Loved seeing Santa Maria from your eyes, guys! Also surprised and stoked to hear your little shoutout 🤣 Glad we could share some of our fuel!
Thanks again for dinner and diesel!!! Hope you are doing well
This thumbnail is S O ! Beautiful.
Thank you for living the life that I wish I had the courage to live. You guys are awesome! Keep up the good work!
Another outstanding video. Alie great job on the edit. I really enjoyed the surfing shots, and the b-role of the sunsets and the villages were brilliant. Thanks for taking us along on your shore excursions with you. It shows that your adventures are more then just sailing and surfing. I truly enjoy traveling with you virtually as you explore new places. Looking forward to your next adventure. Until then, be happy, be safe, and enjoy the Mexican culture.
Another very nice video. The way you’re popping up on your board makes you appear much more confident Alie. A place where the people are wonderful. A brief glimpse of humanity the way wish it always was. Thanks. Stay safe.
Thanks Steve!
Great video series. I took my oldest daughter out on three different sailing trips on the coast of BC. She said to me a few months ago “ dad every time we go sailing some thing always breaks. “. Just so you know guys. It wouldn’t be the sailing life style if some thing didn’t break
I've been looking for a sailing channel like this one for years: surf, sail, good wholesome content. Thanks guys & enjoy making quality content.
Hey! The sailing/surfing isn't a huge niche but those who are into it, are INTO it :) welcome to the channel!
I have watched Madison Boatworks it's a pretty cool Channel 2
We agree- the content truly is great! We love seeing the wholesome sailing content! Definitely top quality!
Look at you guys, living the life. Enjoy and stay safe.
Wow! Great video, you two! Vicariously living your adventure, from Kamloops. Love the Baja, awesome folks, great vibe, in most places I experienced. Loved the little out of the way places best.👍🏻😎
The pure joy on your face while surfing and talking about surfing was a great way to start my morning. Enjoy 2023!

The smile on Alie's face when she's dialed-in on the board says it all! Top stuff!
Stoked to see where your adventure goes! I’m cruising down Baja myself soon so maybe I’ll run into you guys in the sea of Cortez later on 🤙🏼
The surfing cam shots are epic. I can feel how fun that is through the video.
Have not watched you guys for a while. The sail along the coast and the sound of the waves were incredible. I miss my boat now. :-) looks like an incredible journey.
Welcome back!
Awesome episode... love all the surfing, need to see other channels doing more of this 🤙
Thanks Mike! We surf every chance we get!
Your surfing skills have improve dramatically, good on you.
So excited to to have surfing, sailing and good people to watch and wish it was me! Just found you and subscribed. Great video and love the surfing!
Nice love to bring the surf interested viewers (it's a fairly low percentage - most of our surf content tanks)
Looks amazing, so cool to wander around small towns to explore and meet the locals.
It really is!
Another beautifully shot and edited episode. Love the surfing and drone footage. I'm surprised at how sparsely populated Baja is......and we now know cash is king!
Thanks Ron!
@3:07 - nice wave! Well done!
Beach landings! Found if we tilted up motor 1 notch, and dropped wheels while still outside any break, we could then do a commando run at beach, and wheels would prevent any prop damage. :)
Good thinking!
Well done you two! 14:17
Cool video. I love your ride!
Super episode - you guys are the best 😊👍
Thanks buddy!
Great background music!!! Super videography and amazing editing... loved the 'breaking wave " fade.... great work thanks for entertaining.... a comment is literally the least we can do in return for entertaining us!!!! G'day eh from Surrey, BC
Thanks Don!
We enjoyed the edited as well! We know first hand how much time and dedication it takes to create and then EDIT an entertaining video. Props to them!
Groovy video
You two are awesome and I probably will never try surfing after 4 or 5 attempts from Hawaii to El Carpentaria CA to Ocean City Maryland.. But maybe I'll learn some of what I should have tried different .. I used to snowboard or to snurf on Snurfers (without the ropes) before Burton came along. But getting up on a surf board for more than a second or two was not to be. Loved Slaters surfing game .. I COULD FLY !!
It’s not easy for sure!
Yay for friendly people, sailing, surfing and reading Bill Bryson!
Look at that water and you were able to ditch the wetsuits! Living the dream :)
Tasty waves. Sushi lunch. Sunset paradise
Exciting adventures!
That place is absolutely stunning
I like real sailing channels. Really appreciate your content . I to live on a yacht with my dog
We do as well, Andre. What type of dog do you have? We have a Collie mix. We will feature her in one of our episodes soon as well!
Outstanding
Couldn’t help but click 🔥 😍 great episode guys!
😘 see you soon?!
Best new sailing channel live it🌊🏄♀️🏄
Wow, thank you!
Subscribed!!
Your story telling has really improved. This was a great episode, good job.
Thank you so much!
Storytelling is such an important aspect of having a sailing channel! We have discovered this with our own channel also! We too enjoyed that aspect of this video!
Hemingway - To have and have not. Nice. 🙂
Really great episode, first class editing, especially enjoyed the surfing content, best part of the video is 14:07.........
Glad you enjoyed it!
This doesn’t help you now, but if there’s an ATM in town, you can always withdraw pesos with your debit card. Probably get hit with a small fee. But I’ve gone this route many a time
What a beautiful place Mexico is
Totally!
Nice !!!
OMG guys!! It is NOT just ya'll!! Boats float, and boats break... it's boats. You are NOT alone and you are doing great!!
and...
Everyone is Gilligan Sometimes... =]
Wow....when we were in Santa Maria there was over 200 boats!
Nuts! You musta been on the haha
Awesome❤❤
I was in CA. just learning to surf when jaws came out, That next weekend setting on my board and something Big swam under me and trying to get my feet on the board and watch it, I fell in and came out like a seal right over the board and I almost drowned. I have never gone in the ocean after that! Even when in desolation sound once I tried to look at my keel but I panicked. SO I stay in the boat and the fish stay in the water!
Because we travel the world and document it on camera....and I (Amber the wife of the channel) want to still feel comfortable in the water I refuse to watch shark week haha! I think I would be panicked in your situation as well, though. Happy sailing!

Great video, love it. Sailing surfing, thats my new lifestyle as of about a year ago. Left South Australia on my boat named Wombat II. I've sailed approx 3,000km around to the Great Barrier reef now. But am making plans to sail 8,000km to Mentawai Island's Indonesia. Which, no word of a lie is the promised land for sail surfing. If there is a better sailing surfing destination on this planet then I don't know of it. An adventure like no other
Amazing - hope to reach the ments someday too!!
@@BreakingWavesSailing I'm going to live at the end of this wave ;)
ua-cam.com/video/aTWeg2wTkmk/v-deo.html
That sounds incredible! It sounds like you've had quite the adventure already! We are currently at the beginning of our circumnavigation of the globe. We haven't tried surfing but we loooove diving! Happy Sailing on Wombat II!
@@sailingtelaru Great to hear. Where are you setting off from, and where to next?
@@sailingtelaru I just watched your great video and left a message in the comments for you
Fantastic video - great job Alie, but you should know by now cruising is fixing you boat in beautiful places. Sorry I can’t manage patrion, I already have my own boat to fix and B.O.A.T stands for Break Out Another Thousand 😢
No worries!
Cool of Nico to gift you a fish, a little more prep and you two will do well.
where are you all from? good to see people sailing to surf
Vancouver Island (British Columbia)
Pleeeeeeease do a q&a
How surfing a sailing work together?
Do u need to anchor far from shore ? How is it with the swell and sleeping? Wow dingy + anchor is a great idea. So you anchor the dingy close but far enough away from the break and then just surf while u keep an eye on the dingy? Would you say travelling with boat you surf less than travelling and living in van? Are there surf spots where it’s actually easier to go with boat? Can u jump directly from the boat and paddle to the break?
Sorry for so many questions but u are living my dream. I will move on to a sailboat this summer.
Hey Fabio! It's a big dream to combine these things :). Happy to answer these questions as I remember having all the same thoughts, and it's so exiting to talk about.
1. You need to always be a sailor first, and a surfer second. Take care of your boat and your crew and surf when possible. Especially true of anchoring becuse you'll probably choose anchorages that most sailors wouldn't, to be close to waves. For overnight anchorages you need something safe. For just stopping by a wave for a surf, and then continuing on, as long as you have less then 70' of water , with any bottom type other then reef, you can probably safely anchor the boat if you can keep an eye on it while your surf , it just might be super rolly and uncomfortable to be on board.
2. So the ideal situation is to find waves that are near a good wave but has a nice protected anchorage within 2 miles or less. Then you can easily take a decent dinghy from your boat to the waves. Just watch for the biggest set wave, anchor a safe distance back from there witb your dinghy and jump in! (But be awAre if the swell is building or tide is changing quickly).
3. You definitely will surf less travelling by boat then with a van. It's much harder to line up waves, weather, safe anchorages, not to mention boats have so much more maintenance that can force you to stay somewhere and wait for parts or whatever solution. Van for sure the way to go to ensure maximum wave time. BUT, boat accesss only waves with nobody else in sight is what you are able to achieve in this lifestyle, and when those days do come together, van life doesn't hold a candle to boatlife. You jsut need to be dedicated and sometimes patient.
4. It's way easier to access surf from a boat in my opinion if you have a good dinghy (10-12' with a 15-20 hp engine). Jumping directly from the sailboat to the wave happens sometimes too... the true dream, but usually it's dinghy access for me so that the big boat can stay in its comfortable anchorage and I can check a few different waves.
My main advice would be this;
A. Consider a catamaran if you can afford one. More space for surfboards and big dinghy, much more stable at anchor (our next boat will be a cat)
B. Region in super key. Generally areas with reef breaks like South Pacific, indo etc are best for lining up waves and anchorages.
C. If you don't know how to sail and maintain a boat yet, don't be afraid, but do expect a long and expensive learning curve. Even if you do all of the boat work yourself, it's still very expensive to maintain a boat. Everything breaks.. always. Have patience and you'll get some of the best surf of your life but priority #1 is to keep water out of your hull and the mast upright.
Good luck with your dream
Oh and one other thing, consider that most safe sailing seasons don't tend to coincide with swell seasons in many places. For example summer in Mexico pumps, but you will be dodging hurricanes haha
@@BreakingWavesSailing Thank you so much for your extensive Answer! I never thought of a catamaran because i generally like monohulls more but your points really make sense. Definitely will get a dinghy with 15 hp - something i used to find so cool as a kid (becuase we only had 2.3hp haha). Priority #1 is to keep water out of your hull and the mast upright. hahaha amazing!
Wish you good waves!
Beautiful footage...but no go pee..in the boat..sounds complicated...well enjoy ur travels 🏝️🏝️
Looks like Alie is catching plenty of waves on that plank. Maybe time to move onto something shorter that your trim frame can turn. Carve some turns, baby!
I agreeeeee! I left my 7’2” at home but trying to figure out how to get it down here
Doggo watching you flip over decomp turtle: "You understand me!"
Hahaha
ask for a guy named nacho and he will help you with anything, i travel down to that place at least twice a year people are the most down to earth soul people (the locals)
This may not be very vert helpful, because I can't remember their names, there are two other cruiser families in the Sea of Cortez now. I think one is Sailing SV Delos.
Yes there's many! We met Brian and Kazaa last fall at the boat show - so much fun :)
Hi, ? So is Bruce left on the boat when u surf, loved the guitar music.
Yep he just had a snooze :)
Bruce better get use to using the mat if he's going to be a true Bluewater boat dog.
Bruce is going to be retired from long ocean passages - he's staying with grandma and pa for a year for our next big adventure
We are currently trying to train our dog to use the turf we brought on board since we just started our sail around the world on our sailboat. It's definitely essential for a true Bluewater sailing dog!!
magnificent. sail to oz and leave yr boards at home cause you can borrow mine.
We will need them for the South Pacific!
Any type of RV, Boat, or mobile dwelling,.. there are ALWAYS things that are broken.
Are you Canadian as you say YAAAR a lot?
❤❤❤
Para diesel y cervezas….🤗
Hey - the other cruising couples I follow have gear breaks and failures too! It's just a part of the picture! Take it all in…
It's definitely part of sailing! You have to learn to be a great mechanic, engineer, weather forecaster, cook, and on and on and on! We learn something new everyday. And we love it!
Fun
How has your Starlink setup been working out? Does it take long to download grib files? Thinking of trying Starlink instead of Iridium...
Nice episode, thanks!
Hey Brian, Starlink works great! If using it for weather at sea we just use windy app not grib files. It's as fast and as reliable as your fiber internet at home.. although not sure how far offshore you can currently use it (seems to change (for the better) all of time).
This is a great question! We have considered Starlink as well. Since we are circumnavigating we have wondered if it will work well for us off shore as we sail.
👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
💪👏🤙
A lot of these waves you surf are longboard waves, did you bring any?
Yah we didn't have any big winter swells along baja unfortunately (off for mid to late November) - I have my long board (you can see a few shots of it in this video, it's the yellow board), but I'm jsut super keen to ride my short board at the moment
Which of you is the Bill Bryson fan? I have read most of this books. Isn't he the best?
Definitely a Ben read (second time actually) - he's great!
nice episode as usual. how long does Bruce stay without peeing ?
😃👍👍👍❤
♥️♥️🥰🥰
Quick question. Does UA-cam make the clickbait pic or do you guys make it. A lot of channels have clickbait, just curious.
We'll click bait is when a title and thumbnail doesn't accurately represent what's in the video... so dotn agree this is click bait but yes we do select the thumbnail
@@BreakingWavesSailing you select very well. heh. also. the water looks great
@@BreakingWavesSailing I guess that pic does represent your video, just a little wilder, not complaining at all,
Awesome, surfing not the no food or fuel. Have to start carrying a little cash on board.
Thanks John!
so how did they paid without money....
People on the street spot me money and I pay pal transfered it back to them. It’s at 6:01
Live only from surfing what a stupid life.
Stop referring to Ben as your partner. Boyfriend. Captain. Lover. Best bud. Friend. Whatever is better than partner.
Why do you need to expose these places and btw its San Juanico not san Juanica
We don't expose anything that's not already easily found on the internet
Thank God the internet and Social Media allows folks to exist unencumbered with the responsibilities of family, adulthood, or citizenship. Gone are the days of slaving away at an oppressive job manufacturing or building things, helping or teaching people, serving your country, or otherwise contributing to and growing the economy. I'm sure that when your exciting days traveling are over due to lack of funds, injury or disease, or just aging out, that us working stiffs back here in the States will be happy to contribute our hard-earned tax money to your repatriation and future retirement needs.
1. We are Canadian
2. I (Ben) work full time (agreed thanks to the internet) and employ 30 people. We build things - trust me
3. Lick my salty nutsack
Your channeel looks good but i can't support people that would keep their dog on a boat without peeing for that long.
Yah we hear ya! We really hoped he would take to peeing on the boat but he just never did. Bruce is retired from passage making now, and will be spending next year with Ben's parents after a summer of land life back in BC.
The music is really annoying.Having to skip through the video to avoid it.
Should I lie to you ?
You're a great couple and enjoyable to watch. Just a thought, spend a minute or two on each scene. Let us immerse ourselves in your surfing or the scenery. I'm trying not to be critical, as what you've produced is beautiful, but I'd like to feel like I'm there. Again, you guys are great.
Great idea!
Time for Alie to dump the dead weight and start her own channel!! She is an awesome social media personality and deserves every penny she makes!!
You want me to dump Bruce?
