I get and respect that many people play Guard because it's a rare army that lets you play almost nothing but tanks, but nothing stirs my heart more than seeing waves and waves of Dudes marching forth into battle.
Ive been into cadians and the lore of cadia for a long time, finally decided to try this game via table top simulator, i knew i was going Astra Militarum, i youtubed AS 1k list saw your name and had to watch, built this list with armoured sentinals and went up against my experienced friend with necrons, i wiped the floor with him and he was devastated, i have now bought my combat patrol boxes and begun painting using your tutorial, thank you for the amazing content and helping to start the begining of a long and fulfilling hobby. CADIA STANDS
I haven't played since 4th edition but I have bought a few Cadia Stands boxes. I love the new models. I might have to go try 10th edition and see how it is. Thank you for putting this together.
I’m trying to paint 3000 points for the Narrative this year, seeing this many models at only 1k points make me go. “Shit this is gonna be alot of work.”
Tanks. Add tanks and Artillery. That Rogal Dorn is 1/3 of that list and honestly you could stop with just 4 squads of infantry. Sentinels are amazing and paint up fairly quickly.
I got the Cadia Stands boxset. Even though I don't play, I like the new scuplts compared to the sculpts from 20 years ago. The screaming/yelling heads don't look constipated this time. I magnetized one squad so far and the ordinance batteries. I guess the batteries don't need magnets since there are slots for weapons to fit into. But the magnets keep it more secure in case a knock makes it fall off. Also I got the plastic Kasrkins and been magnetzing them too. It's going to be fun trying to figure out how to magnetize the demo trooper to swap out the torsos.
This is awesome thank you! Been looking for a second army for a while, to play instead of my Space Marines and this may have sold me on the faction and helped me build the army
Hey man! Thank you for the video. Have played off and on for years and have Grey Knights currently. Your video convinced me to start Guard! Picked up all the boxes you mentioned. Would love to see a very thematic casual all comers type list for 2000pts!
good roundup. I do have another recomidation regarding the infantry proxy: paint every 20man in different collours. this way you are not forced to play every inf in your list as the same unit (or getting prone to misremembering them). for example one 20man unit has the standart green/brown collour as it is now and the other get black/grey instead. now you can go into a game, say the green unit are cadians, the black unit are DKoK (or whatever you want to play) and neither you or your opponent will misremembering them. ofc you can still use both units as the same and even here it is helpfull to keep the units seperated, if they end up next to eachother during the game. this way you can also keep a theme of the army (like all cadia or all krieg) while still playing different battleline units, if you want to
I did something similar with my Guard. My normal 20-man "Cadian"/Infantry squads have a Skavenblight Dinge/Stormvermin Fur colour palette. My other 20-man unit is painted a shade darker, weathered to hell and back with drybrushes, and modelled to sport ad-hoc melee weapons, improvised armour and additional bandoliers of ammunition. These are my Catachan/DKoK stand-ins whenever required.
I've read the books for a couple years now, and thanks to space marine 2 friends have gotten into the setting. One of them even wants to try the TT with a Nid CP. I grabbed the IG CP now I'm just trying to learn everything about the game.
Nice starter list and I like the limited number of boxes! Cadian Castellan doesn't come in the combat patrol box as far as I can tell. For folks that want to stick to the 3 boxes could probably kitbash from the spare field ordinance crew and leftover bits, or could drop them and use the points to take the second field ordinance battery?
Oh no! You're right... not sure if I cna fix that error now in the video. Ugh... for some reason I thought I got both of mine in the Cadia Stands boxset, but it must have been from separate purchases. Fork...
Crazy that points cuts now allow you to fit either drill commander and 5 scions or grand strat and 10 Catachans. Catachans would be my preferred for narrative, but scions would be more competitive
The one drawback with Krieg is their resin command & troop squad kits don't come with medics, only in the plastic kits are the parts for medics. I got caught building Krieg by building too many plasma gunners & vox, which meant I needed to get more Krieg to not waste those minis. If I want to make other Guard unit types into Krieg will require kitbashing.
I think this is a great starter list! 6 units is a nice amount to keep track of whilst also allowing for diversity of units. Also it's quite easy to collect. Please correct if wrong! I make it 960. Personally I'd drop both castellans and one of the command squads. I'd put in 2 primaris pyskers and creed in instead and give the command squad grand stratagist. 4++ is better than sustained fire. Creed is good. I've a different taste in vehicle and special weapons load outs. I prefer higher strength longer range than yourself but it's horses for courses. Thank you for sharing this great list!
I forgot to mention the Enhancements but they are listed in thr video description. I do recommend Grand Strategist and Drill Commander if the points don't go up too much. A Tech Priest would also be another really good option. I like your ideas too.

I just kept piling infantry ontop of infantry until i randomly bought one it the guard section of the store Also if you want to be barred from ever playing against the knights players in your group you could build this list: 2x regimental enginseer 2x shadowsword running 4x lascannon 4x heavy bolter
I would definitely build 2 of each special weapon for the Cadians and have 1 blob of Flamers/Meltas, and the other have Grenade Launchers and Plasma. Grenade/Plasma combo is a swiss army knife in how you can deal with stuff, plus you can get FRFSRF to work on Plasma if you really want to just throw a ton of Plasma everywhere.
Personally, I think you have too much anti-light infantry. At a minimum I would switch out all flamers for grenade launchers and missile launchers on the Sentinels. Still gives you the option of anti-light infantry, but gives you much better anti-medium/heavy infantry and even some anti-light/medium armor. All your own infantry with their lasguns are basically anti-light infantry on their own.

Great starter list, I'm starting a guard army and was just wondering if it would be worth dropping a Castellan for Creed and a Commissar perhaps? What would your thoughts be?
I think it would. Creed is a great pick, but you do lose the Sustained Hits and fall back and shoot buffs. The tradeoff is a free Battle Tactic Stratagem each term. The Commissar is more useful than some folks realize.
This is very true. Luckily if a unit is just wiped out in a single turn, you don't have to worry about that. The work around is to do the one thing no one recommends but works... use a Commissar.

2:41 "This gives me hentai infantry, this gives me hentai armor"
I need to work on my "an" sounds 🤣
Yeah or start a Slaaneshi army, either way.
Hahaha.. Wow.. Great minds think alike. I just got that
Right on! 😃 For the Emperor!
Im sorry but where can I get the infantry patrol packs, I could only find them on a sketchy Chinese website for 100 dollars.
And by the way do they come pre painted or do I have to paint them my self because I would like to paint my own custom regiment…
Do you mean Combat Patrol? Those should be available via Games Workshop or other third party retailers.
@@CadianSergeantSteel yes, and I just realized the website is the top miniature model seller in my area. But do you recommend the patrol as a beginner set?
@johannr2658 definitely. It's a great starting force.
@@CadianSergeantSteel cool, just one more question (sorry if I’m kind of annoying) do all the infantry stances come as full figures already built or do I have to put all the different bodyparts together?
So I don't get have a rogal dorn yet but I do have a bunch of lemon russes. What should I sub for the rodal?
I would substitute a Vanquisher as an Oppressor Cannon Rogal Dorn loadout
Thank you@@CadianSergeantSteel
Hello! I see you have a big magnifier lamp in the background. Do you know of any that are 15-20x or more?
15-20? I'm not sure I understand.
@@CadianSergeantSteel 15 power to 20 power magnification. Also shown as 15x and 20x. I'm trying to find quality glass capable of higher magnification because all I can find is up to 10x.
Oh, okay. I'm sorry, I don't think I'm very knowledgeable about studio lighting then. I bought a set that had the kelvin rating I wanted and diffuser sheeta over them, which is all I was looking for. I am less familiar about the magnification rating of them.
@@CadianSergeantSteel oh no. I wasn't talking about the studio lighting. I meant the magnifying lamp behind you on the right of the screen. So when you're sitting your left. So it's a ring lamp with a magnified lens in the center for detail work like paioting. I have a 10 power already and was wondering if you knew of any models with higher magnification.
OOOOH! Sorry, that makes WAY more sense to me now 😅 that is just a phone holder and is how I shoot video while painting. For magnification I use jewlers glasses or whatever you call them.
what three box sets did you get to make this army
Two Combat Patrols, a Cadian Castellan, and a Rogal Dorn. That will leave you with an extra set of Field Ordnance Battery models.
Do you find you are using more CP on overwatch since the flamers would auto-hit? Are opponents choosing to not charge the sentinels with that loadout?
I rarely do. It's typically not enough to make a difference. But depends on the charging unit, really.
@@CadianSergeantSteel Thanks, I mainly run autocannon on the sentinels. With that loadout overwatch doesn't really seem worth it as the CP is better spent elsewhere.
@@entimger_heggie autocannons are honestly underrated
lol 😆 love the open with the chainsword. Cool channel 🫡
