Nathan Becker, was asked to make a military utility knife to compete with the U.S.M.C. Ka-Bar, and I think he nailed it with the BK-7, the fact is, it's stronger than the leather handle rat tail tang design, it is a military utility knife, but, it's also great in the bush, believe it or not, its very similar, between a military utility use, and Bush knife for survival/bushcraft, at least I think it is, it's lighter than my CarbonV Recon Scout, and it's the same steel, the Recon Scout is 5/16th thick, which would be a bit heavy for a soldier to carry with all the other things they need to carry, that brings me to the point, it does lack a little in chopping, because it's light, not a problem for a Bush guy like me, I'm usually a 3knife carry guy anyhow, and a backpack is a must, the BK-7, is part of one of my favorite sets, with a BK-17, for my more delicate use, and the Ka-Bar Swabbie, for my heavy duty chopping, the BK'7, is on person, just in case I'm seperated from my pack, I feel it's a great choice, and I could trust my life on it, it's a tough knife, and not too heavy, great camp knife, with this set, I can build, shelters, process wood, make firestix, dig, if I had to, and everything that one wants to do in the bush, Thanx, for this well done video, I think we have one of the best knives made for the money, but if your into knives, check out the Swamp Rat Rodent 7, the Swamp Rat's are my favorite, because of the steel they use, the SR101, is a Deferentially Tempered Ballbearing Steel, also known as 52100, it's actually my go to set, with the Rodent Solution, Ratmandu, and the Rodent 9, as my 3knife carry, add the Rodent 7, and I feel I have the 4 best knives made for the money, life depending knives, but I still like my Beckers, for the money, their great, Thanx, and keep up the good reviews.
Great review all the way around. I have the BK7 and love it, because I am big on have a “cutting tool” on your person rather than in a bag this is one item I immediately put on. Because fire is so important, in the sheath is my magnesium fire starter striker.
Bogart394 I hear you. The BK7 would make a great addition to any camping or hiking adventure to say the least. The pouch on the stock sheath would be an ideal place to store some type of fire source for sure.
That's exactly how your supposed to use the ramp, just like you did, I believe the ramp is intended for knives withought choils, to be used as you did for delicate work, as far as the smooth handle, the ergonomics of the handle is in my opinion, one of the best designs, I NEVER had any slippage problems when wet, and the Grivory is an excellent material, I even like it better than the Micarta, Except For The G-10, which is my favorite, it's made like the Micarta, but with Fiberglass, instead of cloth fibers, anyhow, Thanx alot.
red5llaw I've been very happy with the stock sheath. I managed to pick up the BK13 Remora a while ago for the secondary sheath in the pouch. Ranger band and adjustable paracord lanyard are the only mods. I did have to reposition the button snap to accommodate the additional handle width from adding the ranger band though. I already had paracord to make up the lanyard and picked up the bicycle inner tube for the ranger band and new button snap retainer from Wal-Mart. Pretty basic stuff.
Can someone please show me details on how the ranger band goes on, or what size tube to use, I would prefer a snug band that slides on as opposed to Wrapping it. Thanks
+Christian Lamers Measure the diameter of the handle you wish to rubberize and purchase a bicycle inner tube (ranger band) a few milometers smaller. Cut to desired length and stretch over handle into position. I no longer have a ranger band on the BK7. I replaced it with a tennis racket over-grip. It's much easier to do and provides a superior grip. For added security I also used two small ranger band rings at each end of the over-grip to help keep it fixed in position.
You mentioned the extra sheath inside the outside tool pocket, that fits the bk13 Remora (5 1/4" overall with 2 1/4" blade). Do you think the entire bk14 (in sheath) (7" overall would fit in the bk13 Remora sheath's place?
Did not really like the screws in the BK7 after buying the blade second hand. Seems to let in dirt and rust easily into places in the handle and tang that most people would not clean in the field. Also, the screws tends to slowly unscrew and after a while - whith tape around the handler - they will rattle inside the tape (mine did). Screws can be replaced with stainless steel ones, but not that easy and cheap to get the exact right ones. Some grip tape does not handle water well enough so needed to use waterproof tape first then grip tape on that... The sheath collected water and kept the knife wet long after rain. Getting a real sheath is strongly recomended. This sheath is clearly oversized and the mounting options are not very practical if you intend to have the knife at your belt and not mounted on a bag. What good does all those mounting options do if the knife is not secure in the sheeth? Also, who relies on velcro for belt attachments and see a snap button as the 'extra'? The velcro will wear out sooner than you think. All in all, the sheath is a big rattle.
I was looking to buy this knife, but i'm a little against handles that are this smooth, what do you think? For heavy use would you say the handle of the bk7 is too smooth? Compared to the handle of rubber?
Oscar koksvik johansson Yes, the handles are on the smooth side but it hasn't been a concern for me at all. I did add a ranger band to "rubberise" the handle though. Proper use of a lanyard during heavy tasks is safest in my opinion.
Excellent...modifications allow for quality time. I've spent countless hours personalizing and crafting as well. Always a pleasure communicating with a fellow connoisseur.
GunsOfMassEfferct, I've been pricing this knife on multiple sites at between $90.00 to 100.00, which is reasonable for a 7'' knife. You should also look at PreparedMind 101 for his review of this knife.
I have woodland camouflage G10 handle scales on my BK7. The Knife Connection has them in lots of colors. I now have the perfect knife!👍
No doubt one of the greatest all around knives out there !
Very detailed reviewed buddy! shared it out for you!
Thanks Chris!
The BK 2,7,and 9 are the toughest knives on the planet! Everybody ought to have one.
+James Cooper Great value for the cost for sure James...affordable, durable and reliable!
I have all three very very well-made knives
X-O-LENT review!! I love my BK-7. It, with a folding saw, meets all my bushcraft and camp task needs.

paulie 4x Who knew...holding it as such just felt right to me.
This is just a fucking beauty!!!!!!!
Very good review, I would have loved to see your final mods and comments on keeping the stock sheath. Thanks!

I like your Bracelet, I like to know from where you got it ?
Good review dude I might think of getting this knife
Nick Velasquez You get a lot of bang for you buck with the BK7. It hasn't let me down yet. Thanks Nick!
What type of metal is this Knife made of? Is it a Type of Stainless?
10 anos após esse vídeo ser postado, acabei de comprar minha primeira BK7
TYVM, I started some research, and found them on Amazon for low as $79, think I will try to get two.
High carbon content, good idea to oil the edge for long term storage.

Nick Conti No problem Nick...thanks for stopping by!
