Fellow West Virginian here. Humidity is a bih for painting. I love the channel. Ive been into 40k since 99 and started with catachans. Played some of the old 2nd edition, a lot of 3rd, whatever was out in 2013, and whatever edition was out in 2016-2017. Recently got back in and saw they were up to 10th. Im so busy ill probably never play now, but im still building and painting. I got a dehumidifier in my garage so i can prime all year long. No more waiting for our 5 months with dry air to prime everything! As long as you don’t mind getting light headed. For the Allfather!
In the midst of doing my 40 Cadians to make your starter 1000pts list :) glad to see mine don’t look too different from yours! Bugmans glow as a base for flesh is a great shout and something I’m gonna use for the remaining.
Wow, you use almost the same palette that I do. I looked at the other green they used and said, "Nope!" Castellan Green is the green for Cadia! This is such a great video and I know you're helping a lot of Guardsmen with this. Keep up the great work, Sarge!
I feel the same. Vulkan Green doesn't look right IMO. I've not gone quite a far as this with so many additional highlights or transfers but will come back to them in time
Very nice tutorial. I have been looking for methods to paint my marines from Aliens: Another Glorious day in the Corps. I also really like that you don't have super obnoxious background music playing every time you aren't speaking like most other channels.
Your channel is a godsend! I've just got started on the hobby and your step-by-step instructions and walkthrough is just precious for newbies like me. Thank you!
This video really helped me a lot with painting the cadians of the combatpatrol but i have a question on their loadout: I am gona make a big 20 man squad with two plasmas, one grenade launcher and one melta + one cadian command squad (normal loadout: flag, commander with plasma pistol and power weapon etc...) but i can't decide if i give the veteran who can only take a special weapon a flamer or a plasma. If i give him the plasma the unit has 3 (or 7 at half range) plasma shots and with an order even 10! But when i take the flamer i have the a weapon which is strong when i meet horde infantry/enemys in cover and if i meet somehing tough like a terminator i still have the option to shoot with one plasma shot (because the veteran has special weapon + plasma pistol) So this option is more versitle but only works at 12 inches So... What's your opinion on this? Which option is better to take?
I would go Plasma as it is a more versatile weapon. Your lasguns will do the heavy lifting against horde armies. I take flamers just to scare my opponents away from close engagement.
Always amazes me on how mant paints are used. Im still only using like 4-5 😅 mayb one day ill work up to this level i hope. whats an average time spentper mini? Like i did a batch of 7 troops in like 6hrs which i think i was kinda happy with (1ish hrs per mini)
@@CadianSergeantSteel ok awesome, always feel like I spend too much time but seems average. Infantry army suck xD i need to get used to speed paints perhaps.
I used the equivalent of a Medium Layer and Small Layer brush from Games Workshop. I think at one point I definitely used a 2/0 and a 00 from Redgrass Games.
@@CadianSergeantSteel I heard somewhere that the first table top Kreig army were converted from Steel Legion. Kreig have very cool looking skull gas mask, I think they would work well on updated Steel Legion.
@@CadianSergeantSteel bust out the nodoze trooper, you've got the Emperor's work to do. Seriously though, quit before you hit the wall. The area of diminishing returns is well before it.

So thankful for this faction specific channel. Your painting tutorials are fantastic.
Thanks for saying that 😁 I really appreciate it and glad you enjoy them!
Another fine example of the Sergeant Steel method. well done

That's awesome to hear! Painting 40 is a tough go but hopefully this helped out a little. CADIA STANDS!!!
You earned yourself a sub. You're nearly as addicted to 40k a I am.
I need to do an army photoshoot again. My collection has become... insane...
I was that bloke asking about the leather on Insta, thank you for the update sargent!

Awesome, thank you! Glad Tim helped you to find me.
The holy grail of cadians
I found the Citadel Lahmian Medium and Army Painter mixing balls can tame Corax White and White Scar.
Thanks Sarge! This is amazing!
Glad you like it! 😃
maybe a tutorial for beginners on how to quickly paint tanks and infantry using 4-5 paints?
Yes, that is something I am looking to do. I want to come up with several Contrast paint videos to help with this.
@@CadianSergeantSteelwould definitely watch that. As a new player the amount of paint used here seems overwhelming
I really appreciate this video
I appreciate you watching it and glad you found it valuable 😃
Love watching this, thank you
You're very welcome!
Btw do you have tutorial for your plasma? I saw your Kasrkins and its awesome :)
I do! It's a little older but it checks out: ua-cam.com/video/FU7bqZY-33w/v-deo.html

Very similar to my method, I just use death guard green for the armor!
Oh very cool! I would like that lighter tone.
Yes! Thank you man

I would like to see how you paint your Traitor guard.
That's definitely coming!

Woohoo awesomee 💪🫡
Do you have a video comparing the old kit and the new kit?
I do! It's buried in here somewhere...
Oh, so apparently I do not. I mistook me discussing older kits for me doing a comparison.
@@CadianSergeantSteel darn it you usually have thorough videos on topics you do and this was one I was hoping for.

For this level of painting (most of my other armies don't get this kind of attention) it's roughly 2 hours per model.
@@CadianSergeantSteel ok awesome, always feel like I spend too much time but seems average. Infantry army suck xD i need to get used to speed paints perhaps.
Do all Cadians have purple eyes? Or is just more common and like us they have blue, brown etc
Purple if they were raised on Cadia. Lore is living under the Eye of Terror gave them purple eyes
Do you provide painting services?
I used to but haven't for years now. My struggle is my pile of potential is too large as is and being an event organizer keeps me quite busy.
What brushes do you use??
I used the equivalent of a Medium Layer and Small Layer brush from Games Workshop. I think at one point I definitely used a 2/0 and a 00 from Redgrass Games.
How about a Steel Legion tutorial?
Possibly. I was going to work on some Contrast Paint options for guard and a Krieg tutorial. But that might be in the cards down the road.
