be to obviously wire it to your reverse light
so that your camera will only be activated and turned on when you engage reverse..rather then constantly running once you switch your ignition on... which will be shown in part 3
thats the problem with using a 12v switched power source for your reverse camera...although it will work...you will also degrade the life span of your camera due to using a 12v switched power source....
hence why it be preferable to wire it to your reverse light .... so it will only turn on once you engage reverse gear ....and turn back off again once you disengage reverse gear...
the reason for using these methods are due to the electrical system of the car ....if it detects a voltage drop, it will display an error ,message and or you will get interference for your camera display, introducing fuzzy lines or inconsistent display on your display screen.. therefore using these methods will solve that problem.
all this will be shown in the next video(s)
i didnt want to make the video too long and overwhelm anyone with too much info in a single video..so be sure to tune in for the next videos where i continue the rest of the install...

thanks mate next 2 vids will.be routine signal cable and then removing boot trim and lining to access license plate light assembly to install either boot handle camera or license plate light camera.... and cuz the video is so long I broke it up into 3 parts ....last video will show how to wire to backup light using rectifier capacitor and relay .... any method will suffice to reduce noise/fuzzy lines and error messages

For anyone with a 2013 w207 or any merc with the ntg4.5 system the connection you use is the left side of the double barrel green input on the rear of the head unit, you can't connect a fakra cable straight into it, you need to carefully remove the plastic shroud from the fakra lead that comes with your camera (or you may have bought the adapter lead separately), there's a little plastic retaining clip on the adapter lead which pops off with a pick, then you need to push the inside lead out, don't pull it by the wire, its tight but it does push out, use a plastic stick of some sort (i used a plastic lego axle!) and then push the connection into the left side (looking at the back of the head unit) of the green double barrel socket, then follow the steps to set up the head unit to recognise the camera, mine worked on the first setting, think its srvc, and enable it on selection of reverse gear, thats it. I hope this helps someone as I couldn't find anyone who could tell me which socket the camera should connect to.
good tips 👍 also wen ur never sure which fakra to connect ..trial and error never hurt ..same way u do the selection video signal... that's how I've always done it .. I'm not a professional..so I always test things ... trial and error as they call it

Thank you for the video, Do you happen to know where is the amplifier located on C300 2010, having issues with no sound, changed all the fuses, still no sound. Dealer told me amplifier issues but wanted $6200 to fix.
its in the boot behind carpet on left hand side ..remove the carpet cover for tail light and look behind it towards the front on the side above the rear wheel
Good explanation 😉 but the display trigger line where is it..where is conected the red wire ???
because we have a function in our system that we select ... you dont need the trigger wire unless you are using an after market system ..its designed for after market systems like pioneer that have a trigger wire ... wen installed u go into engineering mode in the system and select display cam wen engaging reverse that is kind of like our trigger for reverse camera ... hope this helps mate..
Hello mikey it's been a long time after your w204 videos i know but i have a question. Can you remember when car is running but comand is fully off and then you put the car in reverse does the screen automaticlly pops out or you have to open comand yourself to see the camera ?

Hello there , I have the small screen 4inch and I want to swap it to the flip one ! I know you need the whole set with unit ,vents and screen to make it work ! I have found the whole set I just don’t know if it needs any rewiring as the units are different at the back ! Thanks in advance

Hello again sir! You helped me already with the power for the rear camera, but now I have a different problem. My car is not a w204, it’s a C207 and, even though I have NTG4.0, the back side of my radio unit is different, the fakra cables are “double”. Do you know how can I connect it? Thanks!
Did you ever get an answer, im having the same problem, Chinese camera with useless instructions, I have a double green connector plus a single green above it, ntg4.5 head unit, c207. Set head unit to recognise camera and activate on R gear, it tries but just gives a blank screen. Did you get yours to work?

@@anantvats5539 ahh i see.... i have heard that this is possible my friend however you will need to buy all the appropriate parts in order to make it fit..... i remember seeing ppl talking about it on the mercedes benz forums and other ppl were telling this person that it is indeed very doable... however i cannot give you specific as i have never done anything like that before.... imho i would do alot of research and a great place to start is the mercedes benz forums...there you can ask as many questions and inquire about almost anything and there are skilled mercedes benz technicians and mechanics who can help you find the right answers... im self taught and i DIY at home...however whenever i can help a fellow subscriber i will always do my best to help guide you dear friend

but remember only if you have the MMI add on to unit u can do this, if not , u can only add after market unit or use a cheap fm tuner for bt music
Hello Mikeyz. I just followed part 1 flawlessly. I do have one question. When you connected the long rca video signal to the fakra rca adapter, the rca video signal cable side also has a red exposed wire attached. What are you supposed to do with that red wire?
that is only for aftermarket systems, ppl use it for triggering aka trigger wire usually a purple wire ..so unit turns on wen u switch ignition on or even power... but in our case we don't need it cuz we have an automated system that recognises the camera already

Hey Mikey. I was just about to reply and you beat me to it. I just got back from the garage. i skipped to video 3 for connecting the power to the camera and did a test and it all worked. It was great to see the camera on as soon as I shifted to reverse. I did nothing with the red wire from the rca video signals on either end. I was about to say that they must not be needed for our application but you beat me to it.
Now tomorrow or next week I have to do video 2 which seems like toughest part.

nothing as u dont need a trigger wire... thats only for wen u connect to different cars that need a trigger wire
Hi can you tell me how to connect a camera to the back of a c207 ntg4.5 head unit, it has a double green connector which in my car has one lead connecting to a fakra input wire although there's no factory fitted camera so don't know what thats for, above the double green socket is a single fakra socket, currently nothing connected to that. I tried the camera input in both sockets but it didn't work, I set the head unit up as you showed and when I select reverse gear the screen goes black with a safety message on it so it knows there should be a camera but no image comes up. Any help is appreciated thanks.
hmm that's abut strange as it should read it .. did u also select the right video output like svcr .. try selecting each until u get video

u must have pulled a cable , that plugs the hazard warning lights, do u rememebr removing a cable that plugs intot he hazard lights ??

the red wire is only needed If u have an aftermarket screen and it has a trigger wire for your display screen ...if ur just connecting the reverse camera to your facTory screen the yellow av cable is all u need to plug in and just leave the red wire disconnected as we dont need a trigger wire for our w204 ....unless ofcourse u install and aftermarket screen

u shouldn't need to ..once u connect the camera test it and make sure u get video.. once u do ..its done .and reinstall everything ... unless u are asking about something else..pls elaborate
@@MIKEYZVLOGZ when I connected my power cable from camera to fuse in the boot and set retrofit camera in engendering mode to FBAS I have constant image on screen but I don't have sat nav working, again when I connected to reversing light no signal at all. In engendering mode I have only option to install or not install reversing camera and maybe this is a reason why is not working with reversing gear? Should be part of you Camera If your camera has parking lines you will have it as well if your camera does not have parking lines it will not show
@@MIKEYZVLOGZ i turned off the integrated camera lines, but the car itself overlays it's own lines on top of the camera feed.
Whats the fnction of the factory fakra cble?
depending on the options of your car usually a fakra cable is for a factory video signal either a backup camera or an additional video signal..especially if it green ... now there are other fakra connections aswell but they are for other properties..Mercedes have just chosen to use that type of connection rather then the common connectors like RCA etc... just merc being merc

if u dont have a factory camera .. nothing will happen... its there for future installs hence a reverse camera
